Chapter 66 - Virtual Combat Chamber

After the new training plan was finalized, the teachers would first take everyone through a summary of this trip to the Star Dou Forest. Then, based on the shortcomings displayed during the trip, they would immediately begin an intensive training camp.

During the training period there would be no holidays. Only when the first stage of the training camp ended would everyone be given a short break.

After saying this, Flender disappeared. When Ausin arrived at the soul tool production area according to his own schedule, he realized Flender hadn't been joking — all the teachers had already vanished.

Ausin turned his head slightly and more or less understood why things were this way.

First, the Grandmaster probably wanted to quickly understand soul tools so that he wouldn't make any mistakes when creating the training plan.

Second, after witnessing the convenience of soul tools, the Grandmaster clearly wanted to go big — using soul tools to build a training base for the students.

No longer restricting training to the simple things from Ausin's past-life memories, like weighted running between Shrek Academy and Soto City and sparring on the playground.

The corners of his lips curled up slightly. Ausin sent the idle Cohen, who had been wandering around the village, out on an assignment.

Thirty kilometers east of the village where Shrek Academy was located lay continuous mountain ranges. Ausin believed that was likely the place the teachers had chosen as the training site, so he told Cohen to scout ahead.

After two days of scouting, Cohen successfully discovered the teachers' location.

Watching the video Cohen brought back, the corners of Ausin's mouth twitched. What… had he just seen?

A net wall, pits, a single-log bridge, obstacles, and a crawling-net course forming what looked like a one-kilometer-long obstacle track;

And also an area under construction that looked like some sort of soul-tool mechanism corridor. Ausin suspected it was an upgraded version of the Shaolin Wooden Men Alley.

At this moment, Ausin seriously suspected whether he had unknowingly given Flender and the others some strange data.

After thinking about it for a long time, Ausin suddenly realized he had fallen into the trap of preconceived assumptions.

Although that obstacle course truly mirrored the military training courses from Ausin's previous life, there was no rule saying the Douluo Continent couldn't have something similar.Maybe the armies of the Douluo Continent trained this way too.

These things were definitely something the Grandmaster or Flender had seen somewhere in the past, and were now being recreated using soul tools for the upcoming training camp.

As for that wooden-man-alley-like thing, the Grandmaster had probably seen something similar in Spirit Hall and was now recreating it using the power of soul tools.

"Perhaps I should let Tang San go over and help?"This thought — essentially creating trouble for himself — emerged in Ausin's mind.

"Hmm, not impossible. If we're going to train, we might as well do it thoroughly.

These next few days, let Cohen stay there longer.Once it's confirmed that the place really is a mechanism corridor, I'll let Tang San provide some suggestions.Tang San has been awfully quiet these days anyway."

Having made up his mind, Ausin returned to his own work.Today was the fourth day since they returned from the Star Dou Forest; there were still seven days before the training camp started.

"Let's hope there's enough time." Ausin quietly encouraged himself.

Knowing that the training camp would begin in ten days, Ausin drafted himself an extremely ambitious schedule — one that included the creation of three soul tools. Thus his prayer: "Hope there's enough time."

The first item was to create a special translation soul tool for Cohen, allowing Cohen's cries to be directly translated into human speech.Ausin had already completed this on the very first day after returning from break.

Because in the Star Dou Forest, Ausin noticed that although Cohen could write, communication with others was still inconvenient, and countless times Ausin himself had to act as translator.

If a crisis occurred, even that small translation delay could become fatal.

Although it was called a translation soul tool, in essence it functioned as an intelligent program — belonging to the category of matrix-type soul tools.

The intelligent program used in Ausin's current detection soul tool — which integrates the results of various detection tools and analyzes them to produce a conclusion — was also a type of matrix soul tool.

The difference was that this translation tool could accurately convert Cohen's cries into spoken language only after enough preliminary data of Cohen's cries and intended meanings had been collected, analyzed, and compared.

This translation soul tool had already been installed on Cohen's collar.Cohen simply needed to input the initial data himself for it to function properly.

The second item was the one Ausin was currently working on.

Ausin wanted to create a soul tool that would allow him to achieve spiritual force externalization. Normally, a soul master needed to reach level 50 to achieve that.

However, Ausin now wished to attempt forging soul-refined metal — and forging soul-refined metal required a soul master to use externally released spiritual force during hammering.

Through the omniscient library's scan, Ausin knew his total spiritual force, thanks to his persistent meditation on the Five Beasts Diagram from the Five-Beast Exercise, had already reached the minimum required to achieve spiritual force externalization.

The reason he still couldn't achieve externalization was because the "pathway" for the spiritual force to leave the body could only be opened after obtaining a ten-thousand-year soul ring.

The spiritual-force-externalization soul tool being created now was meant to allow Ausin to possess this "pathway" in advance, while also reducing the consumption rate of spiritual force once externalized.

The third soul tool was called the "Real Combat Simulation Chamber," or "Virtual Combat Chamber" — either name worked.

Whether this soul tool could be completed depended entirely on whether Ausin successfully forged soul-refined metal.

The Virtual Combat Chamber allowed its user to enter a virtual combat space that completely replicated real-world battle.

Within this space, the user could freely set whatever terrain and battlefield environment they wanted,

And could also choose the opponent's strength, numbers, and specialties.

In short, through all kinds of simulated battles, the user could enhance their combat experience.Using the Virtual Combat Chamber consumed soul power and spiritual force, but there was no need to worry about injuries.

There were three modes for opponents in the Virtual Combat Chamber:

First, opponents simulated by the chamber itself based on the user's parameters.

Second, real people. To explain simply:

If Ausin used the chamber, the chamber would record and collect Ausin's combat data,

Then generate a full-simulation model identical to Ausin in combat power and combat style.

With this fully authentic simulation model, others in Shrek Academy could fight the model instead of fighting the real Ausin.

Of course, if Ausin wished, he could fight himself too.

Third mode, called linked mode. The Virtual Combat Chamber was not limited to one person — multiple users could log in simultaneously.

In this mode, users could fight each other, or team up to fight opponents from the chamber's opponent database.

The Virtual Combat Chamber could be seen as reproducing the simulated-combat function of Ausin and Oscar's third martial soul fusion skill, Illusion Space, Sichuan Pepper Beef Mini Sausage, through soul-tool technology.

With this, the quantity and frequency requirements of that fusion-skill product could be massively reduced, avoiding the limitations of the fusion skill.

In truth, the main reason Ausin conceived this soul tool was for Oscar.

After all, Ausin had the omniscient library — anything the Virtual Combat Chamber could do, the library could do as well.Ausin did not lack combat experience.

But Oscar did.

For safety reasons, Oscar could not use soul tools during combat in the Great Spirit Arena — the best place to accumulate combat experience.

His experience with soul-tool combat came entirely from sparring with teammates in daily life — which was obviously insufficient.

Ausin had noticed during their Star Dou Forest trip that Oscar had significant issues reacting to and handling unexpected situations.

Knowing that the second stage of the Grandmaster's training involved battling in the Great Spirit Arena to strengthen combat experience, Ausin made up his mind to create this "Virtual Combat Chamber."

Now that the functions and the motivation for creating the Virtual Combat Chamber had been explained, it was time to discuss the key points surrounding its creation.
