Chapter 32 - Chapter 32: Shifter, Psychic, Blood-Forged Oh My!  Part 1

Lux

With a wince, I could only shake my head. "This will at least give us something to talk about while we eat dinner. Let's head over before they accuse me of hogging you or something equally absurd." Nyx nodded but her gaze had dropped to the floor. She put her phone on the charger, grabbed her tablet, and proceeded past me without a word. With a sigh, I closed her bedroom doors and followed after her. She didn't stop, continuing straight into the hallway outside her suite. I closed all the doors as I passed the thresholds. I tilted my head in indication and led her to where our brothers waited.

She fiddled with the protection charm made for her by Korran as we walked. As she observed every room and hallway we passed, I observed her in turn. She wasn't this perceptive before. I would almost bet she will be able to find her way back to her room if not this time, then next time. I was taking her the long way just to spend more time with her one-on-one, yet somehow she either remembered the way or sensed my intention. In the blink of an eye, she gave me a look before turning down a different corridor that would take her to the Tharym room immediately.

Curious whether she'd actually find the room, I followed behind her. She glances over her shoulder only once before sprinting away from me. "Oh no, you shouldn't have done that, little wolf." My instincts were triggered, and I playfully ran after her. She must have sensed me coming, because she picked up her pace—forcing me to match it.

When I tried to herd her away from her intended path, she proved just how well she had regained body control. She dodged, dipped, and even slid past my blocks. Just when I reached for her, she threw her jacket as a diversion rolling into the Tharym room, panting.

I walked in right behind her with a fierce grin. "That workout was very good for where you are in your recovery. To emphasize how well you did—even without conscious essence use—you made me work to keep up. Brothers, our sister has come back as possibly a savant." I haven't been this excited since her birth.

Keir and Aspen eyed us with a mix of amusement and curiosity. "What exactly happened that would have Nyx running in here? Did you make her go through the obstacle course before she was allowed to eat?" Keir joked after taking a sip of his drink. As she walked off her cool-down, she examined the room in silence.

Ah, she was still upset. Scratching the side of my face, I closed the doors, made myself a drink, then joined my brothers at the table. On this side of the carpeted room, we would be having dinner at a low table with some floor cushions for comfort. The cushions could be arranged for sitting up or lying down. Getting myself situated with a cushion, I ignored the concerned glances and mental inquiries from Aspen and Keir.

After another awkward pause, Nyx finished surveying the room and came to sit in the space between Aspen and Keir, which puts her across from me. "I got too hungry to keep going the long way Lux was taking us, so I decided to follow my gut. I accidentally triggered Lux into chasing me, which ended with me parkour-ing my way here. I am feeling very annoyed right now, so the exercise helped clear my head a bit. That is why I ended up running into the room. Now, which container here is mine, and can I get a coke with rum?" Nyx's flat tone conveyed her annoyance quite clearly. Aspen and Keir looked at her, then turned their heads to look at me with similar questioning expressions.

-What did you do? Why is she upset?!- They both screamed this question in my mind at the same time. While I rubbed my pounding temples, Aspen got up to make her drink, and Keir handed her the boxes containing her portions. "You two can stop glaring at him. I'm upset with all of you, including our parents. Did you two think I knew what races everyone was as well, or were you just waiting for me to figure it out?" The dryness of her statement and question had them staring at her with devastated expressions.

"So you didn't realize the oversight either, huh." She made the observation as she sipped her drink, a small smile forming on her lips. "I can forgive. I didn't think it was intentional despite how I currently feel. So, brothers, should I guess or will you just tell me? You know what, you can just go down the line starting with Korran." She took a bite of a chicken wing after finishing her request for information.

She wasn't this confident and mature before her rebirth. She doesn't challenge my authority, but she's no longer the submissive girl she was. The results she will gain from Keir's training will be intriguing to observe. Maybe she won't be the weakest member of the pack who even the children have to indulge and protect. If she succeeds in ascending, that will be perfect.

Coughing, Aspen drains his glass before standing up to make himself another. "Yes, moonbeam, this was an oversight on our part." Returning, he takes a deep breath, arranges his thoughts before smiling gently. "Well first as a reminder because I believe Lux did mention your race when you were in the clinic; you, Nyxara Grey Ajei, are a witch like our Nimra."

"You never shared what your specialty was, so we can't share that, but you will likely rediscover it or find a new specialty during your essence studies and physical training."

Nyx looked intrigued but not shocked this time. I hope she won't hide her specialty from us when she discovers her path. I know everyone is looking forward to properly supporting her. Nimra and I have already chosen an academic tutor for her. I hope we made the right decision choosing her to be Nyx's tutor. Their relationship previously ended on a sore note after all.

"So what are Korran and Azrail? You just told me Nimra is a witch. What is her speciality?" She hummed with pleasure as she ate, making us all puff up with pride that our youngest was finally enjoying something she needed.

"Korran and I are both Blood-forged. Blood-forged are basically natural fighters, artifact and weapon smiths. We have enhanced physical traits that make it easy for us to pick up fighting techniques. Some Blood-forged bloodlines include abilities to create artifacts and weapons. While Korran's bloodline does carry this aspect and he did inherit the ability, I did not. Lux and Aspen in their own ways have aspects of this ability so there is a possibility you will discover you too can create artifacts." Keir's explanation had Nyx typing on her tablet while absently drinking her soup.

"As mentioned, Nimra is a witch. You asked what her speciality was. She is a Glyph witch. That is how she earned her title as The Glyph Witch. Her glyphs are renowned across regions." Keir continues, his tone serious—very unlike his typical sunny self. Atone I usually only hear when he's training soldiers or representing the family at formal functions.

"I had previously looked up Nimra, but I didn't realize that glyphs were her witch specialty. Our Nimra is truly an icon and role model." Nyx's enthusiasm for our mom filled me with pride and amusement at how proud she was of our mom's accomplishments.

My feelings, however, did not stop my mind from questioning if my little wolf's changes are truly just a case of amnesia. Her changes are subtle, but there are many. When Uncle Cor returns, we will discuss our suspicions with him and Aspen. Uncle Cor's perspective will be the deciding factor on how we will handle things.

"So, if Korran and Keir are blood-forged, Nimra and I are witches, and Lux is a shifter… Lux, you haven't mentioned what type of shifter you were." She has completed her soup and wings by this point and is starting on her chicken teriyaki. "I'm a rare type of wolf shifter. I'm called an Ashitaka, also known as a horned wolf. I'll show you my shifted form another time." I explained calmly, eating my own rice and rare steak bowl.

"I look forward to seeing your other self, Lux." Her smile directed at me brought me relief I had not been expecting. I now felt truly forgiven. "So that leaves Aspen and Azrail." Her focus turns on my brother, and he looks a bit nervous. "Well, I'm a clairsentient psychic, and Azrail is a demon."
