Chapter 29 - Heat Ray

The immense kinetic energy and extreme heat caused excruciating pain, preventing the two ninjas from even emitting full screams. Only inhuman, short, and desperate wails escaped their throats, and their bodies were thrown backward as if struck by a giant hammer, completely losing their combat ability, twitching in agony on the ground.

Hawk's gaze did not linger!

His reddish-gold eyes, like solid, burning blades, swept coldly and swiftly backward, following the falling figures of the ninjas!

Wherever the beams touched, even the hard rebar-reinforced concrete ground let out a groan of pain.

"Sizzle-sputter!" Two charred furrows, several inches deep and emitting thick white smoke, were instantly plowed. The concrete at the edges of the furrows was instantly melted, crystallized, and vitrified, shimmering with a dark red glow, like the scars of hell branded upon the ground.

The air was filled with the pungent smell of ozone and burning rock.

This destructive sweep was like an invisible, scorching barrier, forcing the pursuing ninjas back!

The scorching beams grazed their feet, and the searing heat and blast forced them to roll and dodge, their offensive instantly collapsing, their eyes filled with terror and confusion at the unknown, horrifying power.

The four turtles, who had been carried along by Hawk, had their jaws practically on the floor.

"My God! That... that was... a high-energy laser weapon? Mounted in his eyes?" Donatello gasped in disbelief, his voice rising and changing pitch from shock. "But this energy density... this instantaneous vaporization effect... it exceeds my understanding of energy weapons!"

Leonardo, as the leader, suppressed the shock within him, his eyes fixed on the residual light trails from Hawk's eyes and the two deep grooves on the ground, his voice low and solemn: "Unbelievable... he's practically a walking particle cannon! Precise, deadly..."

The hot-tempered Raphael was also uncharacteristically stunned for half a second, his eyes under his helmet wide as saucers.

He let out a curse: "Holy Mother of...!"

He looked at the terrifying wounds on the shoulders of the fallen, wailing ninjas and the charred weapon remnants, then at the grooves on the ground, and spat viciously:

"Damn it! He's practically a living incinerator!"

Michelangelo's mouth formed a wide "O," and he even forgot to swing his nunchaku.

"Brother Hawk, do your eyes have a stellar core in them?!"

He exaggeratedly gestured in front of his eyes, his shock mixed with childish excitement.

"Whoosh! Whoosh! Two red lights, bang! Splat! Ninjas down, ground exploding! Awesome! That's definitely the 'hottest' 'death stare' I've ever seen!"

Emily, hiding, gasped at this scene, instinctively covering her mouth.

"Oh... my God..." Her voice trembled. "Hawk... what... what exactly is he?!"

She felt her worldview being refreshed again.

April, a seasoned reporter, also couldn't hide her shock, but she quickly regained her professional composure.

While using her camera to capture visual evidence, she took out a voice recorder and rapidly dictated everything she saw:

"The renowned Hawk Lane is actually a superhuman! He displayed super high-energy heat ray abilities! The estimated temperature is extremely high, capable of instantly melting alloy armor and weapons, and causing deep damage to the ground! The power is quite astonishing! The attackers were completely stunned!"

Her voice carried an unbelievable certainty, as well as a strong wariness of the unknown power.

At this moment, the unsettling reddish-gold light in Hawk's eyes slowly receded, leaving only faint embers on his retina.

He expressionlessly scanned the retreating, shaken ninjas in front of him, and the two charred grooves on the ground still emitting smoke. That earth-shattering strike seemed as insignificant to him as blinking an eye.

The battlefield fell into an eerie silence, broken only by the faint moans of the fallen, incapacitated ninjas and the subtle crackling of slag cooling in the ground grooves.

Seeing the astonished people and turtles, Hawk clapped his hands in exasperation: "What are you staring at? Let's go!"

It was then that everyone reacted, quickly fleeing through the passage.

Hawk watched them run off, then turned back to glance at the smoke-filled, almost ruined base. A red light flashed in his eyes, and two heat rays precisely severed a massive pipe supporting the tunnel entrance!

"Rumble!" The pipe, along with a large section of rubble, crashed down, completely blocking the pursuit route.

Angry roars from the mutants and the sound of ninjas digging came from behind.

Hawk used the complex terrain, occasionally melting critical points with his heat rays to create obstacles, shaking off the annoying flies.

The four giant turtles—Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello—covered in wounds and grime, vigilantly scanned the dark riverbank.

April sat on the cold concrete ledge, her chest heaving violently, her gasps clear in the silence, her gaze fixed on Hawk.

Hawk's naked upper body, like an ancient Greek sculpture in the hazy moonlight, had clearly defined muscles, and steam rose in wisps from him, as if he contained a furnace.

Beside her, Emily, though covered in dust and still shaken, looked at Hawk with undisguised admiration and a certain spark.

He clearly felt the two gazes focused on him, different in nature yet equally fervent.

Hawk casually flicked his wrist, as if he had merely done a warm-up, and broke the silence with a teasing remark:

"Tickets to the 'appreciation show' are free, ladies, but the venue... is a bit low-brow."

He surveyed the damp, gloomy surroundings, and shrugged.

"I must say, Mr. Hawk, you're much more captivating in person than in magazines and on television." April pursed her lips, her gaze unable to leave Hawk's body, carefully choosing her words.

Hawk took a large, slightly worn hoodie that Michelangelo had inexplicably found and handed to him, quickly pulling it on, covering his striking physique.

As he dressed, he said, "Captivating? Am I to understand that I'm not as handsome as I appear on TV or in magazines?"
