"Oh God… God's grace… thank You, thank You… Oh my heart… my grandson… Oh, Viona, you… you…" she cried, her voice breaking as she clutched her chest and wept.
My eyes stung with the tears I was holding back. I couldn't let this drag on, or we would end up crying all day.
I grabbed my mother's arms and helped her up, squeezing gently. "Mom, come on. Don't be like this. You're scaring him. Get up."
"Mommy…" Roey whimpered, hands clasped, fidgeting. He stepped closer hesitantly, his eyes looked confused.
"Oh dear… Grandma startled you, didn't I? Forgive me. How foolish of me." My mother straightened herself quickly and wiped her tears.
Once I was sure she was steady, I let go and returned to Roey.
"Roey, greet her. She's your grandma. Yes, she's my mother." I finally said it, releasing a breath I couldn't name. Relief, maybe. Or not. Should my heart really race just from introducing my children to my own parents?
