When Xu Mu clearly saw the person in the distance, he frowned.
She was wearing a mask and a hat, but those eyes—there was no mistake—it was Meng Wanyue.
Xu Mu found it odd. Why would Meng Wanyue come here? Did she have another mission?
Thinking that, he extended his Perception to check what Ye Tong was doing inside the house.
Then his gaze suddenly hardened. Besides Ye Tong, there was another man inside.
That man was currently in the villa, fiddling with the router's wiring.
Xu Mu immediately pressed the accelerator, stopping in front of the villa. He rolled down his window and called to the figure standing by the door.
"Wanyue, what's going on?"
"President Xu, you're back?"
Meng Wanyue quickly walked over and whispered, "The person inside isn't who he claims to be."
"I'll park the car first."
Xu Mu drove into the underground garage, then came straight out on foot.
Meng Wanyue was waiting nearby and said quietly, "My digital telescope can record video. I saw someone sneaking in earlier—he seemed to be tampering with something."
"Come with me."
After thinking for a moment, Xu Mu led her into the villa.
As soon as they opened the door, Ye Tong—sitting on the sofa—stood up.
"You're back? Oh, Wanyue's here too?"
"Yeah," Xu Mu replied casually. "We just had a meeting together. I realized I've never invited her over, and since she lives nearby, I thought we could come back together."
While talking, he glanced toward a corner.
A man in work clothes was connecting a device to the optical modem.
"What's this about?" Xu Mu asked.
"The internet just went down," Ye Tong explained. "I was about to call for service, but happened to meet the technician at the gate."
Xu Mu nodded lightly.
"All done, your network's restored."
The young man smiled, standing up. "If there's nothing else, I'll be going."
"Thanks," Ye Tong said with a polite smile.
"You're welcome."
He left, and Ye Tong saw him to the door before closing it.
"Have you eaten?" she asked.
"Not yet. Let's wait a bit," Xu Mu replied while taking out his phone and sending her a message.
Ye Tong glanced at it, her expression shifting slightly before she smiled and said,
"Oh, by the way, the bedroom light's broken—can you take a look?"
"Sure. Wanyue, give me a hand."
Meng Wanyue nodded and followed Xu Mu upstairs to the master bedroom.
Once all three were inside, Meng Wanyue raised a finger to her lips for silence.
She went to the router, pulled out a small device, and plugged it in. Then she connected her phone to it.
After checking the data, she finally exhaled.
"It's clean here."
"What's going on?" Ye Tong grabbed Xu Mu's arm.
"Wanyue, you explain," Xu Mu said.
"Sister Ye, this is the footage I recorded half an hour ago," Meng Wanyue said, opening a video on her phone.
"That's our courtyard! Where'd you get this?"
"Um, I…"
"I asked her to record it," Xu Mu interjected smoothly. "Things have been tense lately, so I wanted another angle of security. Her place has a view of our yard."
"Ah, I see."
Ye Tong pointed at the screen.
"Wait—someone's in our courtyard?"
"Exactly. Look at the timestamp."
Meng Wanyue turned to Xu Mu.
"President Xu, you've got security cameras outside, right?"
"Yeah."
Xu Mu opened his laptop and pulled up the courtyard feed.
Ye Tong and Meng Wanyue leaned over to look—no one appeared.
But on closer inspection, several minutes of footage were missing.
An ordinary person would never notice.
"See? The network outage was his doing. His goal was to access the house," Meng Wanyue said. "His equipment disrupted your internet and tapped into your cameras."
"What?" Ye Tong's face went pale.
"Look here—he can now remotely control your indoor and outdoor cameras," Meng Wanyue explained. "He can even delete footage at will."
Ye Tong froze, then her eyes lit up with realization—she remembered what she'd heard at the Xu family estate.
"Xu Mu… could this be about the medicine formula?"
"Highly likely."
Xu Mu smiled faintly.
In truth, he already had a suspect—Lin Yan.
To outsiders, Xu Mu still looked like a useless playboy. If someone really hacked into his home for the formula, it could only be someone who knew its value—and Lin Yan fit that bill perfectly.
As for that so-called son-in-law, he despised Xu Mu too, but his "three-year term" wasn't up yet; he couldn't even handle his own wife's affairs, let alone pick a fight with Xu Mu.
No, this had Lin Yan written all over it.
"Wanyue, since you're so skilled, can you handle this?" Ye Tong asked.
"Of course. I can wipe their access right now."
Meng Wanyue nodded.
"Wait! Don't touch it yet."
Xu Mu suddenly raised his hand to stop her.
"Why not?" Ye Tong asked.
Xu Mu smiled.
"Because I've got a message I'd like to send to whoever's watching through those cameras."
He thought of the recording he had—the conversation between Feng Yue and Qian Gang.
If Lin Yan were to discover that recording himself, it would trigger a perfect dog-eat-dog scenario.
Lin Yan was sharp. If Xu Mu handed the audio over personally, he'd suspect a setup.
But if he overheard it through the hacked cameras, he'd believe it.
Especially since the recording was genuine—he'd verify it easily.
Let Lin Yan and Feng Yue tear each other apart.
"Alright. Call me if you need help," Meng Wanyue said.
"Wanyue, what exactly do you do? You seem to know so much," Ye Tong asked, looping her arm through hers.
Meng Wanyue looked embarrassed—she couldn't very well say she was an assassin.
Espionage, wiretapping, infiltration—those were her real skills. Everything else, she barely knew.
"Wanyue used to be a hacker," Xu Mu said with a smile.
"What? That's amazing!" Ye Tong exclaimed, gratitude filling her face."Good thing you were here—otherwise our whole house would've been compromised."
Xu Mu nodded in agreement.
"Sister Ye, it's the least I could do," Meng Wanyue said shyly, scratching her head.
Elsewhere.
Lin Yan lay sprawled on a hotel bed, staring at his phone.
On-screen was a live feed of Xu Mu's villa living room.
After Meng Wanyue left, Xu Mu sat on the sofa while Ye Tong busied herself in the kitchen.
"Let's see how long you can keep that perfect image, kid," Lin Yan muttered with a smirk. "This is what you get for crossing me."
Just then, his phone rang. He picked up immediately.
"Boss, Feng Yue and Qian Gang haven't come back yet. No idea what they're up to," said the voice on the other end.
"Those two? …Could they have started their move already?" Lin Yan frowned. "Keep tailing them."
