Xu Mu sat in his office, thinking about when to go home and let Lin Yan hear Feng Yue's recording. He could only play it once—if he looped it under the camera, only an idiot would believe it. So timing was everything.
Right now, having the Xu family leak "about to launch" news was meant to force Lin Yan and Feng Yue to speed up.
"No—sitting around won't do. I need to move."
Xu Mu stepped out of the office.
On an ordinary day he'd assign surveillance to Wang Biao, but Lin Yan wasn't a normal opponent; sending Wang Biao might spook him. At the moment, Xu Mu was hidden in the dark—that advantage had to be used well.
"Wanyue."
Xu Mu called to Meng Wanyue outside.
"President Xu, what is it?"
She walked over, face unreadable.
"Judging from your look, you don't want to be stuck in an office either, do you?"
He leaned close and spoke by her ear. Feeling his breath, Meng Wanyue's cheeks tinged red; even she didn't know why her heart sped up whenever he came near.
[Favorability +3]
She was an assassin by trade—she preferred physical work to desk work.
"Come on, mission time. We're heading out."
For a personnel manager like Xu Mu, most tasks were optional anyway; his subordinates handled things and he just signed off.
Meng Wanyue nodded lightly and followed him downstairs.
"We'll take your car. Today's job is tailing, and mine stands out."
She led him to the surface lot and stopped in front of a Wuling Hongguang.
"You commute in this?"
Xu Mu was surprised. Her office attire and petite face looked wildly out of place next to the van.
"It's great—lots of space, rear-wheel drive, it can drift."
She got behind the wheel.
"Nice."
Xu Mu buckled into the passenger seat.
"First stop: Moonlight Bar. I'll send the address."
"Okay."
She started the engine and followed the navigation.
Xu Mu narrowed his eyes, planning the next steps. From what he knew, Feng Yue wanted to manufacture the slimming drug herself—but her formula was fake. The process and ratios she gave Lin Yan were even faker.
Lin Yan's Fate Level was high—no way he was a fool. He'd test it. When he learned it didn't work, the first person he'd confront would be Feng Yue.
All Xu Mu had to do was wait by Feng Yue. Once Lin Yan arrived to question her, that would be the perfect moment to let him "overhear" the recording.
They parked on the back street behind Moonlight Bar—quiet and rarely trafficked.
"President Xu, what are we doing here?" Meng Wanyue asked.
"See that little window up there? That's Feng Yue's room."
With his Divine Eye-like sensing, Xu Mu had already checked—Feng Yue wasn't inside.
"I still don't know what's going on," Meng Wanyue said softly.
"It's company confidential, technically. But I trust you, so I'll tell you—just don't tell anyone else."
Xu Mu smiled. He knew she was one of the Dragon King's people, unrelated to Feng Yue or Lin Yan, so she wouldn't pass it along.
Meng Wanyue was moved—despite knowing her background, he still trusted her.
[Favorability +10]
"Alright. I won't tell a soul. Even if the Dragon King asks, I won't answer."
Xu Mu nodded; with her personality, she'd keep that promise.
He gave her the broad strokes. To make previous events sound reasonable, he explained that when she'd been filming outside his villa, he'd suspected she might be working for another company.
Meng Wanyue nodded inwardly at last—business intrigue was troublesome.
"What do we do now, President Xu?"
"Ideally, I'd plant a bug in Feng Yue's room, but that tiny window makes it tricky."
The room was well sealed—aside from that small window, only a second-floor door from the bar led in. That door had security posted and heavy camera coverage—no way to slip in unnoticed.
"Does she have an internal camera in the room?" Meng Wanyue asked.
"No idea—probably not." Xu Mu shook his head.
"Leave it to me. I can install a bug. If there is a camera, I can hijack it like that Lin Yan did."
"Wanyue, seriously?" Xu Mu's eyes lit up. That would make things much easier.
"There's one condition—the room has to be empty."
"Don't worry—it is. And the street's clear too."
"Good. Give me three minutes."
She pulled out her phone and a device from the tool box, connecting the two.
"What's that?"
"A latest-gen U.S. military gadget we got on the black market. It pings nearby cameras."
Little dots flashed on the display.
"See? Only one camera on this street."
She drove out to the corner and stopped in the camera's blind spot. Then she took a screw from the car, rolled down the window, and whipped it upward—
Crack!
The camera lens shattered.
"Wanyue, you're fierce."
Xu Mu gave her a thumbs-up.

So she did like praise…
Face a bit flushed, she drove back and parked. She slipped into the rear seat, swapped into flat shoes, put on a mask and a baseball cap, and slung on a tool bag.
"President Xu, you're sure that room is empty?"
"Absolutely. Room's empty, corner's clear."
"Alright!"
The Wuling Hongguang rocked once—Meng Wanyue had already vaulted onto the roof. Xu Mu peeked out the window just in time to see her spring up, snag the second-floor AC bracket with one hand, and flow along it like a cat to the small window.
From her bag she took out tools, worked the latch, and in just thirty seconds the window clicked open.
