Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Syrio Joins the Game, New Talent: Insight

The silver-haired, purple-eyed masked swordsman, Viserys Targaryen, stood beside the Moon Pool, light and handsome, like a tall, frozen statue.

Viserys had blood on his chest and held the slender sword, Flashsilver. At this moment, he seemed to be the center of this world, gazed upon by countless eyes.

The fountain in the Moon Pool gurgled, and the crowd stirred.

An assassin's sword, a blood-stained sword.

Quicksword Bero's body lay on the ground, a breathless loser.

It was said that true Water Dancers could spar and fight on the water's surface without causing a single ripple.

Viserys thought this was nonsense, as people couldn't escape the effects of gravity unless Water Dancers possessed water magic.

However, from a visual standpoint, Water Dancers were indeed flamboyant and dangerous.

The few gamblers who had become rich because of Viserys beamed with joy, while more swordsmen and onlookers, though somewhat disappointed by their gambling losses, still cheered his name.

After all, for such a brilliant and peerless Assassin's Dance, those riches could be considered the price of admission.

The caretakers and law enforcement officers of the Moon Pool were somewhat surprised, as Quicksword Bero's skill was not weak; it seemed this newcomer was an even more formidable character.

"Silver Swordsman!"

"Silver Swordsman!" Many people called Viserys by his name.

"Violet Swordsman."

"Violet Swordsman."

Some onlookers called him the Violet Swordsman, as Viserys had purple eyes.

More dangerous and more lethal than Quicksword, the Silver Swordsman.

Viserys endured the pain in his body; the strong thrust had cut his skin and flesh, but it hadn't gone too deep. If it had been a penetrating wound, it would have been troublesome.

The advancement of his profession and the tempering between life and death greatly benefited Viserys.

High risk, but also high reward.

"[Profession obtained: Fate Defier (Initiate)]"

"[Basic attribute increase: Spirit +0.2]"

Viserys felt the changes in his body; the Fate Defier profession solely enhanced his Spirit attribute.

The Spirit attribute was difficult to improve, even more so than physical attributes.

Enhanced Spirit manifested as nourishing the mind, and Viserys's mental strength, observational skills, reaction speed, and memory all improved.

A stronger Spirit attribute might also mean a more resilient soul, and it would be suitable for future magical initiation.

After all, the world of Ice and Fire contained psychic attacks, forced intrusions into the brain, and skinchangers were one such type.

"[Profession obtained: Water Dancer (Mastery)]"

"[Basic attribute increase: Strength +0.1, Toughness +0.1, Speed +0.2]"

As a Master Water Dancer, Viserys now had some self-preservation abilities in Braavos.

The Water Dancer profession emphasized speed, so the speed attribute had the highest increase, but it also came with other attributes.

The Water Dancer profession leveled up relatively quickly; the techniques relied on talent, training, and Viserys's financial investment.

However, above Mastery, there were at least two more ranks.

Initiate, Mastery, Grandmaster, Legendary.

"[Fate Defier Viserys Targaryen has completed his first kill, activating the profession [Water Dancer]. The fate axis fluctuates, granting a random talent.]"

Viserys took a deep breath. Buy two get one free; this time, not only did he activate a profession, but he also received an extra talent.

The talent card finally changed to a combat type, depicting a flamboyant swordsman dancing gracefully with a rapier on the water, performing a magnificent Water Dance.

"[Talent: Insight. Lies are endless, deceptions are endless, fools are blinded. Eyes for sight, ears for hearing, lips for taste, nose for smell, skin for touch. Deep thought leads to insight.]"

Viserys gratefully accepted his third talent skill.

Activating Insight was equivalent to enhancing his premonition and organ perception, allowing him to see through deceptions in combat.

Sharp eyes and ears, keen five senses.

Although the Insight talent didn't increase his various attributes, it was extremely beneficial for Viserys's duels and fights, allowing him to better pinpoint enemy weaknesses and movements.

If his original destiny was a single line, now, with the courtyard of the Red House as the origin, Viserys had created another line of reversal.

The more destinies Viserys reversed, the more talents he would draw.

Even if only lifestyle talents were randomly assigned, he would still make a fortune.

Viserys clutched the bleeding wound on his chest, which burned. His hands were also stained with blood.

His black cat, Balerion, had been hissing nearby but hadn't come forward to help; this was Viserys's personal battle.

To be fair, Viserys and Bero had no dispute.

But in this bloody era, to get ahead, one always needed to step on others' heads.

In this dog-eat-dog world, those at the bottom could only act like mad beasts.

"Why bother? Even becoming the top swordsman only makes you a dog for those nobles," Viserys thought, looking at Bero's corpse.

Viserys, holding his blood-stained Flashsilver sword, approached the gambling table.

"The money I won, it's time to give it to me," Viserys said.

He had just gambled his life and gold, entering the fray himself, and had made a huge profit.

A faint scent of blood enveloped the fountain area, not only Viserys's own blood but also Bero's.

"Yes. Yes. Yes."

After Viserys's flamboyant and sharp assassin performance, no one wanted to offend him.

His silver hair and purple eyes, though handsome, were now imbued with a dangerous aura due to the blood and wound.

Looking at the dazzling array of gold, silver, and copper coins before him, and even some precious exotic wood carvings and jewelry.

Viserys's heart blossomed with joy; high leverage had yielded high returns.

However, his reputation was already established, so he wouldn't earn as much money in the future...

Viserys grabbed another handful of gold coins from the table and handed them to Bero's friends.

Those men, like Bero, wore luxurious silk clothing and had rapiers at their waists.

Viserys looked at this group of assassins; these people were actually much like the Ghostfire youths, all risking their lives for money...

"Take his body away. If he has family, give these to them."

"You..." Bero's friends stared at Viserys, stunned. They had never seen such a swordsman.

"Take it. If he has family, they'll surely need this money," Viserys said, tossing the gold coins. "This isn't pity. I've already won enough gold."

Water Dancers adhered to the principle of accepting a gamble's outcome, so while avenging friends did happen, it was extremely rare.

After all, dying on the battlefield was a life choice for an assassin.

"You are a true Water Dancer."

"Your good deed today will surely be repaid handsomely in the future."

Bero's flamboyantly dressed companions bowed to Viserys, then lifted their comrade's body and departed.

"Silver Swordsman!"

"Silver Swordsman!"

The surrounding people frantically called out his name, the silver-haired swordsman.

"Thank you all for watching. I am injured and cannot stay long. I look forward to providing you with an even better performance next time." Viserys grabbed a handful of inexpensive copper coins and scattered them among the onlookers.

His action naturally caused a scramble, and the spectators eagerly vied for these small prizes.

"Silver Swordsman!"

"Silver Swordsman!"

Although he had already slipped away, those behind him were still shouting his name.

After all, Viserys not only fought beautifully but also knew how to put on a show.

Some time after Viserys left the Moon Pool, Moro also snuck over and handed Viserys a pot of Myrish fire.

"Good lad. Killing Quicksword in your first appearance, you truly are a genius," Moro said with satisfaction.

In fact, he had been very worried earlier. After all, he had taught Viserys himself and was very afraid that Viserys would die suddenly.

"I'm fine, Moro," Viserys said, taking off his mask and smiling.

The Myrish fire ointment had a burning sensation when applied to his wound.

"Alright, don't push yourself. I'll introduce you to someone. Your Water Dance is beyond what I can teach, but the road is long, and you still have much to learn," Moro said.

"Syrio Forel. If you like, I can be your dance master." A gaunt, bald man with a large hooked nose emerged from the shadows, holding a pair of slender wooden swords.

"It's my honor." Viserys forced a smile, but the smile pulled at his wound.

"I watched your fight. You are very clever and very brave. A good swordsman needs talent, luck, effort, and wisdom. You have these fundamentals, which will allow you to touch the path of insight."
