Day Three of Trial
I woke with my stomach in knots. Today, the prosecution would rest. Today, our defense would begin.
Today, I might have to take the stand.
"You ready for this?" Bianca asked, handing me coffee I didn't want.
"No. But does it matter?"
"It matters that you fight. That you don't let Isabella's lies win." She sat beside me. "Mia, I've known you since freshman year. I've seen you at your worst—crying over rent, stressed about grades, grieving your mom. And you know what I've never seen?"
"What?"
"You being anyone's puppet. You're the most stubborn, independent person I know. The jury will see that too."
"I hope you're right."
"I am. Now eat something. You'll need your strength."
The Courtroom - 9 AM
The energy was different today. The prosecution was wrapping up. Soon, it would be our turn.
"The State calls its final witness," Morrison announced. "Detective Lisa Park, NYPD."
