Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: The Ice Grass Silkworm Bead and The Record of Rare Flora

The blazing flame surging within Yan's body was incomparably fierce—like a burning inferno, endlessly roiling inside him.

This fiery power not only bestowed upon him a head of brilliant, flame-red hair but also etched unique flame-like markings across his skin, as though a fire totem had been imprinted upon his body—an unmistakable testament to his extraordinary strength.

In the past, Yan had been quite proud of this striking, fiery appearance—his long crimson hair and those flame patterns were his pride, a declaration to the world that he was no ordinary Spirit Master.

But now, his thoughts had changed.

That aura of scorching dominance, which once filled him with confidence, also made his identity instantly recognizable—anyone could tell at a glance that he was a fire-attribute Spirit Master. It certainly added to his presence and could even intimidate those whose attributes were restrained by fire.

Yet when facing true experts, things were different.

If his attribute and strength could be seen through immediately, it meant exposing his greatest advantage before the battle had even begun—an undeniable tactical weakness.

For that reason, Yan sought a way to suppress the fiery aura within him—to truly achieve mastery over release and restraint.

He knew that Yue Guan might hold the answer. That was why he had come to visit.

When Yan revealed his wish to conceal the fiery energy within him, a hint of puzzlement appeared on Yue Guan's face.

He gently waved the folding fan in his hand, sending out a soft breeze that, however, could not dispel the doubt in his heart.

"Yan, weren't you once proud of that overwhelming aura of yours? That blazing flame was your trademark—why do you wish to hide it now?"

"Elder Ju, I used to think it was cool. But I've changed my mind. Showing off one's strengths too openly may not always be a good thing."

Yue Guan nodded thoughtfully.

He could sense that the youth before him was no longer the same as before—not just in words, but also in demeanor.

"You have a point. Your fiery aura is indeed far too eye-catching. When you first came to my residence, even my servants recognized you immediately. In the entire Spirit City, there's probably no one else who looks quite like a walking flame."

Yue Guan teased lightly.

Yan scratched his head, laughing awkwardly.

"Elder Ju, do you have any method that could help me suppress my fiery aura?"

Yue Guan smiled faintly, looking rather pleased with himself.

"You came to the right person. However, the flame power within you is no small matter—I can only help you suppress it temporarily."

Yan's eyes lit up with excitement.

"Elder Ju, what method is it?"

Yue Guan reached to his waist and retrieved a small soul tool. From within, he produced a single pill.

That pill was crystal clear, shining with a faint icy-blue hue. Even from several meters away, Yan could feel its chilling aura seeping through the air.

Yan's gaze fixed upon the bead, his curiosity brimming.

"Elder Ju, what kind of miraculous elixir is this? Did you refine it yourself?"

Yue Guan nodded slightly.

"This is the Ice Grass Silkworm Bead, refined from Millennium Cold Ice Grass and Ultimate Cold Ice Silkworms. It can temporarily suppress the fiery energy within your body. The Ice Silkworms are easy enough to find—the far north is full of them—but the Millennium Cold Ice Grass is rare indeed. So, I can only give you two of these."

As he spoke, Yue Guan took out another bead from his soul tool and handed both to Yan.

Yan rose to his feet, accepted them with both hands, and bowed deeply in gratitude.

Even just holding the beads, he could feel an intense coldness spread through his body, bringing with it an unexpected sense of relief.

"Elder Ju, thank you so much. These beads are incredibly precious, and you're giving me two!"

"Think nothing of it. You came to seek my help—it wouldn't do to let you leave empty-handed."

As Yue Guan spoke, his gaze lingered on Yan for a moment. He could see that the young man truly had changed. Not only in speech, but in bearing—more restrained, more respectful.

"Yan, you've already broken through the fortieth level, and the flame power within you has grown even stronger. A single Ice Grass Silkworm Bead will only suppress it for about twelve hours. Once you reach the fiftieth rank, its effect will last no more than six."

"I understand. Elder Ju, I'll treasure these two beads and use them wisely."

Yan carefully placed the two beads into his own soul tool, then hesitated before speaking again.

"Elder Ju, there's… one more thing I'd like to ask for."

Yue Guan frowned, his expression shifting slightly.

"What is it this time?"

"I wonder if you might have something like a compendium of flora—books or scrolls on rare plants. I wish to study them."

"What?!"

Yue Guan's eyes widened in surprise.

Yan knew that Yue Guan's passion for flowers was unmatched. His understanding of rare plants and spirit herbs even surpassed that of Dugu Bo, who had devoted his life to studying medicine.

Indeed, as soon as the subject of plants was raised, Yue Guan's eyes lit up with a gleam of excitement.

"Yan, since when did you take an interest in studying plants?"

"Elder Ju, these Ice Grass Silkworm Beads are too precious, and I can't trouble you for more. If I can learn to recognize the Millennium Cold Ice Grass myself and find it, perhaps I could even learn the art of alchemy from you."

Yue Guan chuckled softly.

It was rare for anyone to seek his guidance on flowers and herbs—he was genuinely delighted.

"If it's merely to suppress your fiery energy, that's unnecessary. Once you reach the sixtieth rank, the beads will hardly work on you anymore."

"Then what should I do?"

"You'll have to seek another path—one that lies in the power of immortal herbs."

"Immortal herbs?"

As a reborn soul master, Yan knew exactly what Yue Guan meant. He had, in fact, come here hoping to gain Yue Guan's trust and assistance on this very matter.

Yue Guan continued:

"Immortal herbs are no ordinary plants. Each contains a unique and potent essence. If you can find one that truly suits your nature and successfully absorb it, it could allow you to suppress your fiery energy permanently."

He sighed softly as he spoke.

"But… immortal herbs are rare treasures, nearly impossible to find. I've spent my life studying flora—ordinary immortal herbs, I've seen a few. But a truly supreme one… that remains a dream."

Yan nodded slightly.

He knew well that in the heart of the Sunset Forest lay the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well—a twin spring of opposing forces, whose energies nourished countless immortal herbs. There, he might find exactly what he sought.

"Wait here a moment."

"Alright."

Yue Guan went back to his study and soon returned, holding a book.

"This is The Record of Rare Flora. It contains detailed descriptions of many plants. If you're truly interested, start by studying it. If you can find even a suitable ordinary immortal herb, it should be enough to suppress your flames for three to five years."
