Outside the Yao Clan's territory, heaven and earth trembled beneath the roars of countless Magical Beasts. The skies were dark with wings, the earth alive with fur and scales. Standing atop this tide of beasts was Zi Yan, her purple-gold eyes flashing like lightning. Around her, Zhu Bei, Zhu Yu, and Zhu Fei stood in tight formation, while the rest of the Ancient Void Dragon Elders fanned out across the battlefield.
Far ahead, an ocean of blood mist churned and boiled. The stench of blood was so thick that even from ten thousand meters away, it seemed to burn into the soul. From that crimson cloud came the suffocating aura of the Hun Clan.
They had come before — and each time, Zi Yan had crushed them back. But this time was different. The one standing at their head was Hun Tiandi himself.
His calm, commanding voice had spread across the battlefield like the toll of a divine bell. In response, Zi Yan's expression darkened as her golden-purple eyes locked onto him. Behind her was Liu Xi — the man she had sworn to protect. There was no retreat. Not even in the face of this man who stood at the peak of the continent, a Late 9-Star Dou Saint.
Her gaze flickered briefly over the vast host of beasts arrayed behind her. 'If this truly erupts into battle,' she thought grimly, 'the cost will be terrible.'
A 9-Star powerhouse was not something numbers could overwhelm. To face such a being, one needed equal strength — not courage alone.
Still, her voice came calm and resolute, echoing like thunder through the crowd. "If it's battle you want, then battle it shall be. Today, not a single one of you takes a step forward!"
Zhu Bei, Zhu Yu, and Zhu Fei stepped closer, forming a living wall around Zi Yan. Though each of them knew they could not match Hun Tiandi, none flinched. The Dragon Emperor had chosen to fight to the death — and they would follow, even into the grave.
In the distance, Hun Tiandi's eyes, deep and tranquil as an abyss, rippled faintly. To the Hun Clan, the Void Devouring Flame was beyond priceless. Even if it meant making enemies of the entire Beast Region, he would reclaim it.
"Since the Dragon Emperor chooses death," he said softly, his voice carrying across the sky, "then I shall personally escort you to the afterlife."
Boom!
The heavens shook. Space itself fractured as an invisible pressure exploded outward. Even the energy of the world a thousand miles away was drawn toward him in surging waves.
Centered around Hun Tiandi, the shockwave spread like rippling tides. Beasts flying through the air plummeted to the ground; those already upon it were forced to their knees, trembling under the weight of an aura that could smother life itself.
Every beast felt it — the primal instinct screaming that death was near. This place was about to become a purgatory.
All eyes turned to Zi Yan. Her body shook slightly beneath the crushing pressure. Even with the three elders shielding her, the overwhelming might of Hun Tiandi still pressed down like a mountain. Yet she stood unmoving, the purple-gold light of her bloodline shining around her. Her delicate shoulders bore the weight of an emperor's wrath.
"Foolish creature," Hun Tiandi murmured, his tone laced with disdain. He raised his palm — the air quaked, the world's energy howled in response. That single strike, if unleashed, could erase a city from existence.
Then, a voice rang out — low, casual, and dripping with mockery.
"So you're the so-called Hun Tiandi, huh?"
The suffocating silence shattered. Every head turned in disbelief. Someone had actually spoken to the Hun Clan's patriarch — like that.
The Hun Clan erupted in fury.
"Who dares speak before the Clan Leader!"
"Such insolence! This one deserves to die a thousand deaths!"
"Skin him alive! Tear his bones apart! Refine his soul until he begs for death!"
The bloody sea boiled with rage. This was supposed to be the moment they witnessed their clan leader's divine might — and yet someone had dared interrupt it.
But before Hun Tiandi could speak, Zi Yan's lips curved into a smile. Bright and sharp as sunlight. Her heart, heavy moments ago, lightened in an instant. That voice — she would recognize it anywhere. With Liu Xi here, she feared nothing.
Zhu Bei and the others exchanged grins. He had finally emerged from seclusion. The tremors during his breakthrough alone had shaken the entire realm; even if he could not surpass Hun Tiandi, he would not fall short either.
Many of the lesser Magical Beasts didn't recognize the name. To them, the speaker was a nameless human — yet one who dared provoke the strongest existence beneath the heavens. To them, this was courage beyond reckoning.
Then, from within the ranks of beasts, a figure in azure robes appeared silently. He stood with his hands behind his back, stepping lightly into the air. His frame seemed slender, almost fragile — yet his presence was boundless. The sky itself seemed to steady beneath his feet. Alone, he took the full brunt of Hun Tiandi's might.
The storm that had torn the heavens apart… ceased. The black clouds dissolved. The winds retreated. Space, shattered by Hun Tiandi's anger, slowly mended itself, returning to its crystalline calm.
The pressure that had crushed mountains brushed across Liu Xi like a passing breeze. It barely stirred the hem of his robe before fading away entirely.
He looked across the void at the man in white — handsome, refined, his gaze as deep as the abyss, the faint crimson glint in his eyes betraying his monstrous power.
'So this is Hun Tiandi.'
'His aura is stronger than mine by a margin… perhaps a small one. Late 9-Star Dou Saint indeed. But now… I am no weaker than him.'
Liu Xi's lips curved into a proud, fearless smile. Standing upright between heaven and earth, he radiated the calm confidence of one who had long surpassed fear. Ever since his breakthrough to Dou Saint, he had kept to the shadows. Now, that time is over.
Hun Tiandi, meanwhile, studied him with unreadable eyes. Beneath the calm exterior, his thoughts churned violently. The youth before him — this aura, this presence — it exceeded anything he had anticipated.
The man's beauty was ethereal, his jade-like features bathed in a soft divine glow that inspired instinctive respect. Yet between his brows lingered a trace of demonic allure, a subtle darkness that felt strangely familiar.
His Dou Qi was silent, restrained — but Hun Tiandi could tell that once released, it would not be inferior to his own.
Thus, despite Liu Xi's arrogant words, Hun Tiandi did not grow angry. Because this man — terrifyingly — had earned the right to speak so arrogantly.
"May I ask who you are?" Hun Tiandi's voice was calm, the tone of a ruler addressing an equal. "To have reached such a realm, you cannot possibly be an unknown figure."
Liu Xi raised a brow, faintly surprised. For the so-called greatest villain on the continent, Hun Tiandi's composure was impressive. Even when provoked, he could speak so politely.
He smiled lightly. "Liu Xi. Compared to the mighty name of Hun Tiandi, I'm indeed an unknown. After all, it's only been a few decades since I started cultivating — surely my name has yet to reach your ears."
A casual statement — but Hun Tiandi's pupils contracted sharply.
'A few decades? Someone who had cultivated for mere decades had already reached the 9-Star Dou Saint realm?' That was beyond terrifying — it was impossible.
He silently cursed Hun Miesheng, who oversaw the Hall of Souls, for his incompetence. For such a monster to have appeared on the continent without the Hun Clan knowing — it was an unforgivable failure.
Hun Tiandi studied Liu Xi again, his mind already calculating. He wasn't certain he could defeat this man quickly. And if Liu Xi joined forces with Gu Yuan, things would become troublesome.
Suppressing his fury, Hun Tiandi said evenly, "Our clan's Void Devouring Flame went missing here in the Yao Realm. We came to reclaim it. I ask only that you do not interfere. The Hun Clan will owe you a favor."
Liu Xi's lips curved into a slow, teasing smile. "The Void Devouring Flame…? Ah, that's awkward. I've already eaten it."
"…What?"
Hun Tiandi's composure shattered. The Void Devouring Flame was a cornerstone of his grand plan — and this man had just claimed to consume it.
But now that he looked closer, the faint dark energy flickering between Liu Xi's brows — that chaotic, devouring aura — told him the truth.
He wasn't lying.
The Void Devouring Flame truly… had been devoured.
