Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: Good Guys? Villains? (Part 2)

The figure rapidly moving through the tide of Corpse Puppets naturally caught the attention of Ladis and Valtos. Ladis summoned his grimoire, and another special Corpse Puppet appeared. Its limbs were long and slender, its entire body tightly wrapped in bandages, and it wore a strange eye patch.

Almost as soon as it appeared, several dark curse bullets hovered at its side. Without a word, specialized curse bullets scattered, and Valtos manipulated space magic, with teleportation to different dimensions flashing frequently!

Curse bullets attacked from all directions, leaving no blind spots.

Thanks to the nearly half-year-long climbing training two months prior, during the 'cat and mouse' chase and escape with Yuno, not only did his physical fitness and Mana Skin techniques improve significantly, but his mana sensing, which requires predicting mana trajectories, also received a unique enhancement.

At this moment, Bai En, who was maintaining his sprint by circulating his breathing method and Mana Skin, seemed to enter a silent space. The surrounding surging, abnormal mana clearly appeared under that special organ called 'perception.'

Although affected by the environment within the mine, within an absolute range around him, Bai En's mana sensing was still effective.

Curse bullets poured down like rain, but Bai En strolled through the rain. Every curse bullet barely grazed past him just as it was about to touch him, not bringing up a single trace of blood or flesh.

His simple twisting and dodging movements effortlessly evaded all attacks, like a precisely operating machine!

Ladis gritted his teeth, "Huh? What's going on with that guy? Judging by the mana erupting from him, he's not much stronger than me, but... how did he do it?"

Generally speaking, the way to judge a Mage's strength is by directly observing the mana he unleashes, after all, mana is the foundation of everything.

Ladis, who entered The Azure Orcas with the top score in the Magic Knights exam, did not have mana inferior to that of ordinary royalty or nobles. He could sense that the guy in front of him wasn't much stronger than his own mana.

But this... completely unscathed evasion of the curse bullets fired by Jimmy in conjunction with spatial magic... was truly terrifying!

The distance between the two sides was constantly closing.

Valtos suddenly pushed Ladis aside and fell backward himself. Ladis, who had been pushed down, rubbed his head as he got up from the ground, just about to curse Valtos for his inexplicable behavior.

He saw a line of blood spurt from Valtos' sickly pale face.

His own right cheek also began to sting. Ladis reached out to touch it, and the crimson on his hand was clearly blood!

The red of the blood reflected in his eyes, and he began to tremble uncontrollably: "Damn it! Damn it! You damned Magic Knight! I will kill you!"

Before Ladis could react further, Valtos pulled him through spatial magic, and in the next moment, their figures appeared through a different dimension on the giant Salamander created by Sally.

Bai En, who had just swung his sword, frowned slightly. Valtos, who used spatial magic, seemed to have a talent for mana sensing far beyond that of ordinary Mages.

If the flying slash 'Release' hadn't been fast enough just now, they probably would have dodged his attack without a scratch.

Now, Valtos and the other two were together, countless Corpse Puppets had fallen around them, but a continuous stream of Corpse Puppets still surrounded Bai En and Jie Kai.

Combining this with the Royal Capital invasion that occurred after Asta's Magic Palace trip in the original story, Bai En vaguely guessed the reason for these three appearing here - to accumulate power to cooperate with Patry's plan!

Another two curse bullets missed and hit the ground, blasting out semi-concave craters.

On the giant Salamander, Ladis summoned another special Corpse Puppet. Its entire face was wrapped in bandages, and it wore the same Eye of the Midnight Sun uniform robe as Valtos.

Scale-like fragments were stacked like shields, interlocking to form a spherical magic barrier that enveloped Ladis and Valtos, who stood on the Salamander's head.

Protected by the barrier, Ladis began to act arrogantly. Even from a distance, where his voice couldn't be heard, his excited expression was clearly visible.

Another massive wave of curse bullets attacked, mixed with spatial spheres condensed by Valtos using spatial magic. The scattered curse bullets and spatial spheres exploded wildly inside the cave, indiscriminately hitting Corpse Puppets and the Magic Knights.

It was like a bullet storm.

One crater after another appeared on the black earth, and shattered rocks constantly splattered, raising dust and smoke. Corpse Puppets and human figures became blurred in the rising embers.

"Die! Die!"

Ladis stood on the Salamander's head, looking at the smoke and explosions below, a mocking and playful smile on his lips, "Dodge, I'd like to see how you dodge!"

The smoke lingered for a long time, the sound of explosions echoed endlessly, and the splashing shattered rocks could be vaguely seen.

Valtos, whose personality was more composed, observed the smoke. He always felt it was too quiet... but the explosions hadn't stopped.

What exactly was wrong?

That's it... only the sound of explosions.

There was no human sound at all – no cries of pain, no sounds of fleeing, no wails... nothing. It was so quiet, as if there were no people in this smoke.

Valtos slowed down the speed and frequency of opening spatial portals, attempting to find the figures and movements of the Magic Knights in this way.

"What's wrong? Valtos, is your mana running out?"

Seeing Valtos slow down, Ladis sneered and took a step forward: "If that's the case, then you can rest a bit and let me put in some effort. Watch closely!"

"Alfred!"

The special Corpse Puppet, previously suspended in the air shrouded in lightning, reappeared. At Ladis' command, above the smoke, a thick silver lightning bolt, like a snake, fiercely struck downwards, crackling with electricity.

"What an idiot," Valtos cursed under his breath.

"Huh? What the hell are you talking about?"

"Nothing."

"I say, Valtos, you should also train yourself well. Your mana depletes so quickly, and you're a spatial Mage. Otherwise, why don't you, like Nois, give yourself to Sally for research?"

"That guy's mana improvement..."

"Watch out!" Valtos' sudden shout caught Ladis' attention. The special Corpse Puppet that had been standing by his side - Karl, currently ranked No. 1 in Corpse Spirit Magic - released an increasingly solid barrier.

From the smoke, a black shadow flew out at extreme speed.

One moment it shot out of the smoke, the next it was already in front of them. The spherical barrier and that soul-devouring object collided fiercely, sparks flashing endlessly. After the barrier repelled the black shadow, the hovering small sword caught the attention of Ladis and Valtos.

'This is... sword magic?'

'That was close, if Karl hadn't been continuously releasing magic, it would have been bad again. That guy with the sword... I must kill him!'
