Bronze Fertile Plains.
The meteorite suspended high in the sky grew increasingly menacing, its spiderweb-like cracks becoming denser, until with a 'crack,' the entire meteorite shattered, and the overflowing magic stirred up a violent storm, sending debris and wind pressure sweeping in all directions.
In the surging airflow, the horned horses pulling the chariot reared back, letting out frightened whinnies. Fendro quickly pulled the reins; his hands were as wrinkled as an old face but still strong.
Seeing this, the dwarves holding heavy shields changed their formation, erecting a double layer of shields. The wind pressure passed, and the formation held firm.
The Demon God, now free, revealed its full form: an exceptionally massive black body, covered in blue, rust-like patterns, with a single head and a long tail. Compared to the Demon God remains outside Hage Village, which resembled giant horn bones, this Demon God Cerberus looked more like a bronze giant dog.
It had a dog-like face and beastly head, with sharp fangs protruding from its mouth, glinting coldly, and green venom dripping from its snarling maw.
"Attack!"
The dwarves' horn sounded! The war cry was still in khuzdul!
Dwarves holding javelins threw them with all their might at Cerberus in the air. The giant heavy crossbows behind the square formation also began firing. A rain of javelins and crossbow bolts poured forth with immense power, and in the next moment, these rain-like weapons glowed with lightning and flames.
The dwarves had long prepared for this battle, using weapons crafted from special ores and techniques. Their goal was to kill the Demon God!
Cerberus roared at the flames and lightning. Being in its weakest state, it could not evade the rapidly approaching javelins and crossbow bolts. Attacks imbued with immense force and magic struck its body, seemingly intent on impaling it like a bloody porcupine.
"Clang, clang ~" collision sounds echoed one after another.
After one round of attacks, Cerberus let out a roaring bellow from its gaping maw, and the air rippled like sound waves. All the javelins and crossbow bolts struck its body, yet not a single drop of blood or wound appeared.
The blue, rust-like patterns glowed with an enchanting brilliance.
Cerberus, provoked and enraged, charged towards the dwarf formation. Its massive body, the face of a fierce dog, and its seemingly impenetrable physique caused some dwarf soldiers to feel fear, and their steps tended to retreat.
Dulin IV, the Dwarf King, saw everything. He brandished the warhammer in his hand, full of fury: "Attack! Attack! Defend our kingdom! Protect our children!"
Yes… even if they ran, where could they go?
This was, in the end, a fight to the death. Only the warhammers and great axes in their hands were truths worth singing about!
"Attack! Attack!"
The dwarves, spurred on by their King's call and the horns echoing through the sky, cast aside their cowardice. Driven by courage of flesh and blood, they charged forward fearlessly.
The sudden rain of javelins and crossbow bolts roared again. The ferocious Demon God plunged into it, its bronze body unbreakable. It passed through the downpour and landed directly into the dwarves' square formation, arrogant and unhindered, with no one able to stop it!
It casually opened its mouth and bit a dwarf nearby. Its sharp teeth pierced through the body, and it chewed heartily, dark red blood and venom from its mouth splattering onto the black soil.
"Attack!"
Death no longer made the dwarves retreat. They launched a terrifying assault. War axes and warhammers made of mithril, wielded by elite soldiers, unleashed their power, and various magic attacks assailed Cerberus.
But… all their efforts seemed to be in vain.
Neither the earlier heavy crossbows and javelins, nor the current war axes and warhammers, had any effect on Cerberus. Its bronze body seemed to be the hardest shield in this world; even weapons made by dwarves could not breach it.
On the ground, there was only dwarf blood, staining the earth red, the pungent smell of gore thick in the air.
Cerberus again used its massive tail to swat away the dwarves in the air who were attempting to cleave it from above with their war axes. It feasted with gusto, the weakness caused by the seal now completely gone.
"Mission…"
"Open it… open… the gate to the Underworld in the heart of the earth!!"
The demon's whispers echoed in the Demon God's mind. Cerberus remembered the purpose of its existence. Unhindered in the dwarf formation, it began to advance towards the deep underground kingdom.
Dulin IV, in the chariot pulled by the horned horses, finally stopped observing the battle. He had intended to act after Cerberus's magic power was weakened, but the current casualty situation made that impossible… Dulin IV did not understand why his ancestors, five hundred years ago, had left murals depicting fierce battles against the Demon God, yet had left no records of anything about the Demon God.
But… that no longer mattered. Ancestors… look at the dwarves now. Today, they would use the Demon God's blood to honor their fallen kin.
Dulin IV leaped from the chariot. He was like an aging lion, making his final hunt in the last moments of his twilight years.
Crackling thunder wrapped around his warhammer, and the dancing electric arcs left a long trailing shadow. This fierce blow, falling from the sky, was like a bolt from the heavens.
The lightning struck Cerberus. The bronze patterns glowed with brilliance, sparks flying. With a "clang," Dulin IV was sent flying backward, landing steadily with the help of the dwarves. Cerberus also halted its steps.
The hand gripping the warhammer trembled uncontrollably. He had hammered countless ores and metals in his life, but this one… Demon God Cerberus, was unbelievably hard, not at all like something that should exist in this world!
"However, if it's just this…"
Dulin IV tightened his grip on the warhammer. The dwarf crown on his head emitted light, tiny specks of light, like fireflies, spreading throughout the dwarf formation, wrapping around everyone like threads of fate.
This crown was the most perfect artifact he had ever forged in his life, meant to be passed down through the line of kings. But using it at this moment would not be a waste.
The threads connected all the dwarves.
"Everyone… please lend me your strength to kill the Demon God."
"For the dwarves!"
"Everything for us dwarves!"
"Kill him!"
Magic power was drawn along the threads. Under the invoked will of the crown, it converged. Dulin IV swung the warhammer in his hand, and the blue lightning turned into scorching white.
It slowly descended like a white sun.
Cerberus, sensing the danger, let out a roar, but this time its roar was no longer terrifying; instead, it seemed exceptionally small.
The daylight, like the opened eyes of a Candle Dragon, left only light. Darkness dispersed, appearing incredibly warm. After a long time, the light began to recede, and the world started to reappear. In the slightly blurred world, the massive Cerberus was gone.
It was as if it had never appeared.
Until the vision became clear, a dwarf suddenly shouted, "The Demon God has been annihilated!"
"We won!"
"We won!"
Unstoppable cheers surged like a tide. Dulin IV, Fendro, went limp and collapsed backward, but were quickly helped up. Although he had no strength left, a relieved smile was on his face.
"Do you see? We won!"
A black shadow, like a flame, appeared in the air… Fendro noticed it by chance, then his expression changed, and he shouted, "Run!"
