Chapter 41 - Chapter 41: Never, Ever Provoke Lynn

For the next three days, Lynn enjoyed himself in Miami.

Compared to New York, the beaches here were pure paradise—especially with all the stunning women in bikinis basking under the sun.

Even with his enhanced physique, Lynn still felt a bit exhausted after helping apply sunscreen to so many of them.

If someone asked him what it meant to be so happy you forget where you live, he could confidently say he finally understood.

If George Stacy hadn't called, Lynn honestly wouldn't have wanted to return to New York at all.

He'd already fought two battles with Vampires—surely he'd earned a little vacation time?

...

Back in New York, at the Manhattan Police Department,

"Thank you!"

Jennifer's eyes lit up as she admired the souvenir Lynn had brought her from Miami.

Her figure, accentuated by the police uniform, became even more enticing, and as her red lips parted slightly, she spoke in a sultry tone, "Do you have time tonight? It seems my water pipe's broken."

"So..?"

"So.. Lynn, would you mind helping me fix the water pipe?"

As she spoke, Jennifer's fingertip slowly traced the back of Lynn's hand.

Short of saying it outright, she was very clearly inviting him over.

"Jennifer, believe me, I'd love to accept your invitation. But you know George slapped a ban on me."

Lynn spread his hands with a helpless expression. "Unless I want to get shipped off to patrol Staten Island, I can only refuse your very tempting offer."

Hearing that, Jennifer frowned immediately. "What right does George have to ban you from anything? He's not your parent, and you're not a minor. This kind of house arrest is completely unreasonable!"

With that, she spun around, hair swaying, and marched straight toward George Stacy's office.

"You—honestly—every time you come back, you give George trouble."

Lina walked over and handed him a cup of coffee.

"Thanks, but hey, that's what he gets for dragging me back. You know I wasn't done having fun in Miami."

Hearing Lynn admit he provoked things on purpose, Lina puffed her cheeks. "Your petty personality really hasn't changed."

"But anyway, Lynn, if you're not into Jennifer, I'm asking her out myself."

Seeing Lynn's raised eyebrows, Lina lifted her chin. "What? Got a problem with my orientation?"

"Of course not!"

Lynn made a surrendering gesture, while Lina added, "But are you sure Jennifer—"

Before she could finish, shouting suddenly erupted from George Stacy's office.

Hearing Jennifer raising her voice and George trying to explain himself, Lina covered her mouth and laughed. "Oh, you're in for trouble later."

"Heh~ What can I do?"

Lynn pointed at Sean, who stood nearby looking panicked—wanting to rush in and help Jennifer but too afraid to interfere, instead just wringing his hands uselessly.

Lynn grinned. "You believe I can make him take the blame for me with just one sentence?"

"Oh?"

Lina looked him up and down, then pulled out twenty dollars. "A bet?"

"Sure. No problem."

Lynn took the twenty, slipped it into his pocket, then casually walked over to Jennifer's devoted little simp.

Throwing an arm over Sean's shoulder, he said, "Buddy, I know you like Jennifer. A man needs to confess bravely, you get it? Otherwise, the girl you love will definitely fall into someone else's arms."

Hearing Lynn's teasing, Sean shot him a glare. "Easy for you to say. Everyone in the Manhattan Police Department knows Jennifer likes you."

"That's why, buddy, I refused her!"

Lynn looked at Sean with a perfectly serious expression, bluffing with absolute confidence. "I used George's ban as an excuse to turn her down. But now she's barged straight into George's office."

"Think about it—who do you think I'm doing all this for?"

Sean slowly turned his head, suspicious. "...It wouldn't be for me, would it?"

"Of course it's for you, buddy. Do you really want to see Jennifer's face when I'm drilling her?"

One sentence.

Sean's face went green.

The moment he pictured Jennifer's expression "blooming" under Lynn's attack, his heart practically shattered on the spot.

Seeing him crack, Lynn pushed harder. "See? Everything I'm doing is for you—because I know you like Jennifer... George and I are partners, so I lied and said it was his ban. George will understand and play along, no problem."

"But George is getting old… what if he slips up?"

Sean panicked immediately. "Then what do I do? What should I do now?"

"Go in there and pull Jennifer out, of course!"

Lynn clapped Sean's shoulder, speaking like a wise mentor guiding a lost youth. "Buddy, love doesn't fall into your lap. You have to grab it yourself."

"I've done everything I can for you. The rest depends on your courage. Go get her, champ!"

Faced with Lynn's earnest expression, Sean nodded hard. "Lynn, I misjudged you before. I'm willing to apologize!"

Then, taking a deep breath, he marched straight toward George Stacy's office.

"Oh my God," Lina muttered, watching in disbelief as her jaw practically hit the floor. "No way… is Sean actually an idiot? You're clearly tricking him!"

Lynn shrugged, palms up. "Even so, he should still be thanking us."

Right on cue, Sean turned his head at the door, gave Lynn a solemn, heartfelt nod of gratitude, then pushed the door open and stepped inside with heroic determination.

Lina slapped a hand to her forehead. "Why are my coworkers all so fucked up? Lynn, please—act like a human being for once!"

"Haha…"

Lynn chuckled twice, about to reply..

But then, out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a translucent wraith drifting by the precinct entrance, clutching its abdomen, a purple obsession swirling around it.

His heart instantly lit up with excitement.

Placing his coffee cup into Lina's hands, Lynn said, "I've got something urgent. If George asks, just tell him I ran into an emergency!"

With that, Lynn headed straight for the precinct entrance.

Watching him walk off, Lina sighed and shook her head, then tiptoed toward George Stacy's office door. She pressed her ear against it, curiosity written all over her face.

But before she could make out anything clearly, the door swung open.

Startled, Lina froze, then forced an awkward smile as she looked at Jennifer—who was seething with anger—and Sean, who stood beside her with his head down and his face dark as thunder.

She peeked past them into the office and saw George Stacy sitting there, utterly speechless.

At that moment, Lina swore to herself that she would never, ever provoke Lynn—that petty, scheming man—again.
