The state of Varrow--the land in which relics rule--is worrisome.
Centuries-old cataclysms carved scars across the land.
Ruined kingdoms, sunken valleys, cursed territories and fractured skies bleed deep.
Civilisation persists, but nothing is whole.
Most cities stand atop older worlds.
Others refuse to speak about what lies beneath their image.
------
There is no clear consensus on where Relics came from.
The common theories suggest:
- Fragments of old weapons used in forgotten wars.
- Echoes of extinct beings that used to walk among the lands.
- Eternal memories stored in objects or items, left behind by powers unknown.
Every theory contradicts the other.
Every theory is incomplete.
The only constant, the only certainty is they all operate the same at a base level.
- They offer power, in exchange for Cost.
- They can reject or accept wielders at will.
- They grow stronger, in conjunction with the wielder.
- They all influence thoughts, instincts and emotions.
- They cannot be easily trusted.
- They cannot be easily destroyed.
That is just the basics.
In Varrow, relics shape: power, politics, religion, war and fear.
What lies deeper down a Relic's path is not so easily spoken aloud.
