Chapter 20 - Chapter 19: Supernatural Powers

"Ding! Successfully captured the Pokémon Entei. Please select one of its skills as your own."

The moment the Poké Ball stopped shaking, a system notification, which had been silent for a long time, rang in Jack's mind. Simultaneously, a system panel, visible only to him, popped up before his eyes.

"Fire Type Legendary Pokémon: Entei"

"Gender: None"

"Ability: Pressure (Puts the opponent in a tense state, with a 10% chance for their moves to fail.)"

"Held Item: Choice Band (When held, this Pokémon's first move in each battle has its attack increased by 50%.)"

Skills are as follows:

"Sacred Fire: Attacks the opponent with mysterious flames, sometimes leaving them with a burn."

"Flamethrower: Unleashes a burst of flames to attack the opponent. The power of this move changes with the user's condition; the better the condition, the stronger the power."

"Extrasensory: Attacks with unseen Psychic power, sometimes making the opponent flinch."

"Calm Mind: Focuses the mind to raise its Special Attack and Special Defense."

"Rest: Falls into a deep sleep when heavily injured. Upon waking, all injuries, no matter how severe, are healed."

Entei also had many skills; although not as many as Mew, they were still dazzling to behold.

However, Jack didn't hesitate. He had already decided which skill to choose from Entei.

"I choose Entei's Extrasensory," Jack replied in his mind.

That's right, among Entei's skills, he didn't choose its powerful Fire Type moves, but rather a Psychic Type move. Even though there was Flamethrower, known as the most powerful Fire Type special attack, he still didn't choose it.

In his eyes, he couldn't use these Fire Type skills at all; using them would only bring him trouble. Because these skills would be used in his human form. For example, if he were to use a Fire Type skill, he would have to breathe fire from his mouth, just like a Pokémon. That would be utterly foolish, completely exposing him as an anomaly and making him a target for everyone. If he absolutely had to use such a skill, why wouldn't he use Mew's Transform skill to become Entei first, which would be both convenient and comfortable?

Choosing the Psychic Type skill Extrasensory was different because its attacks were invisible. If he wanted to attack someone, no one would know it was him. Therefore, in his human form, a subtle Psychic attack was the best…

The next second after choosing Extrasensory, Jack's brain underwent a drastic change. He felt as if he could severely damage someone's brain just by looking at them. Glancing around, Jack wanted to choose one of the nearby Pokémon as his test subject. But after a while, Jack gave up on that idea. After all, they were all Pokémon protected by Entei. If he used them as test subjects arbitrarily, it would only cause Entei to bear a grudge against him.

Picking up the Poké Ball from the ground, Jack released Entei from it.

"Why did your Poké Ball make me unable to resist?" Entei immediately asked Jack as soon as it emerged from the Poké Ball.

It had experienced being thrown a Poké Ball upon meeting someone before, but never had it been like with Jack, where it had no ability to resist and was forcibly captured. No matter how hard it tried to break out from inside, the Poké Ball simply wouldn't open.

"Because this is one of my divine powers," Jack smiled. "As long as it's my Poké Ball, Legendary Pokémon like you and Mew will be irresistibly drawn into it."

Upon hearing this, Entei's expression froze, and a hint of fear couldn't help but appear in its eyes as it looked at Jack. According to him, wouldn't he be able to capture it directly the first time they met? There would be no need to say all this nonsense to it.

"You don't need to be so afraid. This divine power of mine was given by the heavens to help me better unite with you all." Jack stepped forward and stroked Entei's head, comforting it. "Besides this divine power, I also have another divine power that is very beneficial to you. As long as you become my partner, your power will grow without limit over time."

"What does that mean?" Entei didn't quite understand.

"It means that in the future, even if you do nothing, you will become stronger and stronger, even surpassing your elder, Ho-Oh."

"Really?!"

Entei was shocked. Its usual calm and composed demeanor was now being challenged by Jack.

"Really. If you don't believe me, you can ask Mew."

Jack casually pointed to Mew, who was once again drinking milk.

"Ever since it's been with me, besides eating, drinking, and occasionally battling others to earn me some money for food, it hasn't done any kind of training. Ask it now if it feels its power has grown faster than ever before."

As Jack's words fell, the milk-drinking Mew immediately stopped, haughtily broke free from Miltank's embrace, and floated over to Jack.

"Master, how can you say that about me? Although my power has indeed grown much stronger than before, it's also due to my diligent training."

Mew looked as if it would get angry if Jack didn't apologize.

"I was wrong. Our Mew actually put in a lot of effort to become strong. It wakes up at six every morning and starts strength training for three hours, and then trains again every hour after that." Jack apologized decisively.

Mew blushed upon hearing this, a little embarrassed, and continued to drink milk.

"Master, you're exaggerating. I'm not that good."

Jack shrugged, then looked at Entei, and whispered in its ear.

"You should be able to distinguish between truth and lies in that conversation, right?"

Entei didn't reply. Instead, it turned and walked out of the cave, looking at Nidoking and Nidoqueen as it fell into thought.

A few minutes later, it spoke to Jack using Telepathy.

"If they become your Pokémon, will they also gain power?"
