Chapter 23 - Chapter 22: Pokémon Detector

Team Leader Ethan rambled on for twenty minutes, finally getting to the point only when he gestured towards the connecting cave.

"Everyone, Mew is currently hiding in that pool of water. However, due to its ability to become invisible and transform, we haven't been able to capture it yet. Fortunately, we've invited all of you. Please go in and help us search for Mew. To better assist you in finding Mew, we've acquired dozens of boxes of Pokémon detectors from the Blue and White Society. The function of this device is..."

Ethan's words were cut short by someone below who couldn't help but interrupt.

"Team Leader Ethan, I'd like to confirm something. Since you know Mew has the ability to become invisible and transform, is it possible that it already became invisible and escaped before we arrived?"

Ethan waved his hand, directly denying it: "I'm telling you, that's impossible. Mew definitely hasn't escaped. Even if it's not in that pool of water, it's still in the mountain range. Because ever since it entered this mountain range, I've had people use Pokémon to physically block all the exits we could find. If Mew tried to leave in an invisible state, the Pokémon would definitely sense it."

The person below then asked again: "Team Leader Ethan, what if Mew found a small exit that we didn't find and got out?"

As soon as he said this, most of the people below nodded, thinking he had a point. Was Mew really that easy to catch?

However, at this moment, Ethan on the stage suddenly jumped down, rushed to the person who had just spoken, slapped him to the ground, then grabbed him and started beating him violently, cursing all the while.

"Let your damn mouth, Ryan, let your damn mouth, Ryan, let your damn mouth, Ryan, let your damn..."

He beat him for a full minute, until Ryan lost consciousness, before Ethan finally let go and returned to the stage, picking up the microphone and continuing.

"I'm telling you now, if anyone dares to jinx Mew escaping in front of me again, that guy below will be your fate!"

After speaking, he took a deep breath, returning to his previous passionate demeanor about catching Mew, and had a box that had been unloaded from the helicopter brought to the stage.

The box was opened, and Ethan took out a fist-sized square block from inside.

"This thing is called a Pokémon detector. It's a machine that Tianshen Technology had already placed in the game during the Closed Beta. Our president spent a fortune to be one of the Closed Beta Players who owned this machine. Its function is to detect if there are any Legendary Pokémon within a two-hundred-meter radius."

"The president once used this device to find Celebi, a Mythical Pokémon that can travel through time. However, it's a pity that at the time, Tianshen Technology's directive to players was that Closed Beta Players were not allowed to capture any Legendary Pokémon other than ordinary Pokémon, or their game qualifications would be revoked. So, the president could only let it go."

"But now the game has diverged from the real world, and we no longer need to worry about any rules Tianshen Technology set in the past. Therefore, the president used his assets in the Pokémon world to research and develop this weakened version of the Pokémon detector. Its effect is to detect Legendary Pokémon within a one-hundred-meter radius. Later, you will take this and go in to detect if Mew is among them. However, there's one thing you need to pay attention to when using it."

As he spoke, Ethan pressed a button on the top of the square block. A small projection was cast from it. A white Pokémon, resembling a horse, a Qilin, or a centaur, appeared in the projection.

"That is, when you turn it on, you first need to select the Legendary Pokémon you want to detect. As long as there's a trace of this Pokémon within a hundred-meter radius, the projection will flash. Taking now as an example, when the detector is turned on, the first choice is Arceus, known as the creator god. But we definitely don't have its trace here, so the projection naturally won't flash. Therefore, at this time, we need to switch the projection, that is, switch to Mew's projection, because we know there are traces of it here."

Ethan then demonstrated how to switch the projection.

"You can switch the projection by just swiping your hand. When it switches to Mew's projection, you can stop."

Two seconds later, Ethan switched to Mew's projection. The projection flashed.

"Did everyone see that? It's that simple. As long as you see the projection start to flash, it means Mew is within a radius of..."

Before he could finish his sentence, Ethan, holding the square block, suddenly froze. Then he was seen looking at the projection, so excited that his body trembled, constantly inhaling and exhaling. Then, he jumped off the stage, grabbed Ryan again, and gave him another brutal beating.

After beating him for a full half-minute, Ethan finally walked back onto the stage, refreshed, and spread his hands, addressing the crowd below.

"Everyone, now you believe what I just said, that Mew is inside, right?"

The people below glanced at Ryan, who had been beaten to a pulp, then cheered: "We believe!"

"Very good, before we start, let me tell you about the reward the president has set for this operation."

Ethan took out his phone from his pocket.

"As long as Mew is successfully captured this time, everyone will be rewarded with twenty thousand. And during the search process, whoever discovers Mew's traces will be rewarded with one hundred thousand. During the capture process, the successful captor will be rewarded with one million. The president has already transferred the money to my phone, and after the capture is over, I will distribute this money to each of you brothers. I will not go back on my word. So, I just have one question for you brothers, do you have confidence?"

"Yes, yes, yes!!!"

Hearing about the money reward, the members below immediately perked up.

"Very good, now everyone go and collect your Pokémon detectors."

With a wave of his hand, having given all his instructions, Ethan, with an excited expression, rushed into the cave holding the still-flashing Pokémon detector.

Meanwhile, on the wing of the helicopter, Jack, who had witnessed all of this, was now muttering to himself.

"325 people, twenty thousand each, that's 6.5 million. Plus one hundred thousand each for those who discover traces, that number fluctuates, so I'll estimate he budgeted 500,000 for that. And another 1 million for the successful captor. That means that guy has at least 8 million on him! Holy cow! Throwing out at least 8 million as a reward for one operation, how is this Blue and White Society president so rich?"

Jack's heart began to stir. Eight million! If he could win all that money back... Thinking of this, Jack flapped his wings and flew back into the forest.
