I had barely finished adjusting my hair, still thinking about how to get closer to the Queen in just under twenty-four hours, when Mum's voice called from across the boutique.
"Seraphina, come here! I've picked out some new gowns for you to try."
I smoothed my skirts and glided over to her, keeping my posture perfect, though my heart was racing. The boutique smelled faintly of lavender and polished wood, and the golden chandeliers scattered warm light across rows of delicate fabrics.
Lavender—my second favorite flower after roses.
"Your Majesty," I said, inclining my head slightly as I noticed the Queen had returned, standing quietly near a display. She gave a soft nod, her expression patient and approachable.
"Lady Seraphina," she said warmly, "please don't be on edge. Soon, we will all be family. There is no need for formalities beyond what pleases you."
