Chapter 35 - Sleep

The dining hall was far too large for one person to eat in without feeling judged by the furniture. Every chair seemed to stare at me disapprovingly, as if whispering, You're sitting in the wrong spot.

Lila guided me to what she assured me was the correct seat—apparently the Crown Princess didn't just sit anywhere unless she wanted to trigger political confusion. Wonderful.

Huge windows lined the walls, the moon floating in them like a nosy ornament. The table was covered in dishes ranging from roasted pheasant to soups so fancy they sparkled. I wasn't sure if that was magic or glitter.

"This place is ridiculous," I muttered.

Lila coughed delicately. "It is… grand, Your Highness."

Nero chimed in immediately.

[Grand? Host, half these dishes look like they cost more than your medical bills from your past life.]

I stabbed a piece of roasted vegetable. Those bills? Absolutely possible.
