Chapter 41 - CHAPTER 41

You must be Kakashi-senpai,"

"Did you also come to visit Brother Tobi?"

After Qianye finished paying respects at the grave, he walked toward Kakashi.

Because of his position in the ANBU, Kakashi normally shouldn't speak too freely with a clan head especially an Uchiha.

But considering the boy's connection to Obito, Kakashi eventually replied quietly, "Yes."

Qianye gazed into the distance and said casually, "Actually, I've almost forgotten what Brother Tobi used to look like, but the elders told me that when I was small, he spoiled me a lot and often handed me the snacks he carefully saved."

"In addition, he always talked about a girl he truly liked Rin and also mentioned someone who was both his rival and his friend, someone he wanted to surpass no matter what…"

"Even though I was too young to understand anything back then, Brother Tobi still told me the same stories over and over."

Kakashi felt a wave of shame wash over him.

He realized that Qianye knew more heartfelt things about Obito than he ever had.

Otherwise

He would have known Obito once had a younger clan brother he cared for deeply.

"That Sharingan eye is with Brother Tobi…"

Qianye suddenly lifted his gaze toward Kakashi's covered left eye.

Kakashi reached up, touching the forehead protector covering it, and nodded silently.

"Brother Obito gave you that eye before he died, which means the bond between you two must have been truly precious!"

Qianye said gently with a small smile.

Kakashi's expression dimmed.

A "bond"… was it really that beautiful?

He only remembered that shortly before Obito's death, the two of them were still arguing fiercely over whether a shinobi should prioritize the mission or rescue his comrades…

Remembering it now,

the guilt in Kakashi's heart deepened even further.

Qianye had been subtly watching Kakashi's expression, and seeing the moment was right, he suddenly said, "By the way, Kakashi-senpai, could you help me with something?"

Before this moment, Kakashi would have refused instantly.

After all, he served within the Hokage's ANBU, and becoming too close to anyone from the Uchiha much less accepting a request would have been unthinkable.

But right now

Perhaps it was because of Qianye's connection with Obito,

Or because of the guilt still gripping his chest,

Or maybe both.

After a brief hesitation, he said, "Tell me what it is."

Qianye said, "Kakashi-senpai, you should already know about the new academy being built inside the clan grounds, and I want to ask you to serve as an instructor there, teaching the children Lightning Release ninjutsu."

Kakashi's expression shifted; clearly, he hadn't expected Qianye's request!

Even though his first impression of Qianye wasn't bad, he still said gravely, "You know my position. Even if I agreed, Lord Third would never approve it!"

Qianye smiled. "That's not certain. Personally, I think the likelihood of the Third accepting is quite high."

Kakashi frowned.

He couldn't understand why Qianye had such unshakable confidence.

He continued, "Fine. Let's assume Lord Third approves. I still have another question."

Qianye said, "Go ahead."

Kakashi replied, "You graduated from the Academy too, so you should know children there only learn basic ninjutsu. But asking them to learn advanced Lightning Release something already involving nature transformation—isn't that far too early?"

After all, if a student could refine chakra properly before graduation, that was already considered excellent.

Yet Qianye wanted them to begin training in techniques requiring nature transformation while still Academy-aged!?

Wasn't this too rushed?

Or… was he preparing for a future conflict?

Qianye asked in return, "Too early? What moment in this world isn't early? Isn't it even earlier to die before learning anything at all?"

"In just over fifty years since Konoha was founded, the shinobi world has already seen three Great Ninja Wars. That alone proves how unstable this world is!"

"To survive in such chaos, strength is absolutely necessary!"

"I don't care what others think. The reason I'm opening a new academy is to teach the children of my clan how to live longer in this dangerous world…"

"Kakashi-senpai, you know better than anyone that this peace is temporary. War is the true background of our world!"

"I don't know when the next one will begin. It could be tomorrow…"

"And what I'm doing now is making sure those children are strong before the next crisis arrives!"

Kakashi was shaken!!

His heart surged like a storm!!

Ever since the end of the Third Shinobi War,

He had grown dull… numb…

To the point he forgot

Peace was only temporary.

And war was the true color of their era!!

When Kakashi looked at Qianye again, his eyes had changed.

This kid clearly just a youngster who had never experienced war yet he understood its essence better than he did!?

Truly not someone to underestimate!

After a long moment of silence, Kakashi finally said, "I will report this to Lord Third. If he approves, I will go to your clan's academy as an instructor."

And silently, he added in his heart: Even if it is a way to repay Obito…

Qianye's eyes brightened, and he quickly said, "Thank you, Kakashi-senpai."

...

Not long after the two departed, space suddenly twisted, and a black-cloaked figure wearing a tiger-patterned mask stepped out.

He watched Kakashi's retreating silhouette and snorted coldly. "The genius of the past… now even his mind has dulled? To think he was fooled by that brat with such a small trick!!"

Then his gaze shifted toward where Qianye had stood, and his eyes grew colder. "I didn't expect that after being 'dead' for so many years, I would be used by a little ghost today. In a sense… it's almost amusing…"
