Inside the office,
After listening to the teachers' reports from the first day, Thousand Nights gave a few concise closing remarks, reminded everyone about the curriculum adjustments for the week, and then dismissed the meeting.
No sooner had they stepped out of the conference room than Kakashi grabbed Might Guy by the shoulder and dragged him aside. Narrowing his visible eye, he demanded, "Explain. What is going on here? How in the world did you end up teaching at this place?"
Might Guy folded his arms and replied seriously, "I was about to ask you the same thing, Kakashi! Why are you here?"
Kakashi sighed. "Just answer my question first."
Might Guy nodded. "All right, all right. Here's what happened."
"A few days ago, Thousand Nights approached me and said he wanted me to join this new Academy as an instructor."
"I refused immediately, of course! I told him my own training wasn't complete, that my youthful spirit still had room to grow, and that I wasn't qualified to guide the next generation yet."
"But he didn't give up. He kept coming back every day morning, noon, and night always talking about the 'future of Konoha' and how Taijutsu fundamentals were important."
"Eventually he proposed a wager. He said: 'Give me a condition. If I meet that condition, you agree to teach. If I fail, I'll never bother you again.'"
Guy clenched his fist proudly. "And I thought it was genius! So I agreed."
Kakashi pinched his forehead. "Let me guess. You set a condition that depended on me, didn't you?"
Guy nodded vigorously. "Exactly! I told him: 'If Kakashi agrees to be a teacher at this Academy, I'll come too!' I figured you, being part of the ANBU and constantly drowning in missions for the Third Hokage, could never possibly accept such a role. So naturally, Thousand Nights would lose!"
Kakashi stared at him. "You… really thought that was clever?"
Guy puffed out his chest. "I thought it was perfect! I never expected you to actually show up here!"
If he'd known this would happen, he would have chosen something impossible like "Beat me in a 10,000-lap race around the village carrying boulders."
Kakashi suddenly remembered something and asked, "Speaking of the Third Hokage… did Sandaime-sama say anything to you? Did he object to you joining this school?"
Guy shook his head. "No. He simply told me, 'Do your best.'"
Kakashi fell silent for a second… then he understood.
Of course the Third wouldn't oppose Guy's involvement. Guy's straightforward nature and blazing honesty made him one of the least suspicious shinobi in the village. He was perfect for keeping watch without realizing he was keeping watch.
But even so, Kakashi didn't want Guy tangled in the deeper matters surrounding Thousand Nights, the Uchiha children, and this special Academy.
He placed a hand on Guy's shoulder and said quietly, "You should go back. You're not suited to stay here. It's better if you don't get involved."
Guy looked conflicted. "But… Thousand Nights put so much effort into convincing me…"
"If you're too embarrassed to tell him," Kakashi said dryly, "I can help you say it."
Guy blinked. "You'd really do that?"
Kakashi nodded, though his expression remained unreadable beneath his mask.
Deep down, he only wanted to keep his rival his friend out of unnecessary danger.
But with Guy's personality…
Thousand Nights had probably already sealed his fate.
Might Guy nodded firmly. He indeed wanted more time for his own training, and he was just about to speak when
"Mr. Might Guy, you're here."
Uchiha Tetsuhō suddenly approached.
"You are…?"
Guy blinked in confusion, scratching his head.
The corner of Tetsuhō's mouth twitched. "…I am Uchiha Tetsuhō. The one teaching Fire Release."
Five minutes ago, they sat together inside the office.
And Guy already forgot?
If he hadn't seen Guy's genuinely blank expression, he would have suspected the green-jumpsuit, bowl-cut "watermelon head" was messing with him on purpose.
"Oh! Right! Hello! Did you need something from me?"
Guy finally remembered.
"That's right," Tetsuhō said. "I want to take you to meet someone."
Guy hesitated only a moment. "...All right."
Without thinking too deeply, he followed Uchiha Tetsuhō.
...
The two eventually arrived at one of the Uchiha clan's private training grounds.
As soon as Guy stepped in, his eyes were instantly drawn to a small boy training alone.
The boy looked around eight or nine years old. His upper body was bare, and he was balanced on the ground doing push-ups While carrying a massive stone slab nearly as tall as himself strapped across his back.
"335!"
"336!"
"337!"
Each time he pushed upward, his arms trembled, veins bulged, and he grit his teeth fiercely, Then he slowly lowered himself and repeated another rep.
Guy's eyes widened, his heart quivering.
For a moment, he felt like he was looking directly at his younger self—
The boy who was mocked in the Academy for having no talent for ninjutsu, who could only rely on Taijutsu to forge a path.
Suddenly, Guy realized something and gasped. "This boy trains with such passion… don't tell me…"
Uchiha Tetsuhō let out a bitter sigh and nodded. "Yes. My younger brother, Tetsuo… he seems to have no innate talent for ninjutsu or genjutsu at all. His chakra molding is extremely poor. So he can only put everything he has into Taijutsu."
"I brought you here to ask honestly is there any hope for my brother?"
"If you shake your head… I will withdraw him from school immediately. I won't let the clan pressure him. He'll just live peacefully as an ordinary civilian in the future."
"This…"
Guy hesitated.
Every part of him wanted to nod yes, to encourage this boy.
But he also remembered his promise with Kakashi about leaving the Academy.
If he accepted this responsibility now, he wouldn't be able to leave at all…
As Guy struggled internally, several mischievous Uchiha boys strolled toward young Tetsuo and began jeering.
"No matter how much you train, it's pointless!"
"No real shinobi relies on Taijutsu alone. Without ninjutsu, you'll never become anything!"
"It's like someone who can't hit a single note trying to be a singer. Someone with no talent like you is destined to fail as a ninja!"
"..."
Despite the mockery, the little boy continued training. Sweat dripped down his chin, chest heaving, but he still pushed.
"I know… I really don't have talent!"
Tetsuo said through gritted teeth.
"But I believe this even an ordinary person can surpass a genius… if he works harder than anyone else!!"
BOOM!!
Outside the training field, Might Guy's entire body trembled
Thunder roared in his heart!!
This… this was the most burning declaration of determination!!
This was youth!!
As long as one keeps pushing forward, never giving up
Even geniuses can be surpassed!
This little boy…
He carried the exact same fire as Guy himself!
Unable to restrain his emotions any longer, Might Guy vaulted over the railing, rushed to the boy, and scooped him into a tight embrace while tears streamed down his face.
Even if it was just for the sake of this one boy
Guy felt it was worth remaining at this Academy.
Youth must be passed down…
Little Uchiha Tetsuo, suddenly held by a crying, muscular green blur, froze in terror.
Who… is this terrifying watermelon-headed man…?!
...
Outside the training ground,
A sly grin curved the corner of Uchiha Tetsuhō's mouth.
He subtly gestured toward a patch of grass not far away—someone was clearly hiding there.
Perhaps this entire situation…
Had been planned all along.
