Chapter 80 - Chapter 79 - Wall of Ice

On top of the Wall.

A white mist escaped from Daenerys's mouth as her eyes stared at the vastness of the land below her. Instead of a hell, which many thought lay Beyond the Wall, she found it to be quite normal, like any other place. However, when seen from above, even the most common place became extraordinary.

Looking at the forest, Daenerys frowned and spoke in a calm tone. "This forest is a problem; if we are attacked, we won't know how many enemies are hiding in it."

Cadmus, who was beside her, also looked at the forest with a deep gaze, but shook his head and spoke in a calm tone: "Yes, but fire is difficult to spread in this place."

Standing on top of the Wall, Cadmus could feel the Wall's repulsion against him, an extremely powerful wizard. It wasn't a simple repulsion; he could even feel a sense of disgust in his heart, as if he deeply disliked the Wall.

Cadmus knew that a spell was changing his perception, making him think that he wouldn't want to cross the Wall.

Daenerys nodded and felt this even more deeply than Cadmus. She tried to use the fire within her, but to her surprise, the world around seemed to fiercely resist the fire element. It was the first time since she awakened her power that she felt such a strong sense of resistance.

Extending her hand, Daenerys tried to control the fire, but she could feel another energy in the air, passing invisibly but profoundly real between her fingers. "Is this divine energy?" She asked with a touch of curiosity.

"Yes and no." Cadmus replied with a smile. Daenerys's senses were more extraordinary than he had previously thought. Not everyone could feel Divine Energy.

"This divine energy is mixed with the energy of nature." Cadmus said with a smile, he looked at the forest and felt dozens of pairs of eyes staring at him.

"Nature's Energy?" Curiosity shone in Daenerys's eyes; she felt that the world was truly vast, there were so many things she didn't know.

"In short, it's just the will of all beings that live in the forests. It's not as volatile as magical energy or as rigid as divine energy; it's a middle ground that some beings use to defend themselves. The Northmen believe they are the Old Gods, but it's just the forest." Cadmus explained in a calm tone.

"Does that mean the entire forest is alive?" Daenerys asked, looking at the forest with a curious gaze, as if expecting some tree to transform into a humanoid creature at any moment.

"Yes." Cadmus replied affirmatively.

The forest was indeed alive, but unlike sentient life, it was a semi-sentient life that only valued self-preservation and nothing more. It had no complex thoughts or even firm will, just the most basic instinct of survival.

"It's the Children of the Forest and the Cold God fighting." Cadmus said, looking at the divine and nature energy in the air; he even felt another divine energy in the air, warmer and brighter. Obviously, it was R'hllor.

Daenerys's eyes shone at his words; she tried to look at the forest, trying to find the legendary Children of the Forest, but there was nothing in her sight, not even a simple animal. "Do you think we can join this war?"

"It's possible, the enemy of our enemy is our friend." Cadmus also wanted this, but the Children of the Forest were not very sociable, which was normal. They were a sentient race that lived in a forest without contact with other races; what social skills would they have?

"By the way, House Targaryen has a strong bond with the Children of the Forest." Cadmus said, looking at Daenerys with a smile.

Daenerys looked confused at Cadmus; she had no idea what her fiancé was talking about. When did House Targaryen have any contact with the Children of the Forest, especially a strong bond? They had been in Westeros for almost three centuries. It might seem like a long time, but it wasn't.

"Brynden Rivers, one of the Great Bastards and son of Aegon IV, became the Three-Eyed Raven of the Children of the Forest; he is still alive today." Cadmus explained with a smile. Seeing her completely incredulous and shocked expression was truly amusing.

"Does he have Dark Sister?" Taking a deep breath, Daenerys calmed her heart and asked with a touch of expectation and a slight tremor. From what she knew, Dark Sister disappeared with Brynden, so knowing that Brynden was still alive, she presumed he had the sword.

"He should." Cadmus replied in a calm tone; he knew that Blackfyre was with the Golden Company in Essos, and Dark Sister was probably in Brynden Rivers's hands.

"We have to find him; this is Dark Sister, one of the two legendary swords of House Targaryen!" Daenerys said with an excited tone. This was a sword of pure Valyrian steel, a true weapon capable of cutting men like butter.

"He will probably contact us; we just have to wait." Cadmus looked at the forest and, noticing the dozens of pairs of eyes retreating, he showed a smile.

"My family certainly has very long-lived elders." Daenerys said with an emotional tone. Aemon having lived for a hundred years was already shocking; Brynden, who was about one hundred and twenty-three years old, was even more shocking.

"I wouldn't say that the state he is in can be called life." Cadmus commented in a calm tone. Being trapped in a tree certainly couldn't be called life in his eyes. It was more of a prison than actually living.

Daenerys looked at him, but didn't ask the reason for his words; she just presumed that her ancestor's life was difficult. After all, he was in enemy territory fighting for who knows how many decades. As Cadmus had said, that really wasn't a life.

"I'll ask great-uncle." Knowing that Brynden was alive, Daenerys wanted to ask Aemon many things about the famous bloodraven. If there was anyone alive who could tell well who Brynden Rivers was, it was Aemon Targaryen, son of Maekar I Targaryen.

Cadmus nodded and held Daenerys's hand; at the same moment, he apparated below the Wall.

Feeling her feet touch the firm ground again, Daenerys commented with a touch of resentment. "I really detest traveling this way."

"I'll try to optimize the spell or create a new one." Cadmus said with a touch of helplessness; Apparating was uncomfortable, no one doubted that. The only advantage was that it was fast; apart from that, the magic was dangerous, uncomfortable, and extremely volatile.

"I'm eagerly awaiting it." Daenerys said sincerely; she really detested feeling like she was being stuffed into a tube and all parts of her body screaming in discomfort.

Looking around, Daenerys realized she was in the courtyard; she could see the recruits training, and from what she could see, they were indeed recruits, as she could tell they had never trained with a sword before.

Although she had never trained before either, she had seen the best knights of the Seven Kingdoms training daily, the Kingsguard, so she had more knowledge than other people. In her eyes, everyone was a novice and didn't even know the most basic stance.

Honestly, this only made her realize how deplorable the Night's Watch was. An order of such prestigious warriors was now nothing more than a rabble of murderers, rapists, and thieves.

Taking Cadmus's hand, Daenerys didn't mind the men's stares and pulled her fiancé towards Maester Aemon's quarters.

"By the way, did you tell Maester Aemon about the Order of Maesters and the Faith of the Seven?" Cadmus asked in a calm tone. Daenerys's steps paused for a moment, but soon returned to normal; she just shook her head.

Cadmus could understand why Daenerys didn't talk about the poisoning events; after all, if the Faith of the Seven managed to poison the queens, they would have needed the help of the Maesters. As for thinking that the Maesters knew nothing, that was pure nonsense.

To say that one of the world's organizations knew nothing about poison was pure stupidity. The Faith of the Seven would not have been able to poison the queens without the help of the Maesters to hide the symptoms.

To tell Aemon that he participated in the organization that killed many members of House Targaryen was terrible; it could really make the old Maester die of depression, especially given how much he valued his family.
