Chapter 391 - Return to Terra

After completing the final verification of all systems, Osiris stood in front of the main control console of the "Eternal Quest of Knowledge" biological laboratory.

The multi-screen displays simultaneously show real-time data streams transmitted from the suspended research station: the lake water temperature gradient curve fluctuates smoothly, the chemical composition analysis charts are updated regularly, the microbial community distribution heatmap changes continuously, and the newly activated Genesis Particle radiation intensity reading remains stable at the preset value.

"Advanced Life Guidance Experiment, initiated."

The moment the command was given, the deployment unit at the bottom of the suspended research station began to operate smoothly.

An invisible stream of primordial particles continuously flows into the shimmering lake below at a precisely controlled rate, like a meticulously designed irrigation.

At the same time, a new round of round-the-clock monitoring was launched by the sensor network deployed throughout the lake, beginning to record every subtle change that might occur in this unique ecosystem.

The levitation research station continued to operate stably for the next three months.

During this period, Osiris devoted most of his working time to observing the lake's ecosystem. Through the monitoring system of the "Eternal Quest" biological laboratory, he closely monitored the changes in each set of transmitted data.

The micro-release of the Genesis Particles quickly showed the expected results.

Continuous data transmitted from the sensors show that the evolutionary process of life in the lake is showing a clear acceleration trend.

At the end of the second month of the experiment, the high-resolution microscopic observation system captured clear signs of the emergence of multicellular organisms for the first time.

In the initial stage, it is just a simple phenomenon of cell aggregation, and then these cell clusters gradually develop preliminary functional differentiation.

By the middle of the third month, the monitoring system was able to reliably track several established multicellular organism morphologies.

These organisms are still in a rather primitive stage of evolution, small in size and simple in structure, but have already exhibited behavioral characteristics that are completely different from those of single-celled organisms.

Some of these species have developed basic locomotion capabilities, enabling them to move in a direction in the water; others have formed fixed social structures, with clear functional divisions among cells.

With the meticulous attitude characteristic of the Mechanics School, Osiris meticulously recorded every evolutionary node.

He particularly focused on analyzing the response patterns of these primitive multicellular organisms to the radiation of the genesis particles.

By comparing the gene sequence variation data of the experimental group and the control group, he attempted to establish a quantitative model of how the genesis particles affect the development of life forms.

The daily experimental logs accumulated a large number of data charts and evolutionary path analysis reports.

Just as Osiris was focused on data analysis, a light frigate bearing the insignia of the Imperial Navy ended its warp voyage and appeared on the outskirts of the Death World star system.

The ship's identification code indicates that it belongs directly to Holy Terra and, after passing the authorization check of the orbital defense system, was authorized to dock with the "Eternal Quest".

After the docking procedure was completed, a messenger dressed in the uniform of an Imperial official stepped onto the bridge, guided by a Mechanicus attendant.

The golden eagle emblem on his epaulets indicated that he possessed special authority with direct access to the highest levels of imperial power.

The messenger gave Osiris a standardized imperial military salute, his posture respectful yet imposing.

"Magos Osiris," the messenger's voice maintained a formal, official tone, "I have come on the orders of Primarch Rogue Dorn to deliver the recall order. The Imperial Fist Geneseed Restoration Project has entered a critical phase and requires your immediate return to Holy Terra to oversee it personally."

The messenger presented a sealed data plate with both hands, clearly bearing the mark of Rogal Dorn.

Osiris took the data panel, and the mechanical tentacles quickly read the encrypted content.

The document details the latest developments in the project: Magos Alvaro Wies encountered an unexpected technical bottleneck while implementing the repair plan, and several of the modified Expeditionary Force soldiers experienced severe rejection reactions.

The synergistic efficiency between the gene seed and the replanted organ was far lower than expected, and the project's continued progress depends on Osiris' personal guidance.

The accompanying medical report on the data panel further revealed that the rejection reaction was mainly concentrated in tissue necrosis at the neural junctions and endocrine system dysfunction.

These clinical symptoms deviate significantly from the theoretical model initially established by Osiris, indicating that the soldiers' physiological systems under the long-term absence of gene seeds have undergone deeper adaptive changes.

The messenger remained standing, patiently waiting for Osiris to finish reviewing all the documents, before adding, "The Primarch has emphasized that this matter concerns the future of the Imperial Fists, and hopes that you can set off as soon as possible."

Osiris' processor quickly assessed the priorities of the various tasks at hand. While the Genesis Particle Experiment was important, it had entered a relatively stable observation period; however, the emergency situation that had arisen in the Gene Seed Repair Project truly required his personal attention.

"Tell the Primarch Dorne that I will arrange the return journey immediately," Osiris gave a clear answer.

The messenger bowed again and quietly left the bridge, accompanied by his attendants.

Osiris immediately began arranging follow-up work.

He first summoned the apprentices in charge of the biological experiments and instructed them to switch the lake experiment to observation mode, suspend the continuous release of the Genesis Particles, but keep all monitoring systems running at full power.

The apprentices were required to move into the suspended research station to continue routine observations and data recording, with a focus on the evolutionary trends of multicellular organisms.

Subsequently, Osiris temporarily transferred the daily management authority of the Death World base to Sekhmet.

Marshal Anvil-7 of the Guardians and Company Commander Hector of the Black Templars will continue to jointly oversee base defenses, ensuring the base's normal operation and security during his absence.

After completing these arrangements, Osiris walked to the bridge command post.

"Set course, Holy Terra." He gave the order to the shipboard Thinker array and notified the navigators on board: "Activate hybrid navigation mode. Use conventional navigation in stable Immaterium areas and activate warp drive jumps in storm zones."

As a Crescent-class ship, the Eternal Quest retains its warp engine for long-distance voyages, and naturally also needs to be equipped with a navigator and a navigation spire.

Because of the Navigator Clan's aversion to warp drives, the navigators of the Eternal Quest were sent by the Verestana Clan.

The engines of the "Eternal Quest" began to warm up, and the hull vibrated slightly.

After determining its course, the research vessel slowly departed from the Death World orbit, first activating its warp engines, tearing open a magnificent yet dangerous warp rift at the bow.

When a ship detects a difficult-to-cross warp storm in its path ahead, it will temporarily leave the warp, activate its warp drive to perform a short jump in the physical universe, bypass the storm zone, and then re-enter the warp.

Osiris' mechanical body stood still on the bridge, his optical lens watching the changing light ahead as the ship sailed toward the central world of the human empire.
