"Damn it!"
Claire stomps her fists against the see-through vessel. At the same time, he senses something happens to his physical body.
"Hm?. I feel like my body just heats up." He ponders. "What did you just do?"
"Can't you see?! I am so stressed out and venting my frustrations on this stupid barrier!"
"But, seriously. I actually feel like you just did something to my body. My mana suddenly channeled throughout my body and then my body glowed like a lamp. I did nothing. It's definitely your work."
Claire does not want to listen to him as she believes he is playing with her again. She does not take mind of him for some time and stomps her fists again.
"There it is again."
His words reach her ears but her mind is too full to process them. Once she absorbs his words and tries to understand them, her guts are telling her that he is actually serious. She then raises her head and looks at him with a sliver of hope in her eyes while pressing her palms on the soul vessel.
"Hold on... Why is the soul vessel not rejecting me? It should have blasted me away the moment I touched it."
"It blasts you away? Perhaps I am not currently rejecting you anymore.
"That may be the case. When you said that you felt your body heating up, it coincidentally timed with the moment I wanted to vent my anger. At that time, I might have cast magic out of rage. Since I am in contact with the soul vessel, my magic might have been transferred to your body, used up your mana, and subconsciously cast it outside."
"That's why. So it's like a remote access trojan."
"?"
Claire raises her brow hearing his strange response. She feels like she is listening to his language again. This time, she can directly translate it, but she does not understand what it means.
"Well, like I said, I gained connection to your physical body through the soul vessel. Magic doesn't work here since there is no access to mana, except through the soul vessel. So in short, whatever I cast here will be directed to your body as long as I get a hold of this."
"I see. I'm impressed that there is this kind of mechanics in this world. Can you do it again? This time, do something that can heal my body. There's no way I can let your fellow humans butcher my helpless body."
"Actually, they are not my allies. In fact, they are going to kill me."
"That's why you seemed injured earlier. But can you do healing magic, though?"
"I can." Claire sighs for a moment before she continues. "Since there's not much time left for me, I want to make a request before my time comes."
"A last wish, huh? So what is it?"
"I want you to finish those bastards for me. I will guide you and use magic if needed."
"That's it? If you were stronger than them, then that would be easy. I was holding back not to destroy your body when I was fighting you after all."
"..."
Claire is a bit annoyed with his arrogance even though his claims are true. The only time he used magic was when he destroyed her Frozen Meteor. He could have ended the fight almost instantly if he wanted to. That would probably be the outcome if he were to fight her pursuers.
"Will you heal me or not?"
"...Fine. I am only doing this because I want them to pay for what they have done to me, not to save your ass."
"Whatever, just do it."
"But before I do it, can you tell me your name if you have one?"
"...A name."
Naturally, he has a name in his previous world, a full name in fact. Now that he thinks about it, he has never thought of the concept of name upon coming to this world.
For him, using the same name in this world is not a great option as it would be dangerous for some reasons. He does not know how powerful the inhabitants of this world are, so he can assume the worst that there would be someone who can jump between worlds— a multiversal threat.
If he ever made an enemy of someone like them, they could track his origin and threaten his family back there. Even with the affects of his awakening, he still holds attachment for his loved ones on Earth. He concludes that naming himself the same name is not an option.
Other than safety concerns, him using his previous name is kind of cringe, at least for him. He actually does not hate his name, but he rather make a new one for his personal convenience.
For that reason, he decides to use one of his game names as his official name in this world.
"You are Claire, right. Let me introduce myself. My name is Azrael Demiurge. You can just call me Azrael."
He has been a fan of theology and mythology for long. He is fascinated by stories and lore around the world, especially with angels, demons, and deities. For him, they sound kind of badass.
His new identity, Azrael Demiurge, is derived from two different entities. Azrael, the personification of death in Abrahamism, and Demiurge, a malevolent deity in Gnosticism. Together, they create a cool IGN for him to use.
"Azrael Demiurge... That's an unusual name. It's a pleasure to know you. I will now proceed healing you."
With her palms placed on the soul vessel, Claire uses Full Restoration, a high-tier holy magic, which is then cast upon the gryphon's body.
◆◇◆◇◆◇
Along the lightless hallway, a body of a gryphon is lying on the hot floor. Its breathing is very faint and slow. It is unconscious, but not dead.
It has been down for a few minutes after fighting a powerful mage, whom it killed in the end. It was its mistake for not doing its all as well as underestimating its opponent.
Suddenly, within the darkness, the gryphon's body glows a pale light throughout its body. It lasts for only a few seconds, but its impact is massive to the body.
When the light fades, the talons of the monster jolt. Soon after, its breathing gradually stabilizes and its body metabolism starts up anew. The air then gushes out of its nostrils and its eyes finally open in a slow manner, revealing its sharp avian gazes.
Once its body starts operating again, the gryphon immediately activates all of its senses: its night-vision, radar, and more. Afterwards, the gryphon moves its limbs to stand up before it stretches its wings and flaps it once, creating a gust of wind around it.
Whoosh.
The once near-dead monster with the new name of Azrael Demiurge has returned to life with a blast.
