Chapter 10 - Challenge under the tree

In the shadow of fire, two figures sat opposite each other, one cold and distant, the other sharp and cunning , the beginning of a fragile alliance but burning with the seeds of danger.

On the other end of the connection, Specter still waiting for news, Noir's message softly echoing after a moment of silence.

"I met him."

His heart raced, but he replied briefly.

"Copy. But be careful."

Orion finally spoke about his experiences in the Void, while Noir silently waited with her arms crossed.

"Those scientists injected all sorts of things into me, electrocuted me until I was smoking. But they failed in several implant surgeries, so I was labeled a failed model. Before that, they still valued me for hundreds of pursuit missions..."

"But since I was trash, they just pushed me aside. That day, maybe they have to remove all my memories and my abilities, but suddenly the headquarters sounded a loud alarm, that a product was escaping. But after someone rushed in, removed the equipment from my body, told me to run away from this place, and said he would help me clear all the data."

"But you know what? That person who I hated most in this world. So guess what..." *looks at Noir*

She raised her eyebrows.

"Ugh, talking to you is so boring... It's my dad."

"Your dad?" Noir asked in surprise.

"Uh huh, that stupid man was the one who trapped me in the lab. He was also one of the researchers of VOID, but then he let me go. Later, I heard he was killed and his body was never found!" *leaning back, puts his feet up on the table*

"They were so busy searching for that guy, so they forgot all about me.That's why I've been able to take my time until now."

Noir felt something coincidental here and carefully probed.

"When the siren went off, did you hear the name of the person who escaped?"

"Hmm... let's see, if I'm not mistaken, it was something like Speck... eh, Specter." *Orion scratched his head*

"So, when your father was killed, was he too regretful to continue, so he wanted to stop, but the organization wouldn't allow it? Right?"

Orion looked at Noir in surprise.

"Very good two colors. You know a lot."

At that moment, Noir also confirmed that he and Specter had escaped at the same time.

/What a coincidence./

"I met Specter again, and now that I'm here, I realize how much you two have in common. I'm sure you know each other."

Orion sat back down, straightened his back, and widened his eyes.

"No way, he's still alive? So you found an ally before coming to me?"

Noir neither denying nor confirming.

"Oh dears, meeting an old friend must be quite pleasant!" *arms crossed*

"What do you mean? Are you agreeing to follow me?" Noir asked.

"Nah...Calm down." *Orion stood up*

He decisively stepped out the door, and Noir also decided to go outside to see what was happening. Noir followed Orion out of the wooden house, deep into the wild mountain forest in the distance. The moon peeked through the treetops, its light flickering like watchful eyes.

Suddenly, he stopped.

"If you want me to accompany you..." Orion said, his voice hoarse and deep.

"Then prove it . I don't tag along with weaklings, got it? Two colors?"

Noir only drew her knife, her blue-red eyes flashing in the night.

His shadow lunged forward, swift and precise like a starving panther hunting its meal. The long knife swung through the darkness, its sound sending shivers down the spine. Noir spun, her blade meeting his at the exact point, sparks flying between steel and steel. Far away, Specter listened intently to the sound of tension. He hoped everything would be fine.

In the forest, Orion attacked relentlessly, his movements vicious and murderous. But Noir remained calm, her blue eyes reading the blade's path before it reached her, her red eyes blazing as she counterattacked, each strike precise and chilling.

After a while of fighting without a winner, Noir had to close in on him. Her kick sent Orion reeling backward, his back hitting a tree trunk. Noir's knife was close to his neck, her two-colored eyes glowing brightly under the moonlight, fixed on the controlled Orion.

The air was heavy. But instead of anger, Orion laughed.

"Well well... you truly are the successful version. You're not only strong... but also so ruthless."

Noir didn't move, the knife still pressed against him.

"Shut up. I only hope you'll be part of bringing freedom to those individuals who are being held captive."

Orion paused for a few seconds, then threw the knife to the ground and raised his hands high.

"Ok ok, fine. You win. From now on, I'll follow your plan."

"I haven't been moved much since I left, so let's play a new game."

Noir stepped back, but her face still showed no emotion. Orion wasn't a simple man, even though he appeared submissive, she still had to be careful.

On the other end of the line, Specter clenched his fist slightly. He heard Noir's brief voice.

"Done. I'll stay here for a day."

Specter closed his eyes, a flash of jealousy and worry passing through his mind. Noir was too strong to need anyone's protection, but also too distant for him to reach.

In the forest, Orion picked up his knife, tilting his head in confusion.

"Who are you talking to?"

"Specter." Noir replied curtly.

"Ehh, Bro. How..." *Orion said loudly*

"Shut your mouth!" *Noir turned*

"Tsk. Listen, two color, you have eyes that make anyone tremble... but they also prevent people from truly standing by your side." *frowning, voice annoyed*

Noir turned away, her voice firm.

"They just need to stand in the right place."

"Oh and my name is Noir, not two color."

"But hey, I'll tell you this too, I only agreed to be your partner because I was bored, just to go rescue people!" *Orion called after her*

"Hey... did you hear me? Noir two color! Heyyy..."

The forest wind whistled, carrying the sound of metal hitting the ground.
