The true origins of the young Urek are known only to a handful of people. Everyone believes him to be the Governor's legitimate son, but nothing could be further from the truth. Despite numerous attempts to produce an heir for his court, Governor Garnus was incapable. Whether with his wife, whom he loved tenderly, or with his multiple concubines, nothing worked; no offspring appeared.
Then, one day, as he slept, he had a most peculiar dream. He found himself on a large bed, and a woman of supernatural beauty approached him. She had golden hair, pale, soft skin, and two eyes of a deep violet. She straddled him and asked in an enchanting voice, "What is it you desire?"
The Governor, mesmerized, replied, "I want a son. An heir."
She looked at him with deceptive tenderness, and then they gave themselves to each other with devouring savagery and passion.
In the morning, the Governor woke up alone in his bed, as if nothing had happened.
For a long time, he wondered if it had been a dream or reality. Another night, as he slept beside his wife, the same dream occurred again. The same woman met him, and once more, their union was marked by a burning passion. The days passed, and the Governor stopped summoning his wife and concubines to his quarters.
Then, one day, in the sixth year, on the sixth month, and the sixth day, a baby appeared in the Governor's bed upon his waking. It was a miracle after years of waiting: his son, "Urek," was born.
Throughout the Governor's inner circle, everyone wondered who this child was, where he had come from, and which woman the Governor had fathered him with, since neither his wife nor his concubines had borne any progeny for years.
The Governor's wife, humiliated and furious, walked with determination to the throne room. The doors opened upon her arrival. Before her, the Governor was playing with his son. She looked at the child with hatred and demanded, "Who is the mother of this thing?"
The Governor looked up at her and said nothing, then continued playing with the baby. His wife lost her patience and screamed, "Answer me, damn you! For years, I respected your wishes, I myself wanted to give you an heir, but nothing happened. And then this thing appears!"
The Governor interrupted her, his voice icy, "He is not a thing. This is my son and my heir. Anyone who wishes him harm will be condemned to death." He snapped his fingers. Guards seized his wife and all his concubines. They were hanged summarily. His wife died last, cursing him and prophesying, "This thing will be your downfall."
In the years that followed, everything seemed to proceed wonderfully. The child grew up, pampered and protected. But during his adolescence, Urek's true nature began to reveal itself, making the Governor's court tremble. His debauchery, his excesses, and his cruelty soon spread like wildfire through all the spires of the planet. The prophecy of the scorned wife began to take on a sinister significance.
