Chapter 17 - A Special Contract

Chen Wenhan quickly spread the word.

"Sigh… three million didn't even sway him."

"That's normal. Old Zheng's annual royalty was over twenty million back in the day. Can Lin Yu even be satisfied with three million?"

"What royalty rate should we give him? His name is new, but his skill is definitely top-tier. If the royalty rate is too low, he'll probably just be gone."

Publishing houses were all discussing amongst themselves.

Nowadays, e-books were everywhere, and physical books weren't selling as well.

But fairy tale books were still doing okay. Parents didn't want to use phones or tablets to tell their kids stories.

Many publishing houses were eager to compete in this market.

Tongxin Net's conference room.

"Boss, we have our own publishing house, and after all these years of development, we're not weak either."

"We can absolutely compete!"

Chen Wenhan said.

Tongxin Net's boss, Liang Zhirong, said, "Old Chen, even though I founded Tongxin Net, I don't know much about fairy tales. From a professional perspective, is it worth it?"

"Competing for this might strain our relationships with some publishers."

Chen Wenhan said, "Lin Yu's fairy tales are absolutely top-notch. Even if we pay a high price and take a short-term loss, we can make a big profit in the long run."

"As long as he can write thirty stories like these every year, he'll be unstoppable. His position will be unshakeable."

"In a market like this, we can't afford to be sentimental. We shouldn't give up on this opportunity."

Another editor said, "Chen, you make a good point, but what if this is all Lin Yu has?"

"Thirty Xiancao-quality fairy tales in a year? You're giving him too much credit."

"If he can keep it up, it's worth whatever it takes. His fame will only grow, and fame equals traffic, which equals money."

"But if he can't write any more good stories, it wouldn't be worth the high price we pay to get him."

Everyone chimed in.

The boss, Liang Zhirong, listened carefully to their opinions.

"I understand what you're saying."

"If Lin Yu can keep flying, we fly with him; if he can't, we'll just end up eating dirt," Liang Zhirong said.

Chen Wenhan and the others nodded in agreement.

Liang Zhirong said, "Old Chen, contact Lin Yu and ask if he's willing to sign a special contract with us. For the first fifty thousand copies sold, the Royalty Rate will be fifteen percent."

"From fifty thousand to two million copies, it'll be sixteen percent."

"From two million to five million copies, seventeen percent. And if all his books accumulate over five million copies, I'll give him eighteen percent!"

Chen Wenhan looked at his boss in surprise.

Normally, fifteen percent was the ceiling.

Eighteen percent would compress their profits quite a bit.

After all, publishing books involved expenses in every aspect. A common author's Royalty Rate of ten percent was already pretty good.

Some were even as low as six or seven percent!

"Aren't you worried he might not be able to write anymore?"

"As long as he can write, he should sign the contract."

Liang Zhirong said.

He could offer such a high Royalty Rate, while others couldn't. He had Tongxin Net, and as Lin Yu got better, Tongxin Net would also grow stronger, which could compensate for the cost.

"Boss, are there any other benefits?"

"I'm just afraid he might not cooperate with us."

Chen Wenhan asked.

Liang Zhirong thought for a moment and said, "We'll offer him the money as soon as the contract is signed for the first print of three hundred thousand copies."

"Boss, isn't printing three hundred thousand copies a bit risky?"

Another editor said.

Liang Zhirong: "You all believe his fairy tales are of good quality. If that's the case, I believe sales will definitely be good."

"Old Chen, tell him that if we reprint it in the future, his Royalty Rate will be transferred to him immediately as soon as we start printing."

Chen Wenhan nodded.

He quickly messaged Lin Chen.

"A contract like this? Interesting."

Lin Chen had a faint smile on his face.

It wasn't bad to cooperate with Tongxin Net; in fact, he was happy to work with them.

"Okay."

Lin Chen quickly replied to Chen Wenhan.

"Boss, Lin Yu agreed!"

Chen Wenhan said with delight.

Liang Zhirong: "Old Chen, this contract is very important. We need to meet with him and sign it offline. Arrange a meeting with him, and I'll go with you."

"Okay."

Chen Wenhan sent a message.

Lin Chen thought for a moment.

Now that his parents were around, he could meet with Chen Wenhan and the others.

"Editor-in-Chief Chen, offline signing is fine."

"But I'll be bringing my child. I can't travel far. Also, I don't want to become famous and affect my child. You can come to sign the contract, but please don't take photos and spread them around."

Lin Chen replied after considering it for a while.

"Taking care of a child?"

"Looks like Lin Yu is still pretty young."

"I agree. Let's get going, we're on a tight schedule."

Liang Zhirong said with a smile.

They weren't in Modu. After buying their tickets, Liang Zhirong and the others quickly headed to Modu, arriving in the afternoon.

"You're the big shot Lin Yu?"

Lin Chen and Chen Wenhan were very shocked when they saw him.

The big shot in their eyes was actually so young.

Lin Chen smiled, "Mr. Liang, Editor Chen, my real name is Lin Chen, you can just call me by my name."

Chen Wenhan and the others all shook hands with Lin Chen.

"Lin Chen, I really didn't expect you to be so young."

Chen Wenhan said with a sigh.

Lin Chen smiled, "Young people have a childlike heart, which gives them an advantage when writing fairy tales."

Chen Wenhan nodded, "That's true. Lin Chen, I'd like to ask, how much time did you spend creating those fairy tales?"

Little master, there's more to this chapter, please click the next page to continue reading, it's even more exciting!

"Less than a month."

"I can write one every day, but I may not be so diligent in the future."

Lin Chen said.

Liang Zhirong and the others were shocked.

Chen Wenhan said in disbelief, "Lin Chen, are you sure it's less than a month? Can you write one a day?"

Lin Chen thought to himself.

He doesn't write one a day.

He can write ten when he has free time while taking care of the child.

"Yes."

Lin Chen nodded.

Liang Zhirong and Chen Wenhan were thrilled. It would be fantastic if Lin Chen could maintain this level of quality for an extended period.

"Lin Chen, if you can write more than thirty fairy tales of the same quality each year, I'll give you a ten thousand bonus for each additional one," Liang Zhirong promised.

Lin Chen chuckled, "Thanks, General Manager Liang."

A ten thousand bonus per piece? That was a sweet deal.

He still had plenty of stock thanks to the system. He could write ten pieces a day, which would net him a hundred thousand in bonuses.

Of course, he wouldn't write so many every day going forward.

That would be too insane.

"Lin Chen, let's sign the contract."

Chen Wenhan said, producing the contract from his bag.

Lin Chen examined it carefully, finding no issues.

He signed his name and his pen name.

Liang Zhirong also signed and affixed the company's seal.

"Mr. Liang, Editor Chen, you've come a long way. Let me treat you to a meal as a gesture of hospitality," Lin Chen said with a smile.

They were currently in a teahouse, with a restaurant next door.

After dinner, Lin Chen hurried home.

"Grandma, when is Dad coming home?"

"Xiaoxi misses Dad."

Outside the door, Lin Chen heard Lin Xiaoxi's voice.

His physique had reached ninety-three points. With the improvement in his physique, Lin Chen realized his hearing had also improved significantly.

"Dad should be back soon."

Lin Chen's mother, Chen Mei, said.

She was a little helpless; Lin Xiaoxi had asked the same question at least twenty times.

Lin Chen quickly opened the door.

"Dad."

"Dad, I miss you so much."

Lin Xiaoxi happily ran towards Lin Chen and hugged his legs.

"Have you been eating well?"

Lin Chen bent down and picked up Lin Xiaoxi.

Lin Xiaoxi said, "Dad, I didn't finish eating. My tummy is full, it's not that Grandma's cooking isn't delicious."
