Chapter 3 - Nightclub Throwdown II

"Stay- ugh.. still!" Melanie grunted furiously as she tried to land even a single hit on Jane.

But no matter how fast or hard she hit, she couldn't land a hit or even move the faunus woman. Her body moved with this unnatural grace and a strange, red afterimage she was sure was her semblance.

"Ugh!" Melanie dove and tried to sweep Jane's legs.

Though that only made Jane jump up and dropkick Melanie in the head before rounding back with a spinning kick to Melanie's jaw. Melanie spun from the force and momentum, her aura flashing from the hit briefly before she yelled in surprise as Jane's tail wrapped around her heel and caused her to trip.

"Ack! Miltia! Help me out!" Melanie shouted as she rolled back and looked at Jane with a scowl.

Miltia, who just took a mean punch from Yang and flew back over three meters grunted.

"A bit busy here, Sis.. I was gonna ask you to help me."

Jane chuckled as she backflipped away from more kicks and stepped into Melanie's guard. Her hand trailing up Melanie's cheek as she swept out her legs. Melanie's face flushed red as she felt Jane's breath hit the shell of her right ear.

"Sorry about this. I'll be veeery gentle~" Jane whispered, both scaring and making the girl's face redden before Jane struck her in the sternum, just hard enough to break the rest of her aura.

Melanie blinked and collapsed onto her rear, looking at Jane, who had started walking away from her with a hypnotic sway to her hips. Melanie stared at her until she collapsed from overexertion.

"Ough!" Miltia grunted in pain as Yang blocked her claw, shot behind her and used the momentum to clothesline the girl and shatter her aura before she hit the ground and slid across the dance floor.

"Woo! Haha! Yeah! Take that, you snooty-Eeeeeeer... I mean.. job done~" Yang stopped gloating as soon as she saw Jane walk over with that sexy, knowing smirk.

"That was quite the situation we found ourselves in. Lucky for us, it's self defense.. sort of." Jane smirked, knowing Junior wasn't quite in the position to charge them.

Given he was a mob boss, he never involved the cops in his business. Then there was the fact that given Yang's status, not even a complaint to Ozpin would get anywhere. Still, she had to admit Yang was pretty reckless. Maybe if she hadn't manhandled Junior's balls and punched that goon into next week, things could have been smoothed over. But what's done is done.

"Uh.. ahem! Miss Jane?" Yang called out, snapping Jane out of her thoughts.

Her tail swayed as she gave Yang an apologetic smile.

"Aw sorry about that~ I got lost in thought, you see."

Yang blushed and cleared her throat. "Nah it's good.. it's all good.. yeah. Uh..... oh! My Mom? You said you had something.."

Jane paused and nodded with a small smirk.

"That, I do. Your picture? That's of Raven Branwen. A rather infamous woman." Jane replied, her previous flirty and seductive vibe replaced with a stoic, serious one.

"Infamous? The only thing I know about her is that she was part of a team with my Dad, Uncle and Summer. Team STRQ. And that she just.. left my family one day." Yang replied, looking anxious.

Jane rubbed her jaw, 'So this is pretty much a canon Yang then. Had to make sure but still.. wouldn't hurt to prod, knowing what I know'

"Hate to break it to you then, but your Mother is a Bandit Queen. Wanted by Mistral, Vale and Atlas. She runs a bandit nation called the 'Branwen Tribe'." Jane informed, watching the dawning realization and subsequent shock on Yang's face.

"Oh my gods... what? Why!? Why Bandits? I just.... Sorry.. this is a lot.." Yang frustratedly dragged her hand through her hair and bit her lip.

"Do you need a break? Or do you want me to stop?" Jane asked gently.

Yang was still an emotional teenager looking for answers from her Mother, after all. Jane wouldn't be so callous with someone like that. Looking at Yang, she knew she would want to know more. And she was proven correct a moment later when Yang steadied her breathing and answered her.

"I'm good. Keep going, please. And maybe explain how you know..? Wait, you're probably a Huntress.. duh.."

Jane hummed in acknowledgement before continuing, "I am indeed." Though true, it wasn't the whole truth. She was indeed a Huntress with a license. But things were more complex than that.

"Anyway, the Branwen tribe history goes back about a hundred or so years. From what I know, the family rose up in the Great war, made a name for themselves and fancied themselves a small nation ruled by a warlord, the Branwen chief. They were huge a decade after the war had ended and the decade long war itself had seen their explosive rise in power." Jane explained as they slowly walked over to the entrance of the club.

"Their chief was an ex slave who had escaped Mistral's city and built a colony out in anima when the war with Vale had triggered. Initially on Vale's side, they harassed Mistral's supply lines and freed slaves coming from Mantle. Life was good, until Mistral sent a subjugation force to wipe them out. Thing is, they failed. They killed the Chief's son and turned him into the warlord who had started the Branwen tribe. After infighting, Grimm, Hollow expansion and just plain bad luck, the tribe had shrunk. Now, it's ruled by one Raven Branwen, who has a few clansmen still under her thumb."

Yang's eyes widened considerably the more she heard. To have such a storied family history was something new to her. Her Uncle, Qrow had never uttered so much as a word to her about this. Though he had taught her and Ruby about the Great War, he mainly focused on Vale and Vacuo as the good guys.

She shook her head and looked at Jane's teal eyes before asking, "So I.. have more family members?"

"Yes. The Branwen clan aren't completely wiped out. So far in the Huntsmen bounty book there's Raven, her Father, her two cousins and Grandfather. Though we're unsure if there's any more or less now. The book hasn't been updated in five years."

Yang took a shuddering breath and clenched her hands. Hearing her Mother had other family members was about as hard as hearing she had a bounty. Maybe it was childish of her but she hoped 'bandit' wasn't as bad as she knew. That maybe her Mother's group were more noble than normal bandit groups. Sadly, that wasn't the case.

"Uncle Qrow never said anything.. always avoided answering about Mom.. unless it was back in their team STRQ days." Yang sighed wistfully.

"I'm sorry, Yang. I wish I could tell you something better." Jane pat her back empathetically.

"No no.. Thank you for telling me. I just need to know.. where can I find her? Do you know? Wait, will you get in trouble for spilling Huntsman secrets to me?" Yang asked, a sense of concern rising in her lilac eyes.

"Oh I'd hardly consider it a secret. It's open information in Mistral. Vale? Not so much. The Branwen barely operate in Vale. They generally travel Anima but oddly enough, whenever a large enough attack force prepares to move on them, they head into Vale or go out to sea. They have a dedicated fleet they stole from Vacuo pirates. But Mistral is generally where they're spotted. Regardless of your status as her child though.. I advise caution. Some members have been reported taking advantage of women.." Jane warned as she rested her hand on Yang's shoulder and looked her in the eyes to convey a sense of caution.

Yang slowly nodded and clenched her jaw.

"Thank you... really. I'm not entirely happy to hear I'm related to bandits but I needed to know at some point. I think my Uncle tried to protect me by not saying anything-" "Yaaaang!" A particularly high pitched girl's voice snapped her out of her thoughts.

Yang looked over to see Ruby jogging over and waving.

"Yang! What're you doing over here? You left me at the Dust shop!" Ruby complained with a pout.

Yang rubbed the back of her neck and smiled apologetically, "Aw sorry sis! I was busy making a friend. This is Ja-ne..?"

Yang gestured-or tried to gesture at Jane, who had suddenly disappeared, leaving her alone with her sister. Yang looked around in confusion before turning to her little sister.

"Rubes you saw her right? A really hot faunus lady with a crazy hip-to-thigh ratio?"

Ruby tilted her head as a phantom chuckle escaped her lips, "Ahh puberty~ It's okay, Yang.. I believe you."

Ruby pat her sister's back sympathetically and shook her head.

"Wh-Ruby, no! She was here! She had the hottest face, pierced ears and-" Yang shook her little sister with a reddening face.

"That feeling when my sister takes her schizo pills and her girlfriend disappears.." Ruby shook her head dramatically and tried her best to comfort Yang despite her protests and swearing Jane was real.

Meanwhile, the faunus girl in question had snuck onto a rooftop nearby and was writing something down in the notepad she kept in her short's back pocket.

"Seems the 'RWBY' side's main cast is the same. But the 'Zenless' side changed the world so much. I'll need to check Blake and Weiss before coming to any conclusion. Ah and it's about time I checked in with Zhu Yuan. I'm sure she'll forgive me for not calling her sooner. As far as she knows I'm solely working on getting into the Mountain Lions' bandit tribe. Ahh~ to have so many responsibilities foisted on me.." Jane leapt off the roof and onto another, her tail swaying.

"It's pretty exciting..~"

[AN: Focus ain't gonna be on Yang so.. any Yang haters? Don't sweat it.]
