"This... the Rotation actually has this much power?!"
As the storm of dust gradually subsided, Hyūga Shinichi stood in the center of the large crater, a look of astonishment on his face as he surveyed the dramatically altered terrain caused by his attack.
He had used the secret technique Rotation (Kaiten) countless times, yet this was the first time he had witnessed such destructive power. Critically... the method of execution had not fundamentally changed; he had only performed it while airborne.
Shinichi didn't know if the previous Hyūga ancestors had conducted such experiments, but the clan's inherited scrolls never mentioned that the Rotation could achieve this transformation.
Unbeknownst to Shinichi, however, no previous Hyūga had ever mastered the Flying Thunder God Technique.
The principle of the Rotation required the user to be rooted to the ground. It would have been impossible for the Hyūga ancestors to perform the technique while airborne, a position with no solid leverage. Only Shinichi, having mastered the Flying Thunder God, could use it to launch himself after accumulating power on the ground.
After a brief moment of stunned silence, Shinichi finally remembered to check on Uchiha Shisui, the target of his attack, with his Byakugan.
However, the figure he had targeted had already vanished. Along with it, five other figures had dissipated. Only the figure of Shisui standing far behind him remained, gazing at Shinichi blankly.
"A trap, huh..."
"Truly worthy of Uchiha Shisui. If this were a real battle, I would have been the one to expose a weakness."
It wasn't until Uchiha Shisui released his Phantom Body Flicker (Kagerō Shūnshin) technique that Shinichi realized he had misidentified the main body. This kind of mistake, whether in training or real combat, was a significant error.
Even a powerhouse like Uchiha Madara was "stabbed in the back" (figuratively) by Senju Hashirama after misidentifying a clone. The Hyūga's Byakugan and the Uchiha's Sharingan were ultimately deficient in distinguishing certain advanced clone techniques.
The Byakugan's progenitor, Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, couldn't see through Naruto's Shadow Clones, and Hyūga Shinichi similarly couldn't fully see through Uchiha Shisui's Phantom Body Flicker. Judging by the feel of the few times Shinichi hit a clone, Shisui's technique must have been a highly evolved version of the Shadow Clone, but unlike the Multi-Shadow Clone technique, Shisui's Jutsu focused on enhancing the capacity of the individual clones.
"Shisui?"
"You're alright!"
As Shisui released the technique, Shibi Aburame, who had been worried about Shisui's safety, rushed up to him, his anxiety finally settling. Shinichi wasn't the only one who had misidentified the original body; even an experienced Jōnin like Shibi Aburame had been fooled.
"Hehe, I'm fine, Captain." Shisui smiled gently, spreading his arms to show he was unharmed.
At the same time, Shinichi and Guy also moved toward Shisui. Shinichi came in front of Shisui and bowed slightly in apology:
"My apologies. I had a poor grasp of that technique's power."
"I should never have used such a Jutsu on a teammate, and I'm grateful that you held back, Brother Shisui."
"I am truly sorry."
Although his technique hadn't actually harmed Shisui, using a Jutsu that he himself couldn't control during a spar was ultimately Shinichi's fault. Shisui remained unharmed because he was strong enough; any other ninja might not have been so lucky. Ultimately, the cause of the training accident was Shinichi's mistake.
"It's fine, it's fine."
"You didn't mean to, and I wasn't hurt. Don't worry about it, Shinichi." Shisui remained gentle as ever. Facing Hyūga Shinichi, who was five years his junior, Shisui was kind and reassuring.
"Let's end the sparring here. Although it felt somewhat anticlimactic, we've all gained a basic understanding of each other."
"As for further coordination, I will request a few simple missions from the Fourth Hokage."
"You should use enemies to test your Ninjutsu next."
Shibi Aburame mediated the situation. In saying this, he also glossed over Shinichi's mistake. He realized that Shinichi severely lacked awareness of his Jutsu's destructive power. Continuing the sparring would only risk further accidents. And critically, Shinichi had mastered the Flying Thunder God.
Even for an experienced veteran like Shibi Aburame, it was difficult to maintain complete control of the situation. For safety reasons, Shibi Aburame announced the end of the spar.
However, for the team members, although the battle was short, they now had a basic understanding of their comrades' abilities.
For a squad, that was sufficient for now. In fact, during wartime, ninjas died every day, and countless squads were broken up and reformed daily. In the frenzy of war, squad members simply didn't have much time to get to know each other. Shinichi's squad was unique in this regard.
After the sparring concluded, the team didn't immediately disband. Shibi Aburame, wanting to strengthen their bonds, invited them all to his home as guests.
Shibi Aburame was the son of the current Aburame Clan Head. His residence was sizable, and after Konoha's re-zoning, the clan compound remained in the central area of Konoha, with bustling streets not far from his home.
The thoughtful Shibi Aburame had prepared gifts for each teammate. He gave Guy a pair of dragon-mouth nunchaku, gave Shinichi a set of custom-fitted, personalized half-armor, and gave Shisui a chakra short sword crafted with a special iron ore.
All recipients were delighted with their gifts. Shisui initially tried to refuse the sword, as it was clearly very expensive, but yielded under Shibi's persistence. The gifts Shibi Aburame gave were a significant investment. Both the nunchaku and Shinichi's special half-armor were not ordinary item. Their deeper value was left for the users to discover on their own.
This was the first time Shinichi had ever received a gift like this since childhood. He expressed his thanks and gladly accepted the armor. After having lunch at the Aburame home, the squad members gradually departed.
Back home, Shinichi immediately tried on the custom armor. The armor was tailored specifically for him, protecting his vital areas without hindering his movement. As Shinichi grew older, the half-armor would not become obsolete; he would only need to replace the straps and reshape the arm guards, bracers, and knee guards.
Standing in front of the mirror in the half-armor, gazing at his reflection, Shinichi truly felt that the battlefield was drawing closer.
In the following days, the squad members frequently gathered. During the time they waited for mission assignments, Shinichi trained tirelessly. However, when training now, Shinichi wore the armor to adapt early to the subtle impact the protective gear had on his body.
However, the day the squad was assigned a mission never came. Instead, his mother, Hyūga Hanako, went into labor first.
December 27th.
Accompanied by the cry of an infant echoing through the Hyūga Main Family compound, Hyūga Shinichi was officially promoted to "Big Brother." Hanako gave birth to a girl, who was named Hyūga Hinata (日向雛田).
The name Hinata is similar to the clan name Hyūga and means "Place in the Sun." This name held the expectation of Hiashi and Hanako, hoping their child would always be protected by the "sun" of the Hyūga.
"Shinichi, from today, you must cherish your little sister!"
"You are the eldest son and the future heir of the Hyūga Clan. This is both your responsibility and your duty."
Inside the room, Shinichi sat beside Hanako's bed, looking at the tiny, wrinkled baby, his face full of smiles. Hiashi gently patted Shinichi's shoulder, softly instructing him.
