After returning to the Village, Hyūga Shinichi immediately resumed his demanding training schedule. The days spent outside on the mission had instilled a strong sense of anxiety in him. The thought of powerful enemies lurking outside while he wasted time on a pointless mission fueled his frustration.
His understanding of this world was far deeper than others. He didn't fear the appearance of strong enemies; he feared not having the strength to cope when those enemies did appear.
The reason Shinichi trained so hard now was to ensure that when a powerful enemy finally arrived, he would not regret his past laziness. Pushing himself to the limit, even if he were killed by an enemy in a future war, Shinichi wouldn't feel regret.
I tried my best, and that is enough...
Konoha Training Ground Three.
Hyūga Shinichi and Might Guy were currently sparring. If there was one positive thing that came out of forming the squad, it was the change in Shinichi's usual sparring partners. Within the Hyūga Clan, his opponents were always fellow clan members. Their Taijutsu was entirely built upon the foundation of the Gentle Fist.
Even with rotating opponents, their fighting style was largely predictable.
However, since meeting Might Guy, Shinichi's opponents had changed. Might Guy was the typical "Hard Fist" user; his moves were wide, open, and full of immense kinetic force.
Although he held back his strength when fighting Shinichi, his moves were fundamentally different from the Hyūga's Taijutsu. Fighting Guy gave Shinichi a sense of novelty. Guy's Taijutsu was highly ranked in all of Konoha.
Even counting bloodline clans like the Hyūga, the number of ninjas superior to Guy in Taijutsu was few. During his sparring sessions with Guy, Shinichi was also learning some of Guy's combat strategies.
"Pang!!"
A dull thud echoed in the training ground. Guy lunged forward and struck Shinichi's calf with a low sweep-kick. The moment Shinichi lost his balance, Guy swiftly delivered a hand-knife aimed at Shinichi's waist. Seeing Guy's hand-knife about to strike his abdomen, Shinichi instantly activated the Flying Thunder God, vanishing from his spot.
The moment his figure reappeared a few meters away, the kinetic force from Guy's kick still affected him. Shinichi tumbled several times on the grass before finally managing to stop his body.
Dust and grass clung to Shinichi, making him look slightly disheveled. As he quickly got up, Guy, standing not far away, showed no intention of pursuing. He stood upright, gesturing for Shinichi to continue.
In his sparring with Guy, Shinichi did not use the Gentle Fist. The goal of sparring with Guy was not to defeat him or prove his strength was superior.
The purpose was to train his body, to use continuous combat to build muscle memory against danger, and to familiarize himself with the application of the Flying Thunder God Technique.
For this purpose, pain was essential!
Sensing danger, dodging, counter-attacking, using the Flying Thunder God—once all these actions became muscle memory, even when facing an attack from Uchiha Obito, the body would often issue a command to act before the brain could consciously process it.
On the side of the training field, Uchiha Shisui and Shibi Aburame sat cross-legged on the grass. Watching Shinichi and Guy fight, they even had snacks and a tea set out in front of them. Following the mission failure a month ago, the squad had not been assigned any new missions.
Shibi Aburame and Guy were Jōnin, and Shisui was a Chūnin. In the backdrop of the Third Great Ninja War, these three would typically be extremely busy, spending most of the year on missions and only a fraction of the time resting at home or in the hospital.
However, after becoming teammates with Shinichi, they enjoyed a rare period of leisure. Since the squad was formally established, they would not be individually assigned to other teams unless necessary. The three had grown close over the past month, spending every day together, and through sparring, they had become quite familiar with each other's abilities.
"Shinichi's stamina is truly astonishing!"
"He's been fighting Guy for so long, yet he shows no sign of exhaustion."
"This boy is incredibly diligent!"
Shibi Aburame took a sip of tea, watching the two sparring in the center, and couldn't help but sigh with admiration.
It was common knowledge that a ninja's stamina far surpassed an ordinary person's, but for Shinichi to possess this kind of stamina at his age was simply defying common sense. Shinichi's endurance far surpassed both Shisui and Shibi himself. Among the squad, only Guy could spar with him for this long.
"No one but us would know how much effort and sweat a person with the title of genius actually puts in behind the scenes."
Shisui looked at Hyūga Shinichi in the field, a flicker of affection in his eyes. Having spent so much time together, he regarded the young Shinichi as a little brother.
Shinichi's diligence didn't just make Shisui think he was gifted; it made him feel that Shinichi carried an immense amount of pressure.
Shisui assumed Shinichi's pressure came from his "genius title" and "Hyūga Clan's honor," unaware that Shinichi's efforts were fundamentally driven by the desire to live.
"Effort yields results. Wasn't mastering that technique the best proof of that?"
As if to prove Shibi Aburame's words, Hyūga Shinichi quickly distanced himself after exchanging over a dozen blows with Guy. As Shinichi clenched his fists and stood still, a powerful surge of chakra rose around his body.
"Eight Gates Released Formation: Gate of Opening!"
Chakra formed a small whirlwind around Hyūga Shinichi, spreading outwards. As Shinichi let out a low roar, his figure instantly became a blur, vanishing from their sight.
Might Guy, seeing Shinichi activate the Eight Gates, seemed to have anticipated it. He stretched his body, released his full regular strength, and engaged Hyūga Shinichi in combat.
The Eight Gates! This was one of the results of Hyūga Shinichi's training over the past month. Shinichi had memorized this technique after reviewing the Forbidden Scroll.
As his relationship with Guy deepened, Shinichi revealed his desire to learn the Jutsu. Guy was a warm-hearted person. Since Shinichi already knew the technique, Guy had no reservations about sharing his understanding of the Jutsu and began to assist Shinichi in his training.
The essence of the Eight Gates was to open several special chakra points, thereby unlocking the body's self-imposed limits.
Shinichi, as a Hyūga, faced no obstacles in learning this secret technique. Furthermore, the resilience of his body was far greater than Shinichi had imagined. In just over a month, he had already successfully opened the Gate of Opening (Kaimon), which removes the brain's limitations.
As for the remaining gates, Shinichi felt he could open them, but Might Guy strongly objected, fearing that opening any gates beyond the Gate of Healing (Shōmon) at this age might permanently damage his body's potential. To be responsible for his own future, Shinichi currently only uses the Gate of Opening as a standard combat method.
