Chapter 179 - The Third Tenseigan

At the entrance of the Hyuga clan estate, Hyuga Hiashi and Elder Shin stood with the representative leaders of the Branch House.

News of Shinichi's return had rippled through the village long before he reached the gates. The presence of a "stray" Byakugan user traveling with him had set the clan's rumor mill on fire. For the Hyuga, a Byakugan existing outside their lineage was more than a curiosity—it was a potential security breach of the highest order.

"Brother, is there any chance the reports are wrong?" Hizashi whispered, standing just behind Hiashi. "A stray Byakugan? Our laws are so strict; it shouldn't be possible for a bloodline to leak like that."

Hizashi knew better than anyone how suffocating the clan's grip was. Every marriage was monitored, and every child accounted for. To have a white-haired boy simply appear with the clan's most powerful eyes was a slap in the face to their centuries-old protocols.

"Mistaken?" Hiashi looked toward the end of the street. "The village shinobi know a Byakugan when they see one. Besides, he is with Shinichi. My son wouldn't bring home a stranger without a very good reason. Whatever this is... it's real."

Hiashi felt a mounting headache. If there was a loophole in their system, he would have to find it and close it—though he feared what that might do to the already strained relations between the Main and Branch houses.

"They're here," Elder Shin noted, his voice sharp with anticipation.

The Evolution of the Hyuga

Shinichi walked calmly down the center of the street, dressed in loose training robes. Beside him, Toneri looked around with wide, curious eyes. To the boy from the Moon, Konoha was a vibrant, chaotic, and beautiful explosion of life.

As they approached the gate, the crowd of Hyuga elites went silent. But it wasn't Toneri who drew their breath away—it was Shinichi.

His eyes were no longer the flat, milky white of a standard Byakugan. They held a crystalline depth, a faint, pulsing azure light that seemed to see through the very souls of those standing before him.

"Shinichi!" Hiashi stepped forward, his face pale. He grabbed Shinichi's shoulders, ignoring Toneri entirely for a moment. "Your eyes... what happened? Are you hurt?"

To a father, the sight of a son returning with "mutated" eyes was terrifying.

"Father, calm down. I'm fine," Shinichi said, offering a reassuring smile. "I had a series of... encounters during my travels. My Byakugan has evolved. It's a good thing, I promise."

"Evolved?" The word echoed through the crowd. The Hyuga had always believed the Byakugan was a static, perfect gift. The idea of it changing was heresy to some and a miracle to others.

A New Member

Shinichi pulled Toneri forward, breaking the tension. "We can discuss my eyes in private. This is Toneri. He possesses the Byakugan of our ancestors, and his family is gone. I have promised to look after him as my own brother. I hope for your support, Father."

Hiashi looked at the white-haired boy. He saw the loneliness in Toneri's eyes—a look he had seen in many children of the clan. He nodded slowly.

"If he is of our blood and has no one else, then the Hyuga will be his pillar," Hiashi said, his voice softening. He patted Toneri's shoulder. "Welcome home, child."

He signaled to Shinichi, and the inner circle moved into the privacy of the clan's study.

The Price of Power

Inside the study, once the doors were sealed, Shinichi laid out the truth: the Moon, Otsutsuki Hamura, and the potential of the Tenseigan.

"The Tenseigan..." Elder Shin breathed, the name tasting like an ancient myth. "And you say this boy has the potential to awaken it as well?"

"He does," Shinichi replied. "But for that to happen, his chakra needs a catalyst. I want to transplant the pure Byakugan I reclaimed from the Mist ninja, Ao, into Toneri."

The room went silent. Elder Shin leaned forward, his eyes narrowing. "Shinichi, I understand your desire to strengthen the clan. But let us be practical. The boy is an outsider, despite his lineage. If we give him such power... should we not first place the Caged Bird Seal on him? For his own protection, of course."

Toneri didn't know what the Caged Bird was, but he felt the sudden chill in the room.

"There is no need for that," Shinichi said, his Tenseigan glowing with a sudden, sharp intensity that made the air in the room feel heavy. "I will be responsible for his life. He is my brother. I won't have him bound by a seal."

Elder Shin felt the weight of Shinichi's gaze and realized that the young man before him was no longer just a "prodigy"—he was a force of nature. The Elder swallowed his protests and looked at Hiashi.

"Fine," Hiashi stepped in, sensing the friction. "We will forgo the seal for now. Shinichi, you will oversee his training and the transplant once we have the medical team ready. I will officially adopt him as my ward; he will be known as Hyuga Toneri."

Hiashi then cleared his throat, a small, genuine smile twitching at his lips. "Now that the business of 'gods and moons' is settled, we have a much more pressing matter. Your mother has been talking about it for weeks."

Shinichi blinked. "What's the matter?"

"You're of age, Shinichi. It's time to start thinking about the future of your own line. The meetings are already being scheduled. We need to find you a suitable match."

Shinichi, the man who had just stood toe-to-toe with the ghost of a Sage, suddenly felt a cold sweat break out on his neck.
