Anne's POV
St. Jude High School - my new destination. A fresh start... but only for a year.
You're probably wondering what I mean by that. Let me make it easier.
I'm Anne. Seventeen. A transfer student at this high school. I'm a nature lover-especially obsessed with astronomy. There's just something magical about the stars that pulls me in. 🌌
My priorities are clear. My goals? Even clearer. I'm the youngest in my family, and honestly, my parents and siblings spoil me. They rarely let me face any real problems, so life's been smooth so far.
And yet... here I am. In this unfamiliar school 🏫, where I don't know a single soul-except one: my older brother, Chris. He's a year older than me, but we're both in Grade 12, just in different sections. 🥲
"Hey," Chris's voice pulled me out of my thoughts.
"What?" I asked.
"You wanna be late to class?"
"No. Why?"
"Then stop staring at the school like you're here on some secret mission." 🙃
"Stop the nonsense. Let's go." I rolled my eyes and walked toward the building.
Since we were in different sections, we had different classrooms. His was just a couple rooms ahead of mine.
As I entered my classroom, every single eye turned toward me. Great. I avoided eye contact and tried not to talk to anyone. I'm an introvert-it takes me time to open up. But once I do, I can be the loudest person in the room.
I tossed my bag on the last seat by the window and walked off to check on Chris. When I peeked into his class, that idiot hadn't even taken his seat yet. He was standing there laughing like a maniac with his friends. 😑
I didn't disturb him and turned to leave-when suddenly, a guy on a skateboard zoomed past me. If I hadn't moved, we both would've been flat on the floor. He stopped, turned to look at me, and I swear-for a second-I forgot how to breathe. He looked exactly like the dream guy I used to imagine. Too bad he opened his mouth.
"Don't you have eyes?" he snapped.
Excuse me?! Was it my fault he was skating through a crowded hallway?
He turned to walk off, but I snapped back, "Oh, I have eyes-big and beautiful. But clearly, you don't have a brain."
With that, I stormed off toward my class. It was about time for lessons to start anyway.
I slid into my seat, and a few minutes later, the teacher walked in... with him. The idiot. 👦
We all stood to greet the teacher, but then he called my name. "Class, we have a new student. Let's welcome her. Anne, would you like to introduce yourself?"
Just my luck.
As I walked up, I could feel his eyes on me. Like he wanted to vaporize me with a look. And guess what? He was sitting right next to my seat. 😬 Wonderful.
I stood in front of the class. "Hey, I'm Anne. I'm 17. Feel free to call me Anne or give me any nickname."
The class applauded-except him. 👏
The teacher smiled. "Feel free to ask her anything."
A girl named Eliya stood up. "What did your old friends used to call you?"
Not what I expected, but okay.
"Well, they all had different names for me, but most called me Sunshine because I always tried to bring positive energy into their lives."
The teacher chuckled. "You do seem bright and innocent. May God keep you that way."
"Thank you," I replied, about to head back to my seat when-
"ANNEEEE!!"
A loud scream echoed from the hallway.
Everyone turned, shocked-including me.
I rushed out, only to be pulled into a tight hug and smothered in kisses on both cheeks.
I pushed them away and turned to see... Katie, my old friend.
"Why didn't you tell me you were transferring here?!" she pouted.
"Because of this," I said, wiping my cheeks.
"I'm switching sections!"
My jaw dropped. Great. Now she's going to haunt me every day.
I told her to go back to class and meet me during break. People were still staring.
Back in class, the teacher raised his eyebrows at me.
"She's an old friend," I said sheepishly.
He gave a nonchalant nod, and I returned to my seat-next to that idiot.
He didn't say a word. No weird looks either. I figured it was either:
1. He didn't recognize me from the hallway.
2. He realized it was his fault.
I went with Option 2.
After the teacher left, I turned to him. "What's your name?"
He glared at me. "Don't talk to me."
I blinked. "What's wrong with asking for your name? Do you think you're some kind of rude CEO in a K-drama?"
"Why do you even want to know my name?!" he shouted.
A guy in the front row turned and said, "His name's Kevin."
I ignored that. "Whether your name is Kevin or whatever, I really don't care."
He smirked. "So what are you going to call me, then?"
The class started hooting.
I slammed my hand on the desk. "A maniac. An idiot. Whatever I feel like."
I glared at him. He narrowed his eyes at me.
Ugh. I really, really hate this maniac. 😒😒
