"Naruto: Ice God"Chapter 119: The Three-Tails (Part One)
In Konohagakure.
While handling paperwork, Danzō suddenly felt a wave of inexplicable unease.
Frowning, he tossed the documents onto his desk and summoned a subordinate.
"Still no word from Yamanaka Zen and Shimura Ikku?"
Danzō had always maintained secret surveillance on Uchiha Wada, one of the hardliners who had once made the Second Hokage's blacklist.
Though the war had forced him to redeploy some personnel, Danzō still accorded Wada the respect befitting a leader—even in these dire circumstances, he'd assigned two Jōnin-level subordinates to monitor him.
Just days ago, the surveillance ninja had reported suspicious activity from Uchiha Wada.
Before Root could determine his intentions, Wada had quietly departed the village, fully armed.
A ninja leaving the village without permission—especially during wartime—would have been grounds for branding him a rogue ninja in the Second Hokage's era.
But what worried Danzō more was whether Wada planned to exploit the chaos of war to rally the Uchiha hawks into open rebellion.
After all, some of Fugaku's elite Uchiha had already been deployed to the Kirigakure battlefield.
If the two factions joined forces...
Fearing his suspicions might materialize, Danzō had dispatched Yamanaka Zen and Shimura Ikku to track Wada. If they discovered evidence of collusion, they were to eliminate him immediately.
"No news, but..." The subordinate hesitated.
"Speak."
Sensing the man's reluctance, Danzō's anxiety deepened as he gestured for him to continue.
"Yes, sir. Logistics just reported that Yamanaka Zen dispatched a ninja hawk to the Mist battlefield."
The Mist battlefield?
Had Uchiha Wada already reached that location?
Danzō's expression shifted, his tone growing urgent: "Did he use the ninja hawk to contact Ding Wu?"
"Regrettably, Danzō-sama, we inquired with Ding Wu, but his squad never received any hawk transmission. I suspect..."
The Root ninja began to hesitate again.
"What are you suspecting?" Danzō's expression turned completely cold, chakra surging wildly within him as his breathing grew labored.
"Young Master Feng Bai is at the Mist battlefield..."
"BANG!"
Danzō slammed his palm down, violent wind-attribute chakra shredding the entire desk. Wood fragments scattered everywhere, some sharp debris even piercing the sturdy door.
"Send word to Ding Wu immediately! Have him locate Feng Bai at once and determine exactly what Yamanaka Zen told him!"
...
In a massive artificial cave adjacent to a lake, dozens of Mist ninja had gathered.
They wore masks and armor, clustering warily in the cave's center.
At the deepest part of the cave, a colossal beast was bound by chains, covered in various sealing tags.
The Three-Tails, Isobu.
As one of Kirigakure's Tailed Beasts, it had been sent directly to the front lines because the village had yet to find a suitable Jinchūriki.
Originally, they'd planned to forcibly enrage the Three-Tails and unleash it on the battlefield. However, after the ANBU leader Suikazan Fuguki had been kicked into becoming one of the "Lucky Trio" by Might Duy, he proposed a new strategy.
Capture a Konoha ninja, deliberately allow him to escape, and if he chose to return to the village, release the seal then—inflicting far more severe damage on Konoha.
After all, with Konoha's elite forces concentrated on the front lines, even releasing the Three-Tails on the battlefield wouldn't cause significant losses to Konoha.
Suikazan Fuguki's proposal gained approval from the higher-ups and was also discovered by the underground-traveling White Zetsu, eventually reaching Uchiha Setsuna's ears.
Uchiha Setsuna, driven by vengeance against Konoha, decided to exploit their plan, making the Shimura clan brat the sacrificial pawn to bring anguish to Danzō.
Leading Feng Bai into the cave, the Mist ninja inside showed no surprise at Setsuna's sudden appearance—they had long been controlled by Sharingan genjutsu, now serving as Setsuna's pawns.
"The power Madara-sama bestowed upon me is truly extraordinary."
Feeling the abundant ocular power in his Sharingan, Setsuna could barely contain his grin.
Setsuna was no longer young. As an Uchiha who had raised the banner of rebellion during the Second Hokage's era, Madara worried that Setsuna's age might not sustain him until the time came to counter Nagato, so he'd given him a small enhancement.
Through fusing a small portion of Hashirama's cells, while Setsuna hadn't reached the level of using Wood Release, the goals of enhancing his mobility and ocular power had been perfectly achieved.
Now, he even felt confident enough to cross blades with Tobirama once more—perhaps not achieving complete victory, but certainly not being subdued in a single move as he had been years ago.
"Use this brat as the sacrifice."
Pushing the dazed Feng Bai forward, the Mist ninja immediately followed orders, using Water Whip to bind Feng Bai and beginning to remove his armor.
Several sealing squad members also wheeled out the altar, waiting only for all preparations to be complete before beginning the sealing procedure.
"Heh heh heh, Shimura Danzō, for treating me so in that ANBU prison..." Watching the Mist ninja spring into action, Uchiha Setsuna released a sinister laugh, already fantasizing about Danzō's grief-stricken rage upon losing his son.
Little did he know that not far outside the cave, Feng Bai's true body was approaching, stepping over the corpse of a Mist sentry.
"This position is perfect."
Lying prone on the ground, using the nearby Mist ninja sentry's corpse as cover, Feng Bai observed the scene inside through the cave's dim candlelight, taking in roughly seventy to eighty percent of the situation.
Most eye-catching, naturally, was the massive Three-Tails.
"Damn, I thought this was Minato's script, but it's Rin's?"
Seeing the Three-Tails and the altar before it, Feng Bai immediately guessed Setsuna's purpose.
"That old schemer Madara—has he gone senile? Does he actually think my importance to Obito exceeds Rin's?"
Reaching behind him, Feng Bai prepared to draw White Fang, but suddenly paused as if remembering something, then withdrew his hand.
"Let me give you a taste of poison, you bastard."
Drawing out pre-prepared poisoned senbon, Feng Bai waited for an opportunity—for Setsuna to get close enough to his shadow clone.
Since the shadow clone hadn't dissipated, Feng Bai didn't know the masked man's capabilities, so he chose the most cautious approach: using the Flying Thunder God marker on his shadow clone.
"I'll hit you with a direct Flying Thunder God kidney strike and make you explode!"
Though he said this, striking his opponent wouldn't mean the end—the numerous Mist ninja in the cave would also pose obstacles.
