Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: Ash’s Lucario

[Steven: Here it is, Roxanne. The Kyogre you wanted is here—go ahead and choose.]

[Roxanne: Choose your sister! Do you think I'm an idiot?! I'm ruling Kyogre out immediately!]

[Gardenia: Can someone important explain Option C? What's Phione?]

[Steven: Phione is... uh, alright, I don't know either.]

[Wallace: Quiet, you amateurs. Don't embarrass yourselves trying to sound smart.]

[Steven: Oh? Judging by your tone, you actually know Phione?]

[Wallace: I'm not bragging, but yes, I do. Ever heard of Manaphy, the Prince of the Sea?]

[Steven: No.]

[Wallace: …...]

Steven's casual "no" almost made Wallace choke. After a long pause, he finally continued.

[Wallace: Just know this — Manaphy, like Mew, is an extremely rare Mythical Pokémon. When a Manaphy breeds, the eggs hatch into Phione. However, Phione cannot evolve into Manaphy.]

[Fuchsia: Wow, how do you know all that?]

[Wallace: The Sootopolis Gym preserves ancient records that mention Phione and Manaphy.]

[Bonnie: Oh, that makes sense.]

[Goodshow: Professor Oak, which one do you think is the right choice?]

[Professor Oak: Hmm… the egg only appeared for less than a second in the video. It's hard to determine what Pokémon is inside.]

It was unfortunate. If he could have seen a clear frontal shot, he might have been able to analyze it precisely. For now, everyone could only speculate.

As the three-second penalty protection ended, everyone prepared to answer.

[Ash: A, the answer is A.]

[Misty: Oh? What's your brilliant reasoning, Ash?]

After all, Ash's recent guesses had been spot-on every time, so Misty naturally gave his opinion some respect.

[Ash: I only know Tentacool.]

[Misty: Get lost!]

[Diantha: I'll choose B. Squirtle is a classic Kanto Pokémon and a Water type. That's the safest bet.]

[Cynthia: That makes sense. I'll go with B too.]

[Wallace: Personally, I'd say C is better. Professor Oak wouldn't go to the trouble of giving Ash such a common egg. Squirtle's too ordinary.]

[Gary: That actually makes sense. I'll choose C too.]

[Steven: But isn't C a bit much? Phione's a Mythical Pokémon, isn't it?]

[Fuchsia: Ash already has Mew, so getting a Phione isn't that far-fetched. I'll choose C as well.]

Under Wallace's influence, nearly everyone avoided choosing Riolu. They all assumed the hatched Pokémon had to be a Water-type.

[Answer Countdown Begins!]

3...

2...

The numbers on the large screen flashed rapidly. Korrina looked visibly conflicted.

Should she choose B: Squirtle, C: Phione, or trust her instincts and pick D: Riolu?

In the end, she followed her heart.

[Korrina: D, Riolu!]

1!

The moment the final "1" appeared, the quiz officially ended.

The black-bordered screen lit up again, continuing the video.

Under the watchful eyes of Ash, Pikachu, Pidgey, and Mew, the Pokémon Egg in the backpack began to glow with a dazzling light.

As the light slowly faded, a small, dog-like Pokémon appeared in front of Ash.

"Riolu," Ash murmured, "Professor Oak really gave me a huge surprise."

[Steven: Riolu? Why Riolu?! Wallace, explain this!]

[Phoebe: Didn't we all agree it would be a Water-type Pokémon?!]

[Diantha: Wallace totally misled us.]

[Wallace: Hey, hey, hey! Don't pin it all on me! I just said it might be a Water type — not that it definitely was one!]

[Aaron: Ugh, I fell for your bait, Wallace… again!]

Aaron, who had already answered wrong twice in a row, looked like he was about to cry. For the next two rounds, he could only sit and watch helplessly.

[Korrina: I got it right! I got it right! Yay, yay, yay!]

Amid Korrina's cheers, the system chimed again.

[Ding! Prize Quiz Results Announced!]

[Top three participants: Korrina.]

[Congratulations to the winner! Rewarding...]

[Quiz participant Korrina — reward: a portion of Ash's Lucario's battle experience.]

[Ash: Lucario? When did I ever catch a Lucario?]

[System: Future.]

The response came coldly.

[Gary: Huh, that reward's kinda lame. It's nothing compared to the Legendary Pokémon rewards Ash and Grandpa got.]

[Diantha: Yeah, and it's not even all of Lucario's experience — just a portion! That's so stingy.]

[Pachira: I actually feel bad for Korrina now.]

It wasn't just Pachira. Everyone sympathized with Korrina — she had finally gotten an answer right, only to get a reward that wasn't as exciting as she'd hoped.

Still, something was better than nothing. With that in mind, Korrina opened the reward package.
