My heart was beating like a trapped bird inside my chest.
I stood there on the VIP platform, staring at the completely empty metal railing where Nick and Cyan had been standing just two minutes ago.
They had vanished into thin air. I looked left, I looked right, my eyes darting frantically over the sea of heads, but there was no sign of blonde hair or a mesh top anywhere.
"Noah," Cassian's voice dropped behind me, heavy and slow. "What did you see?"
I turned around fast, plastering the absolute fake, brightest smile onto my face. "Nothing! Not a single thing. I just thought I saw… a giant spider. On the wall. But it was a shadow. Total mistake."
Cassian's eyes narrowed into tiny slits. He didn't believe a word coming out of my mouth. He stared at me with that intense, quiet look that usually made people start weeping and confessing to crimes they hadn't even committed.
"You are a terrible actor," he murmured, taking a step toward meeting me.
