I stared at him.
For the first time in my life, I felt a genuine, cold spike of fear run down my spine. Cassian wasn't bluffing.
He wasn't playing a game, and he wasn't trying to win an argument. He was entirely, completely serious. He would break my bones without a second thought if I did anything bad to Cyan.
And what I hated most... what made my blood boil until I thought I might snap... was that I was impressed. I was furious, humiliated, and deeply, terribly impressed by him.
I forced a laugh out of my chest, though it sounded thin and dry even to my own ears.
"You're taking this far too seriously."
"Maybe," Cassian said.
I stubbed my cigarette out against the brick wall, tossing the butt onto the floor.
"You're playing the protective hero, but you're making a big deal out of nothing. There is nothing going on between Cyan and I. We went to a concert. That's it."
I pushed past him, letting my shoulder slam hard against his as I walked by.
