They stared at each other for a while. During that time, Mila kept averting her gaze, while Evelyn's expression slowly shifted from surprise to a thoughtful one.
After a cold breeze slipped between them and ruffled both of their hair, Evelyn drew her shoulders up slightly as the chill settled on her body.
Before speaking, she let out a deep sigh, then turned off her phone and put it in her pocket.
"Why do you think something like that would happen?" she asked.
Mila lifted her eyes from the grass in the garden and looked at Evelyn.
For a moment, she put her hand to her mouth and chewed on her nails as if trying to figure out how to form her sentence.
Seeing her like that, Evelyn held back her impatience and waited for her to speak.
"Carmela... Carmela's family can do anything. H-Her father is a congressman, and her mother is a famous d-doctor... Whatever Carmela wants... she makes her father do it."
