Chapter 10 - Beginning is Important

A week had passed, and Alina didn't call me for—well, anything.

Sure, we met almost every day at the office, but it wasn't a personal meeting, as there were other employees present. So, we didn't talk much, as the most I did was greet her.

And as for her, whenever she saw me, she flashed a loving smile at me after making sure that no one was seeing.

Arghh!

It just gave me creeps every time. Just the thought of an alpha doing this made my stomach churn.

Anyway, I was now starting to think that I might really survive this. Seven days had already passed and nothing major had happened, and hopefully, the remaining days should be like this too.

I looked at myself in a mirror. The dress that I had brought yesterday, after some alteration, was now perfectly fitted on my body. Though I didn't consider myself a beauty, I didn't have a choice but to admit that I was a stunning woman.

Alright, I might have tried a little to look stunning—not more, but just a little, a regular visit to my mom's parlor and daily routine of exercises, just that. Well, the exercise was necessary since I realized what I was becoming after a few days of joining my current job.

But if I rated myself ten out of ten before, then today I was a hundred out of ten.

The dress I had chosen was very flashy. Well, I wouldn't say I chose it since it was my coworkers who complimented me endlessly about my looks and body—I got little compelled by them and ended up with this particular dress.

It was of crimson color with bare shoulders and revealing a large portion of my back, which was a little uncomfortable—this was the first time I was wearing this kind of dress, but all in all, it was very comforting. Like I said, it hugged my body perfectly such that there wasn't a part that was loose or excessively tight. Just perfect, and the cloth was like a liquid silk.

Usually, I wouldn't pay that much attention to these kinds of things, but now, a lot of things had changed. And most important of them all was that I was a director now. Now I felt like I had some face that I needed to save.

So, speaking of face, I asked my mom to do her thing. My mom had her own salon, and after I told her that I was going to a wedding, she went a little overboard—or maybe she was just making up for not doing that at my own wedding.

So, now my hair, which I usually kept loose so that—no, it's just easy, and if by some unforeseen circumstances it got ruined, then I wouldn't have to waste too much time—was now tied by a glass clip that resembled a big flower with two little branches with small leaves protruding from it wrapped around my head like a crown.

I wanted to let them free to curtain my bare back, but my mom said that was the whole point—showing my back off—and she styled a lock of hair from my left side and let it fall on that side of my face after making it curvy along the length.

My mom said it made women sexy when they tugged them behind their ears while lifting their heads and simultaneously fluttering their eyelashes slowly.

God, she even made me practice that. She was definitely taking revenge for not letting her bride's makeup artist at my wedding.

And so, she put little effort into my lashes as well before dyeing my lips blood red like my dress.

No, I wasn't complaining about my looks. Like I said before, I look stunning, but wasn't this being too much? I didn't even put that much thought on my wedding.

Little did I know, I did. It was just that my mind was elsewhere at that time.

After nodding and draping a long white coat over my shoulder, I went to the venue. Since I would be drinking, I didn't take my car and booked a cab.

The venue, unlike mine, was very grand and big. And why was I even thinking about that nightmare—my wedding?

I shook my head and went inside, and as I entered, a servant took my coat after I showed them the invitation card.

As soon as I entered, I spotted chief manager Zoey. She too was dressed in a beautiful dress and had discarded her normal formal clothes and also her thick-framed glasses.

Wow, she was beautiful.

For a second, my steps halted, thinking that I might mistook her for another person—that was how much different she was looking. She was in her thirties, but now she looked really young.

"Miss Zoey, I am not late, am I?"

After quickly arriving close to her...I swear to god I didn't do that on purpose, but that lock of hair kept swaying in front of my face, and I tugged that at the back of my ear.

"I knew it."

I tilted my head to the side as I didn't understand what she meant because I knew I wasn't late—it was just to start the conversation.

"You look amazing, Andrea. If I wasn't married, then I would have already proposed to you."

Where had the other pickup lines gone to?

Her face was serious as she said that, so I knew she wasn't joking. It wasn't in her nature to joke, and by far she was the most honest person I have seen during my work. That was why no one asked her when she complained about her marriage. But was she looking at herself?

"Thank you, but I think it should be my line. You look just too beautiful."

I laughed brightly because she wasn't actually married and would have really proposed to me, then I would have had to decline.

No, thank you, but I didn't even handle one marriage, so forget about another one, and suddenly my smile dimmed.

"Oh, please, they weren't even startled when I came, and now they are all red."

She pointed at the juniors who were with her, and sure, when I saw them, they were all blushing while some were smiling shyly.

"Maybe you are not seeing things right because you left your glasses, but they were surprised after seeing you."

Just then, deputy chief Shaun involved himself in the conversation by himself.

"But yes, director, you look really pretty tonight."

He ignored the angry gaze of Zoey and spoke to me. His eyes were shining as he had already confessed his feelings to me.

"Yeah? But don't go falling for me again, okay?"

We had a lengthy conversation and sorted that matter out.

"Same goes for you all."

I looked at the juniors and said with a smile. Some smiled back after composing themselves, but some showed disappointment.

"Right, our director is already taken, guys. Did your girlfriend come with you?"

Right, they knew about Angelica. That was another problem. Now, I should have told them that we broke up, right?

But before I answered, Shaun suddenly turned his head and looked at angry Zoey and asked.

"What about you, Chief?"

I secretly sighed in relief and turned my attention to Zoey.

"No, she is busy."

Without even blinking, she answered.

"When are you going to introduce us to your wife?"

Shaun let out a tired sigh. Now that I think about it, she hadn't introduced her spouse to us yet. So in that regard, she was even more puzzling than me.

Was she lying about her marriage? No, I saw her talking to her on the phone, and it was definitely her wife. What then?

I didn't have these thoughts before, but now, after I myself went through with that situation, I couldn't help but think like that.

Just then, the music changed and the lighting dimmed. The people who were talking among themselves started to move towards the altar.

"Looks like it is time now. Let's sit before the seats all fill up at the front."

Zoey said and rushed to the front. Since we were from the bride's side, we sat on the right. The front seats was already given to the most notable guests, and the second rows were occupied by the young ladies and men, so we sat behind them, which wasn't very far from the stage, but Zoey wasn't satisfied.

"You guys slowed me down."

"I don't think these young people would last long—then we can take their seats."

In the proper wedding, the vows ceremony goes on for over an hour, so the young people would only come when the bride walked in the aisle and leave, coming only when it was time for the vows, and I, of course, knew that since I too planned to do that, but at the last moment I had no choice but to keep it short.

"But the beginning is important, Andrea."

I was surprised, but that was how Zoey was. She cared too much about these little things, saying it was ethics and whatnot. She even proposed the welcome party for the new Ceo, but it got turned down because of the current company condition.

Whenever things like that happened, she was always involved. So it was really confusing when she didn't let us see her wife. Even though I thought about it so badly, I couldn't think of anything.

"Did you see that?"

"There are so many big shots here."

Hmm?

Just then, the young people in front of us started to murmur such that it became too loud, and I couldn't help but draw to it.

I wasn't the only one though—as I was picking up bits and pieces of their murmurs, Shaun leaned in and whispered loudly.

"Holy shit, is that our boss?"

My head snapped back to him and quickly followed his line of sight, and so did Zoey. And after frantically moving my eyes, I saw a handsome figure with a charming smile greeted by some individuals on the groom's side.

My eyes were left open for a long time until it erased all doubt or hope of her not be her.
