Sallie's POV
Patricia had survived by sheer luck. The Finley family pulled her from the ocean shortly after she'd plunged into the churning waters. Her body endured, but the baby growing inside her didn't survive the violent impact.
Rage and grief consumed Patricia. Despite her battered condition and weakened state, she dragged herself to find Kevin. What she discovered instead was him strangling me with murderous intent, his face twisted with fury.
"Jill overheard your conversation with Patricia," he snarled. "You orchestrated a fake kidnapping to deceive me. What's your excuse now? If Patricia dies, you'll pay with your life!"
In that crushing moment, Patricia's heart shattered completely. She and I had been raised alongside Kevin. He should have understood our true nature.
Yet because Jill claimed she'd "witnessed it personally," he turned against us. Looking back, their arguments had intensified over the years. Most weren't even about choosing between Jill and me.
