Sallie's POV
I'd decided not to waste my time on the Noah family anymore, but something shifted in me. That evening after work, I stopped dodging Zora and walked straight up to her instead.
Zora had been bracing herself for another cold shoulder, so when I actually approached her, she looked completely blindsided.
After a beat of shocked silence, Zora scrambled to her feet, wringing her hands like a nervous wreck. She looked uncomfortable and jumpy. "Sallie..."
I kept my face neutral. "Mrs. Noah, you've been dying to talk to me, right? Well, here I am. What's on your mind?"
Since everyone was getting off work, the area buzzed with foot traffic. When people spotted Zora and me standing together, practically every single one of them turned into a gossip vulture.
Some tried to look casual as they strolled past, others pretended to chat with their buddies, but they were all straining to catch every juicy detail.
