Sallie's POV
After that day, Zora stopped showing up at the company to hunt me down, and she didn't even bother reaching out privately to beg for my forgiveness.
Kevin told me that after Zora returned home that day, she got sick, started having nightmares, and dropped a bunch of weight.
"No matter what, she's still your mom, the one who gave birth to you and raised you," Kevin said, his face creased with disapproval. "You shouldn't have spoken to Mom that way. She's really devastated."
I pressed my fingers against my temples, irritated. "Whether she's actually devastated or not, what does that have to do with me?"
Kevin clearly hadn't expected such cold indifference from me, and I could see the helplessness wash over his features. "Sallie, she's still your mother. Family doesn't hold grudges forever. Are you really still bitter about all this?"
His tone turned soft, almost coaxing, like some protective big brother trying to sweet-talk his baby sister out of a tantrum.
