Next morning---
Class 3-A heard an announcement that had the entire class buzzing with curiosity.
"We're doing a quirk assessment today," Aizawa said flatly, standing at the front of the classroom. "Specifically for Midoriya."
All eyes turned to the green-haired newcomer, who immediately tensed in his seat.
"A solo assessment?" Iida asked, his hand already raised. "Is this standard procedure for transfer students?"
"It's standard procedure when I say it is," Aizawa replied in his usual monotone. "Midoriya has been receiving private training, which means none of us have seen his quirk in action against real combat scenarios. Before I can properly integrate him into team exercises, I need to understand his capabilities, limitations, and tactical decision-making."
"That makes sense," Momo said thoughtfully. "Baseline assessment before advanced coordination training."
Midoriya's hand shot up nervously. "Um, sensei, what kind of assessment are we talking about?"
Aizawa's slight smile was almost predatory. "You'll see. Everyone, change into your hero costumes and meet at Training Ground Beta in twenty minutes. Midoriya, you'll be participating. The rest of you will observe."
---
Training Ground Beta was one of UA's urban simulation zones—a small city with buildings ranging from two to ten stories, complete with streets, alleyways, and various environmental obstacles.
Class 3-A gathered in the observation deck overlooking the training area, their hero costumes on and ready despite being told they were only watching.
Ryuu stood by the reinforced windows, already noticing how tense Midoriya looked.
The green-haired student was doing final checks on his costume—primarily green and black with red highlights, armored boots and reinforced gloves that looked designed to handle significant impact force.
"Alright, Midoriya," Aizawa's voice came through the intercom system. "Here's the scenario....there are five civilian dummies scattered throughout the training zone. You have ten minutes to locate and extract all five to the designated safe zone."
A holographic marker appeared on the main screen, showing the safe zone near the entrance of the training ground.
"Sounds simple enough," Kaminari commented.
"He hasn't finished," Jirou said, nodding toward Aizawa.
"While you're searching for civilians, the training ground will be populated with combat robots set to aggressive mode. They'll be actively hunting you. Defeat them, evade them, or disable them—your choice. But every civilian left behind when the timer expires is a failure."
Midoriya's voice came through clearly despite the distance. "Understood, sensei!"
"One more thing," Aizawa continued. "This isn't just about speed or power. I'm evaluating your decision-making, quirk control, and ability to manage multiple objectives simultaneously. Begin when ready."
The timer appeared on the screen:
10:00.
Midoriya took a deep breath....pushing down the nervousness, letting determination take over.
Then green lightning erupted across his body.
"Whoa," Mina breathed. "Is that his quirk activating?"
The emerald energy crackled and danced across Midoriya's skin like living electricity, wrapping around his limbs and torso in a full-body aura.
His eyes glowed slightly with the same green light.
"Full Cowling: Forty-Five Percent!" Midoriya's voice was clear and focused.
And then he moved.
The speed was incredible....not quite Iida's recipro-burst velocity, but fast enough that he became a green blur shooting down the main street.
Every step cracked the pavement beneath him.
Then he jumped—so high he soared right over a three-story building...just like that.
"Holy shit," Sero muttered. "That's enhancement?"
"Look at the power output," Momo said, her eyes tracking Midoriya's movements analytically. "Every action generates significant force. His quirk doesn't just enhance....it's like...it floods his body with energy."
Midoriya landed on a rooftop and immediately started scanning the area, his head snapping left and right, looking for any sign of the 'civilians'.
'First civilian spotted', Ryuu thought, watching Midoriya's gaze lock onto something in an alley below.
But before Midoriya could move, three combat robots emerged from a building across the street...humanoid machines about seven feet tall, their frame gleaming with reinforced plating.
The robots' sensors locked onto Midoriya instantly.
"Targets acquired," the mechanical voices echoed. "Engaging."
Energy blasts fired from their arm-mounted cannons.
Midoriya didn't hesitate.
He launched himself off the rooftop, the green lightning intensifying around his legs. Mid-air, he twisted his body, dodging the first two blasts with pure acrobatic grace before—
"DETROIT SMASH!"
His fist connected with the lead robot's chest with devastating force.
The impact created a shockwave that shattered nearby windows, and the robot literally crumpled inward before being launched backward through a concrete wall.
The other two robots adjusted their tactics, splitting up to flank him.
'He's analyzing while moving??,' Ryuu observed.
While Midoriya's internal monologue was almost audible in how his body moved: 'Two targets, both armed. Can't let them get distance for sustained fire. Need to close the gap quickly.'
He exploded forward, the green energy propelling him like a rocket.
One robot fired, but Midoriya was already sliding under the blast, his reinforced boots scraping against asphalt as he ducked low and drove his fist upward into the machine's midsection.
"SMASH!"
The robot went airborne, circuits sparking.
The third robot attempted a grapple, mechanical arms extending to capture him.
Midoriya spun, caught one arm, and used the robot's own momentum to flip it over his shoulder and slam it into the ground with enough force to leave a crater.
Timer: 8:47
"Efficient," Tokoyami commented. "Three robots eliminated in under ninety seconds."
"But he's not pacing himself," Todoroki observed quietly. "Look at the power output. He's going hard right from the start."
Ryuu could also see the flaw in that....it will cause strains to Midoriya's body down the line.
The quirk was powerful, yes, but it was also demanding. Every burst of speed, every devastating punch, it was taking a toll.
Midoriya retrieved the first civilian dummy from the alley, a mannequin designed to simulate an unconscious person's weight.
He secured it quickly and began moving toward the safe zone, but his eyes were already scanning for the next target.
'The Second civilian—spotted'. Heshifted his path mid-stride.
More robots emerged.
Five this time, positioned at the intersection points to cut off his route.
"Scenario's adapting to his performance," Aizawa's voice came through the observation deck speakers. "The system increases difficulty based on success rate."
But Midoriya didn't slow down.
Instead, he accelerated.
The green lightning intensified, crackling more violently around his body.
Ryuu's eyes widened as he watched him ramp up his power.
"Fifty Percent!" Midoriya shouted, and the aura exploded outward.
He became a green comet.
The first robot didn't even have time to fire before Midoriya's punch connected with its head, ripping the entire cranial unit clean off the frame.
He didn't stop moving—flowed directly into a spinning kick that caught the second robot in the torso, the impact audible even through the observation deck's soundproofing.
He's chaining movements, Ryuu analyzed. Using the momentum from each attack to fuel the next. Incredibly efficient... but dangerous.
The third and fourth robots coordinated their attack, firing simultaneously from different angles.
Midoriya's response was terrifying in its precision.
He kicked off the ground, the concrete shattering beneath him, and shot upward between the two energy blasts.
At the apex of his jump—three stories high—he twisted and fired off two air-pressure punches.
"DELAWARE SMASH AIR FORCE!"
Twin shockwaves of compressed air slammed into the robots, the pressure alone enough to crumple their armor plating and send them spinning away like toys.
The fifth robot attempted to retreat, tactical programming recognizing it was outmatched.
Midoriya didn't let it.
He ricocheted off a building wall—actually ran along the vertical surface for several steps—and launched himself at the fleeing machine.
His fist glowed with concentrated green energy as he wound up for a devastating strike.
"FULL COWLING: SHOOT STYLE!"
The axe kick came down like a guillotine, and the robot simply ceased to exist as a functional unit, smashing into the pavement with enough force to create a small crater.
Timer: 6:23
"He's a monster," Kaminari breathed. "That's not just enhancement....that's an overwhelming force."
"Look at his hands," Mina said, her voice tight with concern.
Ryuu had already noticed.
Even from this distance, with the camera zoom, they could see Midoriya's fingers trembling slightly.
The gloves were designed to absorb impact, but there were hairline cracks appearing along the knuckles.
He's hurting himself, Ryuu realized. 'Even with better control, the power is still damaging him'.
Midoriya grabbed the second civilian and started sprinting toward the third, but his movements were slightly less fluid now.
Not enough that most people would notice, but Ryuu caught the subtle hitch in his stride, the way he favored his right leg just a fraction.
The scenario wasn't done with him.
A massive robot—easily twice the size of the standard units—emerged from a warehouse building.
This one was clearly a boss-level threat, with heavier armor plating and multiple weapon systems.
"Oh come on," Sero muttered. "That's not fair."
"It's perfectly fair," Aizawa countered. "Heroes don't get to choose their opposition. How he handles overwhelming force matters."
Midoriya set down the civilian dummy carefully, his eyes never leaving the massive robot.
'He couldn't leave the civilians exposed. He had to take down the threat fast'. That was the only thought running through Ryuu's mind.
"Executor," Midoriya muttered, his tactical mind clearly working. "It has heavy armor means standard strikes won't be efficient. Need concentrated force. Precision over power distribution."
The green lightning started to concentrate, pulling inward rather than spreading across his whole body.
It focused primarily in his right arm, the energy density increasing until it looked like his limb was encased in emerald flame.
"He's concentrating the enhancement," Momo observed. "But...he's sacrificing full-body boost for overwhelming single-point impact."
"That's going to destroy his arm," Todoroki said flatly.
Ryuu felt the same concern.
The massive robot opened fire—a barrage of energy blasts that turned the street into a war zone.
Midoriya moved through them like a dancer, his analysis predicting trajectories and finding the gaps in the attack pattern.
He closed the distance in seconds, weaving between blasts that would have vaporized him, his focus absolute.
When he was within range, he planted his feet and chambered his fist.
The power building in his arm was visible even to those without enhanced senses—the green energy so dense it was almost solid, crackling with barely contained force.
"FULL COWLING—"
'Wait', Ryuu thought, confusion spiking. 'He's going all out?'
"—ONE HUNDRED PERCENT: DETROIT SMASH!"
The punch connected.
The shockwave was apocalyptic.
Windows shattered across three city blocks.
The massive robot didn't just get destroyed—it got atomized, reduced to scrap metal and scattered components that rained down across the training ground.
The concrete beneath Midoriya's feet cracked in a spider-web pattern extending fifty feet in every direction.
But the cost was immediate and visible.
Midoriya's right arm hung limp at his side, the glove shredded and blood already seeping through the tears in his costume sleeve.
His breathing was labored, and even from the observation deck, they could see him swaying slightly.
"Idiot," Aizawa muttered, but his hand was already moving to the emergency stop button.
"Sensei," Ryuu said sharply. "I don't think he's done yet."
And he wasn't.
Despite the obvious injury, despite the pain that had to be excruciating, Midoriya was moving again.
He switched to his left arm for mobility, the green energy redistributing, and continued the mission.
Third civilian located. Retrieved. Deposited at safe zone.
Fourth civilian—in a collapsed building that required careful extraction. Midoriya worked one-handed, using precise applications of his quirk to lift debris without causing further structural damage.
Timer: 2:34
Fifth civilian...unfortunately was surrounded by three more standard robots.
Midoriya's right arm was useless, already swelling. But he didn't hesitate.
He went low, sliding between the robots' legs and grabbing the civilian with his functional arm.
When the robots turned to fire, he used Shoot Style—kicks enhanced with the same devastating power he'd been putting into his punches.
The robots went down.
Midoriya limped toward the safe zone, civilian secured, his body screaming with accumulated damage but his determination unwavering.
Timer: 0:17
He crossed into the safe zone with nine seconds to spare and immediately collapsed to his knees, breathing hard.
"Exercise complete," the automated voice announced. "All objectives achieved. Time remaining: 0:09."
The observation deck was silent for a long moment.
"Well," Kaminari finally said, "that was insane."
