Chapter 46 - Bonus Chapter 46

Wrong Turn tells the story of a group of people who get lost in a spooky forest and have to escape from a scary "backwoods killer."

The movie starts with the main hero, Chris, played by Joaquin Phoenix. He's a reporter who gets an urgent call from his boss. He has to get to a city called Raleigh in just three hours.

"Darn this assignment!" Chris grumbles. But he has no choice. A man's gotta eat.

But his trip gets messed up by a big traffic accident. A truck carrying chemicals has flipped over, and the whole freeway is a giant parking lot.

"Darn this interview... darn this traffic!" Chris groans. "Today is just not my day." Feeling stuck, Chris decides to take a lonely, creepy-looking backroad as a shortcut.

...

At the same time, five friends—Jessie, Carly, Scott, Evan, and Francine—are driving into the mountains for a fun camping trip. (Jessie is played by Adriana Lima!)

Halfway there, their tire suddenly blows out.

"A flat tire?" Jessie sighs.

The group has no choice but to pull over and wait for help. But they don't have to wait long. Soon, Chris (who is also lost) comes driving down the same road and sees them.

"Darn it!" Chris yells, seeing more trouble. He asks the group for help.

"Man, you want a ride with us?" Scott says, pointing to their car with the flat tire. "You think this thing is going anywhere?"

With no other choice, the whole group decides to walk into the woods to look for a phone. They don't know it, but they are walking right into the killer's traps.

...

In movie theaters all over the country, people watching the movie could already feel the spooky part coming.

"I bet the scary guy from the poster shows up next," one kid whispered to his friend.

"Thompson, just watch the movie, okay? Don't ruin it!" his friend hissed back.

"Sorry, sorry."

...

The movie continues...

And the backwoods killer finally appears! His face is hideous, and his laugh is scary. He's a really bad guy. And right away, he brutally tortures and kills one of the campers.

"No... Francine!"

As the friends watch this horrible, bloody scene, they all start to panic and run. From this moment on, the movie becomes a big, scary chase!

The killer chases them, they try to hide, and there are lots of graphic, bloody scenes that made all the horror fans in the audience jump out of their seats.

"Awesome!" "We should go camping in the woods more often. It'd be even cooler if we ran into a psycho killer!" "Yeah, I'd just blast that sicko with one shot."

...It's funny how some people talk a big game in a movie theater, but they would be terrified if it happened in real life!

The story of Wrong Turn wasn't very complicated. The main fun of the movie was just watching the scary chases and the big, bloody fights between the killer and the heroes.

Plus, Zane had been very smart. For the last few years, most horror movies were about ghosts. There hadn't been a good, simple slasher movie in a long time. Wrong Turn was exactly what audiences were hungry for.

...

The movie soon ended, but the people watching were just getting started.

"That was a 9 out of 10! Best slasher I've seen in years!" one guy said to his friend. "Totally!" another agreed. "Way better than the last Scream movie. I can't wait for the sequel." "Then why don't we just watch it again?" a third friend suggested. "Yeah!"

...

"A backwoods killer? Do things like that really exist?" a girl asked her friend, her voice trembling.

"Of course they do!" her friend said, seeing a chance. "Just think about all those campers who go missing in the woods every year. It's totally possible they ran into one of these freaks."

Hearing this, the girl turned pale with fear and leaned right into her friend's arms.

Heh, works every time, the friend thought, with a secret, happy smirk.

...

At a Movie Theater Head Office...

"What?! You said Wrong Turn is selling more tickets now? Why am I just hearing about this, you idiot!" "What should we do? Of course, we add more screens! Take some screens away from the movies that aren't selling! You can handle that, right?" "What? The other studios are complaining? Let them be unhappy! Why are we in this business? To make money!"

This is just how Hollywood works. The movies that make the most money get the most screens.

Wrong Turn was doing even better than the original movie from Zane's old life.

Why? Because there were no other big horror movies out. And the director, M. Night Shyamalan, was a real talent. He was way better than the director of the original movie. He made the chase scenes scarier and the whole movie just plain better.

"Heh, of course it's different," Zane thought to himself. "The original Wrong Turn director was just okay. But Shyamalan? He's the future director of The Sixth Sense. The gap in talent is massive."

Zane had to smile. He knew Shyamalan was the real deal. He was so glad he'd hired him. Zane, who sometimes jokingly called himself a "Talented Director," knew his real strength was in finding and supporting amazing people like Shyamalan.

...

Three days passed in a flash. Wrong Turn finished its first weekend, and the numbers were in.

It had made a total of $12.45 million! It was the number three movie of the weekend!

This was the strongest and best opening weekend for any movie Wald Pictures had ever made.
