November 22nd.
There were less than three days until the movie Juno was released.
At 7 PM, Wald Pictures held its first-ever movie premiere at the famous TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood!
Many celebrities and fans were invited. Before the premiere even started, dozens of reporters were already lined up on the red carpet.
"It's really crowded today," one reporter said. "Hey, aren't you from Entertainment Tabloid? This is a movie premiere, not a gossip magazine!"
The gossip reporter just grinned. "Seriously? You didn't know Charlize Theron was coming today? She used to work for the boss of Wald Pictures! Plus, how did an unknown actress like her get the lead role in his first movie, Static? There's got to be a story there!"
"Oh? Wow! I didn't know that!" the other reporter said, suddenly very interested.
Even though Static only made $17 million in America, it had made hundreds of millions in Europe. It was a huge shock! Because of that movie, Charlize Theron became famous overnight. She was now a rising star.
"Wow! Goddess Theron! Look here!"
"Look! It's James McAvoy, too! The guy from Static!"
The fans screamed when Charlize and James stepped out of the car together.
"They really are a golden pair!" a reporter sighed, taking pictures like crazy.
"Haha!" the gossip reporter laughed. "Tomorrow's headline is right here! I still don't believe there's no romance between them."
Even though James hadn't made another movie yet, he was so handsome that he had tons of fans. Half the girls in the crowd were there just for him!

Next, another guest caused a stir.
"Oh my God!"
"It's the President of Pixar—Steve Jobs!"
"Man, that guy is famous for being grumpy. I never thought he'd come to a premiere for a small company like Wald Pictures!"
Steve Jobs was walking with his right-hand man, John Lasseter.
"Boss," Lasseter whispered, "didn't you have a fight with Zane the other day? Why did you insist on coming to his premiere?"
"Hmph!" Jobs snorted proudly. "I'm not here to cheer for him! I just want to see what kind of trash film his company has made!"
"Okay, boss," Lasseter sighed. He was used to Jobs's sharp tongue.

Next came all of Zane's business partners.
Old Billy (the toy store owner).
Jeff Bezos (Amazon).
The CEO of ICQ.
Jordan from Paramount.
Rhett from Warner Bros.
Cindy from ITV (the British TV channel).
These people weren't famous to the fans, but the reporters knew they were big deals. It showed that Wald Pictures had powerful friends!
Then came the actors and directors who had worked with Zane:
Mark Ruffalo (the future Hulk).
Scarlett Johansson (the future Black Widow).
Zack Snyder (director of 300).
M. Night Shyamalan (director of Wrong Turn).
Joaquin Phoenix (the Joker).
And Adriana Lima, the model and Zane's girlfriend again.
The crowd was going wild!
But the biggest cheers were saved for the end. The cast of Juno finally arrived!
"Look here!" Click! Click! Click!
The cameras were flashing like crazy. You could tell how popular they were.
Zane watched from the side, shaking his head with a smile.
"Victor," Zane asked, "how much did you pay those reporters to work this hard?"
Victor laughed. "Boss, we spent a lot. But it's necessary. Publicity isn't free!"
Zane nodded. He knew Hollywood reporters could be mean. They would spy on people and write bad stories about anyone, even the President! Paying them to be nice was just smart business.
This was a busy night for Wald Pictures. Usually, movies had lots of small test screenings before the big premiere. But Wald Pictures was still too small for that. So tonight was the big test!
Soon, everyone settled into their seats, and the movie Juno began to play.
