What's it like to be a billionaire?
Zane Blackwood couldn't speak for other billionaires, but for him, it meant being able to trust his team. After he finished buying the new book-publishing companies, he handed all the follow-up work over to his CEO, Victor. That's what having an amazing, talented team was for.
Victor was so good at his job. Zane was already planning to give him a big reward with stock options!
A Visit to WWE Headquarters
On this day, Zane decided to personally visit the headquarters of WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment). As a well-known, super-rich person in America and a shareholder in WWE, he was given a very warm welcome.
Vince McMahon, the main boss of WWE, even brought a big group of his top people to greet Zane right at the company's entrance!
"Mr. Blackwood, welcome!"
Vince was in his 50s, but he was a big guy. As a former wrestler, he stayed in great shape. He was tall (about 6'1") and very muscular.
"Mr. McMahon, wow!" Zane said with a big, friendly, and charming smile. "It's so great to be here. You really don't need to be so formal just for me. I'm just here for a fun, casual visit!"
Even though he said that, Zane felt a warm, happy feeling inside. Who doesn't enjoy it when people are that happy to see you?
Nowadays, whenever Zane went out, he was always with eight armed bodyguards. His personal car was a special, high-end bulletproof car made just for him by Ford. In terms of safety, it was as good as the U.S. President's special car.
Of course, it cost a ton of money: $1.5 million!
Amid all the friendly compliments from Vince McMahon and his team, Zane followed them into the big company conference room.
"Mr. Blackwood," Vince said, "even though you're just here for a casual visit, I think it's important to give you a quick update on how the company is doing."
The other bosses in the room all agreed.
"Alright, I accept," Zane said with a friendly wave of his hand.
The update was a little dull, but that was okay. It was mostly about how many famous wrestlers they had, the number of people watching on Zane's TV network (UPN), and other business stuff.
Zane already knew most of it. As the owner of a company, he knew you didn't need to know every little detail. But you always had to watch the money. As long as he checked the financial reports, he knew no big problems would sneak by him.
"Mr. McMahon, and everyone," Zane said, getting straight to the point, "I'm guessing my guy, Kevin Fitch, from the 300 Warriors of Sparta movie team, has already talked to you about hiring some actors?"
"He sure did!" Vince said with a big smile. "Vice President Fitch has already made a deal with us. We're all set."
Zane nodded, feeling proud. It's so great having a team that gets things done!
Vince and the other WWE bosses were very supportive of the idea. WWE was a sports entertainment show. They knew their wrestlers (who were really actors) couldn't wrestle forever.
This deal helped their star wrestlers get jobs in Hollywood after they retired. For example, a future superstar named Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson got his start in WWE. Plus, whenever a reporter mentioned that a big movie star came from WWE, it was great advertising for Vince's company.
It was a perfect win-win for everyone.
Meeting the Wrestlers
Two hours later, the meeting was over.
Vince McMahon personally led Zane on a tour of the company. The best part was the wrestlers' training area.
"Gentlemen, gather around!" Vince boomed to all the muscular men in the gym.
"Let me introduce you to an amazing young man!" Vince announced. "Yes, the young man right in front of you is the famous, super-rich boss of your TV network, UPN, and the owner of Wald Pictures movie studio... Mr. Zane Blackwood!"
The crowd of wrestlers, who had been lifting weights and training, all stopped and got visibly excited.
They all knew who Zane was! He was the boss of the network that aired their show. And he owned a Hollywood movie company! Who wouldn't want to get into the movies?
"Welcome, Mr. Blackwood!" many of the wrestlers cheered together.
Zane had a real appreciation for these muscular men. He didn't care if the matches were "scripted" or not. This was their job, and they worked hard at it. Every worker deserved respect!
"Hey, big guy!"
Zane pointed with a huge, enthusiastic smile at one of the men who was over 6'10" tall. "You're The Undertaker! I've watched so many of your matches. Wow, I have to say, you are truly incredible! In the ring, you're like a superhero who can't be beat! So many of my friends are huge fans of yours."
This wasn't just empty praise. Zane really meant it. The Undertaker was one of the biggest stars in the world.
The 6'10" giant let out a big, hearty laugh. "Thank you for the compliment, Mr. Blackwood!"
Zane then spotted another future star. "Brock Lesnar?! No way!" Zane said, his voice full of energy. "You're so young, but you've already won all those championships? That is just amazing! I believe your future is going to be incredibly bright!"
(In the future, Brock would also become an action movie star.)
Then, Zane saw the man he was really looking for.
"Dwayne Johnson?" Zane said, walking over with a warm, friendly smile. "Oh, but you like to be called Dwayne, right?"
Dwayne looked surprised and pleased that Zane knew that.
"I know you!" Zane said, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "I saw you in the 1991 National College Football Championship. Wow! You helped your school win the whole thing!"
"Even though you just joined the WWE family this year," Zane continued, "I know you are going to be a huge success here."
ZANE looked at Dwayne, who was smiling from ear to ear, and couldn't help but laugh.
"Of course," Zane added, putting a friendly hand on his shoulder, "if you're ever willing to try acting in Hollywood in the future... I can help you. I really believe I have the power to do that!"
