Zane's decision to write the new TV scripts himself was a very smart one.
The American TV market was a huge business, just as big as the Hollywood movie market. There were thousands of TV shows, but only a few were really great, classic hits that people loved.
Zane knew it was very hard to find amazing new scripts. Why? Because the giant TV companies, like ABC and NBC, had teams of people who snatched up all the best ideas right away.
Zane's new, smaller company just couldn't fight against them for the best scripts. Why would a top writer sell their amazing new show to him when they could go to a giant, famous network?
Zane knew they wouldn't. So, he had to do it himself.
"I've watched so many American TV shows in my old life," he thought. "But it's hard to write them all down from memory. TV shows are long. They have dozens of episodes and sometimes more than ten seasons. I can't remember every single line."
He smiled. "But, luckily, I'm not just a writer! I'm the boss!"
"I have dozens of great, professional writers working for me," he planned. "I just need to give them the main idea—the story summary, the characters, and what happens in the main plot. Then, I can let them fill in all the fun details, like the jokes and the action. And, of course, I'll check it all at the end to make sure it's perfect!"
While Zane was busy writing, his TV shows were exploding!
The second season of "America's Got Talent" was a giant hit. It was all anyone was talking about. Families all over America would watch it together and then argue at work or school the next day about which amazing person would win.
And the new show, "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire," was also a huge, surprise hit.
The show's slogan, "Knowledge changes fate; wisdom creates wealth!" was super popular. It was a show where anyone could win, and people loved it.
All the big advertisers and companies saw how popular the show was, and they all wanted to put their ads on it.
The Coca-Cola company called. "We want to be the main sponsor! We'll pay whatever it costs!" Then, the Pepsi company called. "We're not short on money! Whatever Coke offers, we will pay more!" Even General Motors (the car company) called. "Ms. Donna, we're old friends! You can't leave us out!"
In just a few days, Zane's TV boss, Donna, had signed advertising contracts with 17 big companies for a total of $58 million!
But Zane was smart. He remembered that in his old life, the company that made "Millionaire" had made a big mistake. They showed it too much—like 3 to 5 times every single week, all year long. People got tired of it, and the show was canceled in just three years.
Zane wouldn't "fish the pond dry" and use up all the magic.
His plan: "Millionaire" would only be on TV in "seasons." It would be on for 3 months, and then it would take a break. This was a much better way to broadcast. It would keep the audience from getting bored and make them love the show for a much, much longer time.
That $58 million in ads was just for one season! They would get to do it all over again for the second season later in the year!
When the media heard the news, they went crazy. The other TV companies were furious, embarrassed, and so jealous.
The British company (ITV) that had sold Zane the rights for the show really regretted setting the price so low!
But Zane didn't pay attention to all that noise. He just stayed in his office, working hard.
On June 15th, after half a month, he was finally finished.
He took the scripts for 4 new, amazing TV shows and drove to the Golden Dawn Television Group headquarters.
The scripts were:
The Big Bang Theory
2 Broke Girls
The Walking Dead
Prison Break
His assistant, Alexander, met him at the door. "Boss, all the writers are here, just as you asked. The 50 writers from Wald Pictures and the 35 writers from the TV networks are all waiting for you in Conference Room 1."
Zane nodded, a proud, happy smile on his face. He was holding the future of his TV empire right in his hands.
