"What did you say?" Marcela wiped away her tears, horror flickering across her face. "Explain this to me." She rose from her chair and moved toward the young alpha. "Wasn't the pack being attacked?"
Alpha Wallace appeared puzzled by her assumption. "Yes, but we managed to contain the attack within an hour. It appears the remaining Valerium warriors launched one final, desperate assault on this pack. A suicide mission, really, since they were vastly outnumbered and had no real chance."
Alpha Wallace proceeded to detail the events.
The surviving Valerium warriors had struck without warning. Roughly three to four hundred of them focused their attack on a single point—the south gate.
The south gate sat closest to their location, which explained why they could hear the chaos so clearly.
