Sally's POV
As the afternoon sun dips lower, the stress from our morning meeting begins to loosen its grip on my shoulders. The knowledge that someone among us might be betraying the pack still gnaws at me, but spending time with Warren by the pond helps push those dark thoughts aside.
The water sparkles under the gentle breeze as Warren kneels at the muddy bank, jabbing at the soft earth with a fallen branch. His voice bubbles with excitement as he explains his elaborate plans for constructing what he calls a frog mansion.
"Mummy, look at this!" He points toward a cluster of translucent spheres floating near the reeds. "There's baby frog eggs! They're like tiny clear marbles with black dots inside!"
I crouch beside him, watching the light dance across the water's surface. "Those will become tadpoles before long."
His face scrunches into a worried frown. "But where did their parents go? Did they leave them all alone?"
