Sally's POV
Standing outside Warren's bedroom door, I pause to steel myself. There's no telling which version of my sister waits beyond this threshold.
She could be trembling in terror, seething with rage, or masking her pain behind false composure.
"Juliette, may I enter?" I whisper against the wooden barrier.
"Come in," her immediate response brings relief flooding through me.
I ease the door open with my shoulder.
Juliette sits rigidly on the edge of Warren's mattress. She's freshly bathed and dressed in unfamiliar clothing that must have come from the healer's lodge. Something about her appearance strikes me as simultaneously childlike and unnaturally mature. When our eyes lock, hers appear exhausted yet strangely serene.
"Hello there," I offer a tender smile while closing the door behind me. "I thought you might want some coffee."
