Exactly one week after dropping the bombshell that he and Haley Slater were married, and then doing the equivalent of running for the hills and avoiding communication with his family Deacon Roth had decided that it was time to stop running and face the music.
Which was why he was currently at the Roth manor, walking the gardens with his mother by his side. Their steps were slow and measured, the two of them moving around without any destination in mind. Any other time Deacon would have called the walk relaxing but it was anything but. His mother's continued silence no matter what Deacon did was unnerving.
Finally deciding to just come out and say it, he stopped walking and turned to his mother who was a few paces behind him.
