Chapter 41 - Chapter 41: Not Just a Nightmare!

The sky was clear and bright, the sunlight was warm, and there was not a single cloud in the vast expanse.

The sky was blue like it had been washed clean. A few thin clouds were lazily floating, and the sunlight poured down without reservation, coating the entire training field in a layer of warm color.

At the center of the practice field, several wooden posts that were heavily worn stood quietly, their surfaces covered with scratches from kunai and shuriken.

"Where… am I?" Obito drowsily opened his eyes. Looking at this familiar environment, his mind was somewhat blurred for a moment.

Suddenly, his head hurt, and a familiar voice came from behind him.

"Idiot Obito, you can't even use shuriken properly!"

Obito turned around and saw Rin angrily withdrawing her hand.

It had been her knocking on his head just now.

"Rin…" Obito could not stop tears from falling. A familiar great joy rose once again in his heart.

The originally chaotic thoughts in his mind were all knocked away by Rin's punch. His entire mind was filled only with Rin's figure, leaving no room for anything else.

"Hey, Obito, can I discuss something with you?" Rin rubbed the hem of her clothes with both hands, revealing a rare shy expression.

"Ah!" Obito was instantly dazzled. Without another word, he jumped up and patted his chest, shouting, "Rin, you don't need to discuss anything. Whatever you want, I'm willing to give you all of it!"

"Anything?" Rin immediately became pleasantly surprised. Her eyes blinked rapidly, and just looking at her made Obito feel like his heart was going to explode from joy.

Obito nodded repeatedly without hesitation.

"Anything!"

"Then thank you so much, Obito." Rin bowed seriously to express her gratitude.

"Ah, Rin, why are you being polite with me! What's mine is yours…"

Obito scratched his head with a silly grin, his eyes squinting from how wide he was smiling.

However, before he finished speaking, he saw Rin—her face flushed—walk up to him and reach her hand toward his face.

"…" Obito's joy made his mind go completely blank. His mouth hung open, and he completely forgot where he was.

But he only felt a surge of pain, his vision went black, and the blue sky and white clouds, as well as the green mountains and waters, all disappeared from his sight, leaving only darkness.

Yet Rin's delighted voice still came from beside his ear.

"Ah, Kakashi, look, this Sharingan really suits you!"

"If the original one is gone, then it is gone. Just transplant this one onto you again. Don't be sad anymore!"

What made him feel as if he had fallen into an ice cave was that Kakashi's familiar voice also came over.

"Rin, why are you taking Obito's things again?"

"Ah, Obito himself already said it. His things are my things. I'm taking my own things—what's wrong with that?"

"Then what about Obito?"

"Ah, why do you care so much? Who told him to be such a bootlicker?"

In an instant, Obito only felt the sky spinning and the earth turning. It was not just heartache—his whole being felt like it was splitting apart.

"No…" Obito let out a miserable howl and woke up from the nightmare, sitting on the bed and gasping heavily.

He raised his hand and waved it in front of his eyes. Only after clearly seeing the lines in his palm did he confirm that it had just been a nightmare.

Because during the day he had learned from Uchiha Yasuo that the eye he had gifted to Kakashi had been destroyed, was that why he had this nightmare at night?

It was not impossible—what one thought of in the day could appear in dreams at night.

But he also touched his chest and felt that the White Zetsu cells had just repaired the crack on it, and he could not help but grow suspicious in his heart.

Just now, he had literally had his "heart crack"!

If it were not for something as exaggerated as the White Zetsu cells existing, he would probably have died on the spot.

Who gets scared to death from having a nightmare?

Was it really just daytime thoughts turning into dreams at night, or was someone secretly harming him?

Obito widened his eyes. His Mangekyō Sharingan spun rapidly, and he repeatedly checked his own body many times, but no matter how he checked, he did not find any traces of genjutsu.

"Not genjutsu?"

Obito furrowed his brows tightly and carefully thought. If someone had harmed him, who would it be?

The first target was definitely that damned Uchiha Yasuo. His grudge with Obito was the greatest, and he repaid every slight, and he had a pair of Mangekyō Sharingan. Both motive and ability made sense.

But his Mangekyō abilities were healing and prophecy, which many people had personally verified.

So even though that guy was hateful, he could already be ruled out.

Next on the list of candidates was Uchiha Itachi.

Although he and Itachi had cooperated to complete the Uchiha clan's extermination, now he already knew that behind this matter there was also Konohagakure's involvement, and Itachi had not truly betrayed Konohagakure.

Now that the Akatsuki Organization was going to take action against Konohagakure, if Itachi wanted to secretly eliminate powerful enemies for the sake of Konohagakure, that also made sense.

But it was the same problem—Itachi's Mangekyō abilities were Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi, and those were also what he had personally verified.

In that case, Itachi's suspicion could also be ruled out.

In the current Shinobi World, the Mangekyō were only the three of them. Could it be that this was not a Mangekyō ability?

But this kind of ability was so strange and powerful—it absolutely would not be an ordinary genjutsu. At the very least, it would have to be some kind of secret technique or forbidden technique.

This was not something ordinary people had the qualifications to possess—at the very least, it would have to be a ninja from a major village.

The people on the Kirigakure side were a bunch of fools who did not even know of his existence and therefore could not possibly target him.

Most likely, it was still an enemy on Konohagakure's side!

Could it be Danzō?

No one knew how many secret techniques and forbidden techniques were inside Root. It might well be some harmful thing created by that guy of the Second Hokage, Senju Tobirama, when he had nothing better to do.

And harming people through nightmares with some hidden method also matched extremely well with Danzō's way of doing things.

The famously known "Darkness of the Shinobi World" was no joke!

It had a widely recognized reputation!

So many people had died without even knowing that Danzō's shadow was behind it.

If Itachi had leaked his information to Konohagakure, Danzō secretly striking at him was completely within reason.

On one hand, it could eliminate a powerful enemy. On the other, it could avoid shaming the former "Village Hero—Obito" reputation.

It was a matter of killing two birds with one stone—even if Sarutobi Hiruzen knew, he would not oppose it.

The more Obito thought about it, the more he felt it must have been Danzō's doing.

But how had he placed a curse on Obito?

He had not had any physical contact with anyone recently, had he?

Had someone from Root infiltrated?

Or was there originally a Root spy in Amegakure?

Or was it a bloodline curse performed through the flesh and blood genes he had left behind in Konohagakure?

Obito tossed and turned on the bed, and the more he thought, the more annoyed he became.

He would have to go and steal the "Book of Seals" later and look to see whether there was a method to undo this forbidden technique in it; otherwise, having nightmares every night was truly too painful.

Especially… the content of that nightmare!

Now, the moment Obito closed his eyes, he could not help recalling that nightmare in his mind.

That feeling was simply too real!

It felt as if it had actually happened!

Although his rational mind told him that it was a nightmare, that it was fake, and that such a thing would not happen in reality—

His subconscious still could not help imagining wildly!

"Rin, Kakashi…"

Obito murmured softly, his entire being sinking into a state of dejection.

Not far from him, Uchiha Yasuo once again gently wiped away the blood tear beneath his right eye and silently smiled.

He opened his right hand, and a Sharingan appeared in his palm—it was precisely that Mangekyō that had already been "crushed."

It had only been a small misdirection.

Using genjutsu in battle might not be enough to fool Kakashi and the others, but using it to trick people was truly using a great talent for a trivial purpose.

He brought his two fingers together like a blade, cut across his own chest, creating an opening, and lightly implanted the Mangekyō inside.

Now then, Obito—enjoy it well!

With your eye serving as the medium, this eye technique would not be merely a nightmare anymore!

The Mangekyō Sharingan's eye techniques were unreasonable by nature, just like Shisui's "Kotoamatsukami"—they brainwashed people, and those who were brainwashed would not feel anything unusual and would only regard it as their own true thoughts.

Uchiha Yasuo's right-eye eye technique was the same.

It did not take effect immediately but clung to the target like a curse.

And this curse only activated when a person slept. Once awake, it would hide itself completely without a trace.

As long as the person did not notice when they were struck and did not clear out the Mangekyō eye power in time, this curse would gradually sink deeper and deeper, becoming stronger and stronger—

Unending until death!
